Billikens_Fanatic
The UNews today reported that Grand Forest apartments scheduled to be demolished this summer to make way for the new arena will remain standing as student housing next year. Has anyone else heard anything about the timeline of the new arena? Was it mentioned at the Billikens Club meeting? Or should we just assume that fund raising is taking a little while longer than originally hoped.
davidnark
Unless you are a "high roller" donor you will never know. Candor has never been the hallmark of the athletic administration. I guess mystery maintains interest.
Major Majerus
I guess we'd need to see the footprint of the stadium on the plat - I'm sure there are aerial photos out there with the stadium overlaying the existing structures. We need a spy at the builder or the architect.
tseugnekillib
Heard April 13th that timeline has not changed. Like alot of things, I'll believe it when I'm sitting in the new arena looking down at a basketball court. The most important thing is ....... it's going to happen! Big City Bob
www.slu.edu/arena has recently added "location views" to its "sneak peek". There is an "aerial view" which is an aerial photo that includes the arena footprint. It appears that the westernmost part of the building lines up roughly with the left field fence of the base- ball diamond. Although the tennis courts will have to be removed before start of construction of the building, it does not appear that the apartments will be immediately affected. BTW, the "front view" indicates that the obligatory fountain will be situated at the southeast corner of the arena.
BLIKNS
What would you think about statues of Billiken Hall of Famers,Easy Ed and Eddie Hickey in front of the new Arena?
Major Majerus
That would be idolatry - worship of false gods expressly forbidden by the 6 commandments and 4 suggestions. Only the true god should be in front of the arena - the Billiken, god of things as they ought to be.
Billiken Law
Before we see any former players in statue form I'd bet on a statue of Biondi either in front of even in the lobby... Speaking of statues anyone ever heard this one regarding the 2 statues in front of West Pine Gym (the Billiken and "Doug."). The joke on campus is that "Doug" is what Biondi wants to look like, the Billiken is what he looks like!
alameda bob
I have seen the two statues. Why is he called Doug? That was my physique when I went to school there, but I did not pose for anyone.
