2024 SLU Men's Basketball Head Coaching Search
TheChosenOne replied to thetorch's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Correct, I was not serious. I have updated the post to ensure that @thatskablamo is not given any ideas. -
May is probably hoping like heck there is no video of the altercation. Is anyone keeping a list of the Ford unhinged moments from this season? My favorite was in Myrtle Beach when he attacked a trash can and it was within feet of a handicapped fan, provided a great visual SLU can be proud of. Or when his son attacking folks on social media somehow got flipped to him being the victim which included coach Ford bating folks to say it to his face, that he isn’t hard to find. The flipping of the script on that one was impressive honestly though. Although it would appear he isn’t well equipped to deal with folks doing as much.

2024 SLU Men's Basketball Head Coaching Search

Or to have their sons create burner accounts on social media attacking fans or to challenge fans to fight them. -
Knowing the situation he is in, the fact he got close to that point this afternoon is rather incredible. Yo, after the next few weeks you walk away with $10+ million to not work unless you do something stupid, be cool my man. The Ford family has been fun, lets see what entertainment they provide us over the next few weeks.

I enjoyed the game, the guys gave it a heck of an effort. I am beyond caring about the result, so I was pleased to get an exciting game and watch Parker have another big performance (and again some nice complimentary efforts as well). And made all the better by Travis Ford apparently losing it after the game and challenging a fan to fight him. What an embarrassing crew the Ford family is proving to be. Once you get beyond the point of caring, watching your program burn to the ground is less angering than I imagined. Now we all know how Nero felt.
-
Boom! Way to go, Parker!
-
We seem to be limiting the open 3s at least for their better shooters. Some of the open ones have been from guys I think you welcome taking them. With the 3 point line somewhat taken away, they seem hesitant going to the rim. Maybe that is where missing their big hurts them?
-
As frustrating as this season has been, in our two games with Saint Joseph’s, I think I’d be even more mad being a fan of their program. Really odd how they just refuse to play to their strengths. Fun half, lets get the win and force the announcer to tell us more about how big a fan he is of Billy Lange!
-
I realize we are not scoring at the same pace, but we are moving the ball well and I like most of the shots we are taking. On the other end, I feel like we are forcing the right guys to try to make plays almost baiting them into to it. Like this white kid has no clue what his role is and yet we leave him open (which we should) and he can’t help himself. The wrong guys for them are taking the shots and not surprisingly they have gone cold. This is what I’ve seen the other times I’ve watched Saint Joseph’s, they have some kids who can fill it up, but then their role players do not play their roles at all. About to drop 50 on them this half, well done!
-
Not to be mean, but that white kid for Saint Joseph’s needs to be cut at halftime. Talk about having no clue what your role is.
-
We will see how the rest of the game goes, but our games with Saint Joseph’s have been damn entertaining.

Anytime you start to think about potential "solutions" you run into more and more questions, so I have no idea what the future of college athletics looks like. I also don't pretend to know all of the complexities beyond reading them and concluding there is no solution! I do think it appears that the first step could be the Big Ten and SEC football programs splitting off and doing their own thing outside of the NCAA for football. Again, I don't know what exactly that looks like or what additional conferences/programs would be part of that, but it seems like there is at least some movement there. And I do think fans of those programs won't overly care if that becomes more of a true minor league football league. Football in America is just different and once you layer on the tribal nature of college football fanbases, I don't think those programs that go that route would be any less popular.
-
I had heard women's golf programs are having trouble even filling their rosters and have to go International to do so. I think we have the answer for you and kind of brings those two thoughts together haha.
-
I was partially watching, but the guy doing the game on tv even said something along the lines of even UNC misses the tournament every once in awhile and then proceeded to say this is Ford’s only down year at SLU and that he has been really unlucky with injuries and such. Watching that game you would have assumed the Billikens and Fordham were battling for the top spot in the league based on the propaganda level commentary.
-
I guess we figured out Troy’s handle on here finally……
-
Fordham’s offense is rather bad, we have some life on offense now attacking the pressure better. Let’s get the win!
-
I like the slogan, rolls off of the tongue like Team Blue haha. But, that truly is our defense. It is somewhat funny watching teams play us, they seem confused by the option of shooting a wide open 3 or easy blow bys for a wide open shot in the paint.
-
And Fordham on pace to hang 80+ on us, it’s incredible to watch.
-
I don’t think that is accurate, crowds are materially lower this season than last season and last season was far from a high-water mark.
-
Yeah, maybe this is the game where giving up uncontested wide open 3s is a good defensive strategy.

Welcome To Billiken Nation, Travis Ford!

And when you read some of the posts from when it appears Ford was first rumored to be the choice (I had forgotten about the PR mess it became), this is exactly what some folks predicted. He would improve the talent, the talent would have some success, but underachieve, and then things would fall apart. Really crazy how prophetic some were and reading the take from the Oklahoma State fan is wild. I called him as mediocre as they come, the white Frank Haith, so I am not pretending I was one of those people as I never give a measured take. -

It is interesting how prophetic some of these posts ended up being (including an Oklahoma State fan spelling out what we would be getting). Yet, a year in folks decided to dunk on those individuals (hilarious to read at this point) with many acknowledging they were wrong and then here we are with those initial posts being spot on. Really interesting to read. Maybe we aren't the collection of morons I thought we were! -
Note: Billiken Coaches Show Debut 1/8/24

Anyone interested in going next week? -
Yeah, I don't understand him not getting any minutes. The defense is so bad from our guards that I refuse to believe he could make it any worse. When he did get some minutes in the SIU and Drake games it seemed like he showed the ability to be somewhat disruptive on defense, but I don't remember those games overly closely at this point. I circle back to my first comment though, the defense cannot get any worse on the perimeter.
