moytoy12
Don't know if anyone posted this bit, but i thought i would. Sorry if it's duplicative. From Andy Katz's blog: "Saint Louis hired Dallas-headhunter Bob Beaudine to help SLU athletic director Cheryl Levick with her job search. OK, this makes absolutely no sense. If she was firing Brad Soderberg this late into April she must have had someone in mind, right? Seriously, it took her this long to realize that she wanted someone new? Recruiting has already started and the coaching carousel has spun past the Billikens. At least one source told ESPN.com that former Virginia coach Pete Gillen isn't interested in the position, although he was mentioned as a possibility. Kent State coach Jim Christian has outside support but it's unclear how much he has inside the SLU campus. Remember, if this is going to be a coach who excites the fan base the Billikens might have missed their chance. Soderberg was a bit vanilla and had his faults but the timing of this just makes no sense for SLU and for Soderberg, who now will struggle to land another head coaching gig this season. One high profile conference commissioner said it best last month when he told ESPN.com that any athletic director that uses a search committee shouldn't be an AD, saying that hiring a coach is what an AD is supposed to do." Bay Area Billiken
Whether or not SLU has hired a search firm, it seems pretty clear that the #1 choice of Father Biondi and SLU is Rick Majerus, who is an outstanding candidate. If SLU can seal the deal soon with Majerus, the existence of a search firm will be moot. I know the recent Majerus track record, especially re the USC job. But Majerus is a Midwest guy. He has that Jesuit education and experience in his background. He is a natural for the SLU job. And IMO, Father Biondi has been taking far too many negative hits from the media and others re this SLU coaching situation. It seems that SLU gave Brad Soderberg a chance, perhaps his last chance, whether he knew it or not, with the Spring 2007 recruiting period. Soderberg again appeared to be whiffing at the plate, striking out again, this on the heels of other recruiting failures. The ship was taking on water, and might have been about to sink. Do you just sit there and let the ship go down? No, you take action, and that is exactly what Father Biondi did. If SLU can get a Rick Majerus, then SLU will be dancing in the not too distant future. That is my prediction. Seal the deal. Bring Majerus to SLU.
GOSLU68
outside consultants gather facts, state the market conditions, help both sides bring the deal together; negotiate, it is a furhter tool for letting the other side know that any point is negotiable. We had the committee hire last time-who takes credit for getting us a Big Ten assistant from a final 4 team who actually had play calling experience; these were great credentials and we saved a little money; okay now it is time to step up and play big casino-oops don't bet on college games we don't want any refs making sure both sides have 9 fouls per half and keeping the scores low. cheeseman
Katz must not think much of MN since they use this same firm to get Tubby Smith.
