Although we are still a D- team , our overall numbers are slowly improving.  A win over LaS  will push us up to D. But that is a big if.. Can we beat them? Yes ,,,but we will have to play better than we did against St. Joe   LaS is a B- team about the same as G Mason,  a team we swept .

With LaS it's all about the offense and a pretty good one it is. Johnson is their star ...leads in pts, rebs, FG% and blks. Price and Powell are their other scorers. Those 3 along with Stukes( leads in stls) all shoot over 80% from the FT line. If we get into a FT battle with them ...we lose.

Now you know how I have been ragging about how bad we are on offense (5th worst in nation) ...LaS is the same on defense...terrible. Which bring us to the 2 questions that will decide the game.

1 Can one of the worst offenses beat one of the worst defense?

2. If LaS doesn't bother us will we be able to shoot?

If the answer to these 2 questions is yes...then we win

Bottomline....If we play like we did against St.J ..we lose...if we play like we did against GM we win.  No Billiken line of 40/35/65...we need to exceed that slash. As LaS is not strong on forcing TOs we have to avoid the careless ones.

Mantra...Shoot well but don't shoot your foot.

Go Bills

Checked Team Rankings, they have LaSalle as a favorite to win by only 1 star out  of 5, certainly this is not a vote of confidence for LaSalle. To make some simple comparisons, St. Joseph was favored to win by 2 stars out of five, and George Mason (2nd game) was favored to win by 3 stars out of five. We won against both St. Joseph and George Mason (2nd game) despite the projections being more favorable to their winning over us than they are for the coming game against LaSalle.

I keep on saying this, numbers and probabilities are not facts carved in stone. If they were we would have a hell of a lot less wins this year than what we already have. This does not mean we will win the coming game against LaSalle with any certainty, it means that losing this game is not a fact, not yet anyways. As Wiz says, this will be a game between a very good offense with no defense against a better (by no means the best) defense with a poor offense. In terms of physics an irresistible object vs an immovable target, or armor against penetration rounds. Who wins? It will be interesting to see  how Ford preps the team for this game.

What a great win....

First let me answer the 2 questions from the original post....

1. Can one of the worst offenses beat one of the worst defenses?

2. If LaS doesn't bother us will we be able to shoot?

I had said if the answer to these questions was yes then we would win.

The answer  was yes  to both and we won.

Actual offensively it wasn't a great game....Here is what the typical Bills slash looks like...40/ 35.3 / 65.6...here is what we had tonight....38.6 / 34.3 / 94.4....so not a great night even by Bills standards....But I love that we beat LaS at the charity stripe They were 9th in the nation going into the game....but that was just worth an extra 5 pts. It was our defense that really shut them down ...particularly their 3pt shots. The LaS line looked like this...28.6 / 15.4 / 76.  LaS was 6 three pt shots made below their average....18pts ....throw in the 5 extra FTs and you make the spread.

Tip o' the cap tonight to.......

Agbeko and Crawford on Senior night....Mike with dunk to finish and Reggie with his first ever 3pt att and made...shooting 100% ...way to close things out at the Fetz....Btw  a very nice ceremony post game.

Roby on his career high 23 pts.

Hines on his career high tie of 8 rebounds.

Stay tuned for what I think will be a surprise in tomorrow's spread thread.

Wiz, I think we both said the same thing prior to this game, but not quite. You said the numbers and probabilities indicated a probable win for LaSalle but that we could win this game if our defense stopped their offense (which it did last night) and our offense was good (which it was not although it was adequate). I said SLU could win this game and that the numbers and probabilities were not written in stone.

We were both right of course, but we have different points of view. One point to be made, this was not a low spread win, it was won by a 15 point spread in favor of SLU against all probabilities and predictions of a spread favoring LaSalle. We won a very nice and healthy victory last night.  Another point is that the main contributors to our victory last night were Roby and Hines, not Crawford and Agbeko. And finally Neufeld, of all people, managed to play last night and to look like he was playing not just standing there. This is a major advance for this kid who has played very little this year. All of this could not have been predicted by prior scores and probabilities. We won nicely last night. We have 11 wins going into the final game of the regular season, and we have what appears to be an 11th seed in the A10 tournament. The 11th seed means that we are not ending the season at the rock bottom of A10  as was widely expected. Like Ford said last night during the Senior celebration, this season was a successful season for the Bills, we accomplished a lot and we are ready for next year. Amen to that.

Neufeld was just standing there. I was at the game. He is bad and needs to go.

Roby and Hines massacred that LaSalle team. You'd better defend against Roby. He is one of the better 3pt shooters ive seen Leave him open.. automatic 3 points.

Giannininini was a joke. Hurt his own teams performance. Looked like he belonged in an institute.

Super nice post game speeches by Crawford and Agbeko.

These guys have flipped it extraordinarily in conference play.. getting 6 wins with this roster is special. Ford kept his promise that we wouldnt finish in the same spot as last year.
