Recruit (1/7)

  1. I was 11 years old in '56 and already a fan(courtesy of my father) of the Bills when McCaffrey played. Pete was 6' 5"-with a nice ,midrange turnaround jumpshot from the side. He could jump and guarded the Big O better than anyone in the MVC. I saw all 3 games vs. Cincinnati played at Kiel during Pete's career. Robertson, I believe, scored 50 on us when he( OR) was a soph. - he was an instant star . McCaffrey however held him to 11pts for the first 34-35 minutes of very close game here in St.Louis but then fouled out. Oscar proceeded to score approx 13 pts in a row(many were FT's) and Cincy pulled away.RIP,Pete
  2. A very, very weak excuse. you either love/enjoy basketball or you don't. Perhaps it is too cold for them to wander outside in the elements-away from their video games.
  3. Eckerle is athletic-great leaper, fairly quick hands and feet, runs well-- Seems like a good athlete to me
  4. RM to Xavier? nonsense ! Not enough good Italian restaurants in Cincy
  5. After viewing the clip,I'm positive that incident took place on 4th street
  6. Since 1956, I believe. I was 11 years old. We had a radio on top of the refrigerator and during that 56-57 season, I would watch my dad get excited,agitated,worried- all while listening to "the Bills".Harry Caray did the play -by play(That's the truth!!)I've lived and died with them since. We didn't have a car;but when I turned 14 ,my parents would let me and a friend or two take the Cherokee bus down to the Kiel and back for games!!My favorite era was from 1956 'til Bennington left.(1965 ?) Joe Todd,Harold Alcorn,Jack Mimlitz, Bob Ferry, Pete McCaffrey(who always guarded Oscar Robertson and did it well),Cal Burnett, George Latinovitch, Tom Kieffer, Glen Mankowski -a real exciting time in SLU basketball. We, If memory serves correctly, were quite good usually-winning between 16 to 20 games in a .26 game schedule. The Bob Polk years are up there also. Good teams (the 71-72 team beat Memphis St. 70-56 the memphis team that went to the NCAA Finals that year)That SLU team was 19-7 and did'nt even get an NIT bid.which is when the NIT died as far as I was concerned-But I digress. Harry Rogers ,Carlos Martinez, 6-4center Bill Paradoski,Mark Frailey and Jesse Leonard are players I remember
