hoops
Jay Spoonhour would be the ideal coach to bring in... - Great resume - Success: 42-4; NJC Coach of the Year; NJCAA Championship; Int. Head Coach-UNLV - He knows how to recruit for SLU, which as we all know is not easy - He has the recruiting connections - He would have great alumni support - Young and upcoming coach with ties to the community

hoops
Hardly. He has a pretty impressive track record. Check out this link: http://www.goutsa.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPS...0&Q_SEASON=2006
DeSmetBilliken
Let me get this straight. You're suggesting SLU go after a guy who is currently an assistant coach at the University of Texas-San Antonio?
StLouBlue
It was posted on this board that he was in the running for the UMKC job just a few weeks ago and I remember hearing he was interviewing for the SEMO job last off season. He didn't get either of those so I would be shocked if SLU hired him. I think he can be a good coach, but he is certainly not proven enough to take over at SLU. hoops
I think the fact that he was a finalist for both of those jobs speaks to the fact that he is being taken seriously.
jimbofive
Those jobs are small ball, who cares deals... I want somebody that will get SLU on ESPN. Anything other than that and we're not really going to accomplish anything w/ this firing. This guy seems nice but he's too small time. You couldn't really be serious about SEMO and UMKC as bball schools, could you?
hoops
>You couldn't really be serious about SEMO and UMKC as bball >schools, could you? You can't be serious about the arrogance to think that SLU is above them.
jimbofive
It's fact. I'm not picking on anyone. Those are nobodies on the basketball scene.
hoops
>It's fact. I'm not picking on anyone. Those are nobodies >on the basketball scene. Exactly. So is SLU. What makes you think that SLU is superior? Their conference (HA)? Their success in the last 10 years (HA)?
jimbofive
I didn't even know those schools were D-1... so what does that say??? I'm not trying to start an argument here, and there's no argument to be had. SLU is top 100, those schools are not close. That's all that needs to be said. We're looking to pick up the likes of a top 50 coach so we can get into that proverbial top 50 that Biondi moistens his towels to every night. hoops
Outside of St Louis, I don't think very many would recognize SLU as D-1 either. What makes SLU such an attractive job that everyone thinks there will be a line of BIG NAME coaches beating down the door?
jimbofive
We don't think that, we're saying that damn well better be what we get for such a sudden move by the administration. http://kenpom.com/rpi.php

You would think that with such an erratic move. But realistically, the SLU job doesn't have the teeth to get a Big Name coach.
