-pesky name changes - - a shame that a school with a major in sports business can't find an intern to keep up with the list
-
-I'm not sure why the ADept removed the all time series section from the record book as it was very handy as without it I can't easily see the last time we won at SVU but let's make it tomorrow
-
-might as well add a few more to get to an even two dozen
-
-so far today you are not bringing results

You are right, at 3-1 we need help. 4-0 puts us in, as that means we beat both Loyola and Dayton. We have the tiebreaker over St. Joe, with our VCU win and Dayton would have 7 losses with our W over them. Beating Loyola pulls them even with us, but the VCU win breaks the tiebreaker.
As you said, St. Joe has cupcakes in their last 4. Dayton has both @ SLU and @ VCU, so they have as tough road as we do. Loyola has to go to UMass (on what probably is Senior Day) as well as Chaifetz, so they aren't a lock for top 4 by any means. What would make matters confusing is if Dayton beats VCU. Right now VCU has L's against St Bonnie and the Billikens. Our win over the Rams right now is huge.
Yes, if St Joe and Loyola go 4-0, we are out of the double bye with 7 losses. We are not yet clear of the pillow fight, so a win tonight would be very helpful in that regards.
Dayton has a W over St. Joe, so if they are tied, St. Joe would be knocked down a spot. There will be two way ties and quite possibly three way ties. Last year VCU and UMass tied for 4th, UMass go the double bye, but lost to VCU.
-to clarify the above, SVU plays at Rhodey on Wed, home against Richmond on Sat, home against us on Tues then at VCU on March 7

Yes. If they don't want to spend extra money they won't sign him. But he also has a limited number of games that he can play under his 2 way, I think he is only eligible to play 14 more games. So he will have to be signed by the time he reaches that limit if they want to keep playing him.
-thanks

Of all the program's issues, this is one of the easiest to fix.
-is it also the least important to wins and losses?
-don't take my post as a pro-Gus sentiment, his mistakes and snide remarks must be acceptable to CMay or a change would have been made

Hearing that barring injury that Goodwin will be on a standard deal by the end of the season.
The March 1st deadline is key as that is the last day a player can be released by an NBA team but remain playoff eligible if signs with another team. Up until the final day of the season a player can be signed to a regular roster deal and be eligible for the playoffs so Goodwin may have to wait awhile on his deal.
Buyout candidates for the lakers are Cam Reddish and Markief Morris with Cam Reddish being the more obvious one. The Lakers still might want to take a look and see what bigs are available after the March 1st deadline but since they are over the tax apron they can only sign a player who was making less than 12.8 million dollars. The market for bigs is poor, and with that salary restriction it gets only worse.
Goodwin has another couple good outings Reddish could very well be released on March 1st. Then it is just a matter of time before Goodwin is signed to a regular deal.
-so the Lakers don't need to rush signing JGood to a contract? I wish they would but they are running the team

Because occasionally you will run into a Robbie Avila who is an impact player as a freshman.
-are the chances of this sort of success for SLU closer to getting 21 in a hand of blackjack, hitting in roulette or winning the lottery? (I couldn't think of a scenario between roulette and the lottery)
-I think with Pitino (others?) saying they won't recruit high school the chances of success for us are higher than they were, say.... 8 years ago but not sure how high
-would frosh Robbie get second half minutes on this year's team?

I've never liked the timeout-we-get-to-move-the-throwin-to-the-front-court rule. I don't like gimmicky sh!t and rules that are different because the game is almost over.

No NBA superstar has had this amount of leverage before to get his kid on a roster while he's still a player. This may be the last time we see it. Usually by the time an NBA player is 40 years old he's a bench player, not putting up 24, 8 and 9.
You know you're the most visible star in the league when, just by being related to you, your kid's jersey sales break the rookie record.-wow

40 minute mark: Playing five guys, never want to only play five guys, but the fatigue issue is overrated. Particularly in the second half. At ISU, he went with his 5. Second half is 20 minutes, then 4 media TO, then the first 30 sec in the second half becomes a full timeout. Coach always keep full TO, for 2 more. That's 7 Full TO. Then 3 30 second time outs plus all stoppages. In the 20 minute game, there is a lot of rest. First half is different, with 4 media TO plus usually two 30's.
-this is how CJS is going to run it, the way he said it made me think this is a core belief and not just a function of an inexperienced bench

My view of this season is that we don't have a coaching problem. We have an injury problem and an NIL problem.
We were not able to sign Kent from ISU, or any other stretch 4. Which is really needed to make the 5 out system work well. Kent and Julian Larry went to Texas for the money. Right now, Larry is 6th in minutes and Kent is 8th at Texas. The bigger bucks this year have not helped their stock for basketball after college. It's hard to get players to look past bigger bucks.
The loss Casey took away a big who might be able to shoot FT, and maybe an open 3.... but maybe not. The loss of Thames has been a killer. He is big enough to play the 4, though less than ideal size. He has to be respected at the 3 point line and his athleticism makes him a dangerous cutter. My fear is that he is done. Dotzler and LHJ sould be coming off the bench.
Now we have to play freshman off the bench who sometimes do well, but more often, make turnovers and stupid fouls, especially against decent teams with tough marchups for the freshmen.
For this season, we have to play our upperclassmen, hope they can play well enough to win and go on a run. We need our freshman to turn the corner.
If we were bottom third of A10, I would say play the freshmen, but we are close. Too close to throw in the towel.
-all good points, I will listen closely tomorrow to hear CJS inform us on how they are trying/coaching the guys on the bench to be better contributors for the remainder of this season because what we are doing isn't working

New interest:
Ben Akoro - SF, 6-7, 185 - O'Fallon, IL (O'Fallon) - AAU: Team Herro (Nike EYBL) - Twitter: @ben_akoro
Offers: None.Interest: Saint Louis, DePaul, Texas, Arizona State, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, North Dakota State, Kansas City, Austin Peay, Montana State, Nicholls State, Incarnate Word.
Latest News: Akoro said SLU head coach Josh Schertz talks to his dad a lot. (2/15/25)
Scouting Report: Akoro is a versatile two way player who scores on three levels. He's strong getting to the rim and effective operating out of the mid-range. He's a capable passer and rebounder with size, length, and ball handling skills. He can defend any position. He transferred from Principia to O'Fallon prior to his junior year. His parents played college basketball at Pittsburg State and his older sister played at Virginia Tech and SEMO.
-doesn't seem to be a skill CJS embraces, perhaps room to grow

If that happens, Ford had 2 nba quality players on the same team and couldn't make the tournament.
Another way to look at it:
Ford had SLU's all time leaders in points (Gibson), assists (Collins), blocks (French), and steals (Goodwin) all on the same team for TWO straight years and couldn't make the tourney...
-that hurts

-discussing the ref, to me the much bigger problem was also at the end of the game, ref in his 5 second count and the Mason player throws the ball to the ref, I contend the ref should have moved out of the way and let the ball go where it was thrown, instead the ref catches the ball, stops the count and throws the ball back to the Mason player
-the key to this is that the ref was already in his count
-but on to us, we opened the first half in a daze and playing poorly, we started the second half playing poorly and I hoped we would start OT with some jump but that was not the case
-we let another one slip away

-from NBA Analysis.com
LA Lakers head coach JJ Redick was asked about Jordan Goodwin in his post-game press conference following the 132-113 victory.
Redick paid tribute to the Lakers’ development system, adding: “I think it’s been seamless for Jordan, and he knows what we’re trying to do. And frankly, he’s like kind of the kind of the prototypical guy that we want in one of those spots, because he plays hard, he crashes the offensive glass.
“He has a toughness about him. He has a team-first attitude, you know, I just think it speaks volumes to the type of person that he is, that he was prepared, and is willing to go to battle with these guys.
“There was a play in the first half. It was one on four on our offensive end, and he tipped out, created an offensive rebound. We got another, shot that it was one on three, he ended up getting the basketball and scored.
“Then he’s ripping his mask off and throwing it on the sideline twice. He’s a banshee, he’s a banshee, that’s why we like him.”
With the Lakers unit under construction following the surprise Luka Doncic trade, Goodwin has emerged as nice surprise at just the right time.

Top 4...
This week's race is projecting VCU, GM, SLU and Day as the top 4.

-it looks to me like movement and cutting on our offensive end has again stagnated, I would like to see that restored
-I think Killian is due to hit 2 or 3 three pointers in a game and this would be a good game for that to happen
-be the aggressor on both ends
-with these we win

Did you see the report that it's accurate only about 14%. Makes sense to me when you're sources are a highly censored pool of data.
I need that news to be publicized because tech stocks took a dive when they revelaed Commie Panda AI. That was a tough day for ABomb & Old Guy's new Hedge Fund.
Commie Panda AI probably thinks Anthony Grant is a good coach because he's the perennial pre-season champion. Problem is then he has to coach in games.
-without saying it are you telling us Red Panda is the halftime show tonight?
