So if Dotzler and Casey sign as predicted, that still leaves 4 more spots available.

I still hope we find a starting PG and starting 4 in the portal, and then two more HS kids would make sense with the last two spots.

So the starting lineup would look something like this...

    5 - Avila

    4 - Not yet signed

    3- Gibby

    2 - Swope

    1 - Not yet signed

     BENCH

1 - Casey (first big off the bench)

2 - Dotzler (first guard off the bench)

    3- Thames (wing)

    4 - Hughes

    * Then the last four spots with HS kids - hopefully one or two of them is good enough to crack the rotation and be a contributor. It's always good to have real competition for PT.

It's fun watching the roster take shape.

    Pikaar?

4th in the nation last season with 113 three pointers.

Played at Southern Indiana for two seasons before transferring to ISU.

Do we get 2 years of him or 1?  Not sure of being at the D2 (at the time he was there) changes the covid year rule etc..Or I guess as a junior he didn't play in the covid year unless he missed a season somewhere.

  3. Swope and Jimmer with Larry and Thames behind them is a winning collection of scoring 2/3 guards that should do well in the A10.   Avila and I guess Pikaar at the 4/5 with depth needing to come.

But where is the PG...this car needs a driver.   I wish Medley would have hung around. I know the thinking is now we can do better, hopefully that is true.

Either way this is a big get and Coach is off to a nice start.

Neither Zyree nor Walsh had any contact from Tate this past season. Tate leaving won't be the reason Zyree doesn't come here. Schertz has been recruiting both as I understand it.

Zyree had an offer from SLU per some websites. Was that from Ford?  And thats good if Josh is on them, you have that confirmed?

Our leading scorer this year, a Coach Tate recruit, is in the portal and is receiving high major interest.  C'mon now.  I know some people need to burn the Coach Ford era to the ground for closure but hiring  Coach Tate was probably the best decision of his tenure.

In any case, Coach Schertz has already had success recruiting the Midwest.  I have no doubt that he will bring in local players from time to time as he develops relationships in the area.

Indeed.   What does it take to bring parker back?  Money?  Or were there academic issues?

Sorry Tate’s role is irrelevant now. His strength was the local connection but we don’t get local incoming freshman anymore. Either the talent is dry or he has not been doing his job. Not sure what role he has with transfers or NIL.

Goodwin, Yuri, Hargrove and possibly Perkins never play here without Tate.  Not really bench players.

An absolute home run press conference.  Those dwelling on negative issues, take your L and sit this one out.  Let us Billiken fan's rejoice.  I believe Jimerson was in attendance today.

Frank and Bob had Chris May on the radio immediately after the press conference.  It will be posted on The Press Box soon.  Look it up.

Schertz is throwing out the first pitch tomorrow at the Cards game.  He apparently will spend a few minutes on the mound this afternoon to make sure, hopefully, he doesn't bounce it tomorrow.

I liked what Josh had to say. But man were the media questions laughable.  BenFred asking about "Joy". Stu asking about dress code. Some of the old timer season ticket  holders asked better questions than the PD media guys.

If Jimmer was there, get  him back

  8. I hope Rebecca stays.  She’s gonna get offers now.  What a game from courtside.  I talked to her after the game and told her that she did an amazing coaching job these past two postseasons.    We should’ve just given her the men’s job.  Made some history.

I have no doubt he did swallow his pride but I can assure you he did not do it voluntarily.  He saw the train was leaving the station and he could be on it or left behind.  If one thing about May is true - people in general, they will survive.  I am not sure we have really disagreed on much lately maybe some nuances but basically we have been on the same page on this matter.  I have tried to respond to this poster with logical and respectful comments.  I see nothing wrong with that and his response to me has been respectful.

Thanks Cheeseman.    I guess May got the womens hire right. Rebecca has been a revelation.

  10. I am not a hater of this likely new coach.  I’m just guarded about it.  I don’t trust Chris May’s decisions and I feel Schertzs style might not fit our league.  And I think an actual search instead of just having 1 candidate might have been a better path.    If he does well I will be among the first to praise him.

Clearly defense is secondary to him but this why you have assistant coaches.  You hire one who knows defense and can teach it.  We will see what kind of coach he is as we watch him fill out his staff.

Thats valid.   I am a defense first coach and I have an assistant who is almost a football style offensive coordinator.   I hope he does find that person for defense because I don't think they are on the Sycamore staff with him right now

All of the morons on Twitter calling this a lateral move make me want to bash my head against a wall. I can’t wait for next season.

I agree that is not a lateral move...thats silly.  I just have issues with the coaching style and philosophy.  Clearly an upgrade.

  13. Before anyone attacks me as not being a fan, I will be sitting court side at the women's game saturday so feel free to come visit. Ill wear a purple hat or something so you can find me.

We all know the A10 fancies itself as the little Big East. Its a rough and tumble grind it out league for the most part. Finesse offense teams that don't guard and can't win ugly don't do well in the A10.  Every loss Indiana State had they either shot horrible for the game or fell into a funk in a bad spot like tonight and the 2 drake losses.  Schertz showed no ability to get his team to gut it out in those scenarios and figure out how to win without shots falling.  And ok he hung 100 on Utah but gave up 90....  It just isn't a style I see working well.

And as mentioned above, if he does have any success he will just leave probably.   We need to find a legacy coach.

LOL .... And I suppose you are a big time coach or something.

I mean I do coach kids but that’s not the point.  You draw all over your board to just inbound and jack a 3?  Plus allow a 9-0 run to lose basically in a home game.   Defense is not a strong point with this coach.  Maybe he’s innovative on offense but he sure wasn’t in the most critical moment.
