  1. Two excellent posts, Clock. Nailed it. Finally, an intelligent, knowledgeable, mature, experienced opinion... as opposed to the group of hissy-fit, panic-button-prone usual suspects on here; the rotation of which is about nine, ironically.
  2. Yes, he did. I am told Iowa, Michigan, and one other school. He had his reasons. Not all men on this earth take the goober obvious approach that you assume. I object to someone starting a thread "JC HOT SEAT", sure it is OK to criticize, wonder, second guess, but JC is not in that situation at all. If the team fails again this year then there is reason for concern, and if it does not turn around in '16-17 then well OK. But this thread title at this point is not justified at all, it is horsesh*t.
  3. Clock: Technically, I agree with most of your version. But I doubt espn would mention RM's health in that spot no matter what they knew. Was that article before or after RM bled openly on the court after being cut, then missed several games? Come on. And no way we can look at Crews signing of TL and RA as anything other than last minute Hail Marys. Risks. They do not count as his recruits. No way. His recruits commenced with last year's 6 freshmen. Yes, he might have purged one or two of the bad apples sooner, but we do not know the extent of the damage, the details, the timing, and in this day and age it is so difficult to "fire" someone. If he pushed a player or two out mid season it could cause some ugly publicity if the players made (false) counterclaims. I support Crews, I think he is solid, I understand he was offered 3 top notch Big 10 head coach jobs when he was at Evansville, he is as good as we will likely get. But sure, I worry about last year and even our poor showing in The Bahamas, and I wonder if he will turn things around this year (20 wins?) and the next (NCAA?) especially. We shall see.
  4. Exactly. And as he unfortunately worsened, top recruits were worried that Majerus would not last the 4 years should they sign on the dotted line. The result was, last year: no real senior or junior leadership, and according to one source the 6th youngest team in D-1. And, for the last time, Crews first true recruiting class was last year's 6 freshmen, period. You cannot recruit in full force as in interim coach and/or at the last 2 months of the spring for the fall semester "please commit to 4 years at SLU, we do not know if I will be the coach, though...".
  5. Buncha jackoffs here, the guy who started thread: especially. Sure constructive criticism is welcome but some of you are an absolute embarrassment. Majerus was a great coach, his illness and it's timing left the program with a severe gap in talent, recruits were reluctant to come to a team with that uncertainty Crews first recruiting class was last years freshmen, that is final. Last year things went badly, team chemistry was effected by some bad apples. Last year we had one of the very youngest teams in D-1, no upper class leadership. Last year a good 9 man rotation could not be established, most no one could sustain consistent productivity long enough to do so Six freshman from last year have the potential to be strong contributors, 3-4 of them especially Sure I question things, why TF didn't we blow out those 3 foo foo teams in The Bahamas, Ash, all of that... well we do not know the whole story, do we? Nagging injuries, discipline, maybe Coach wanted them to just have fun since the season is going to be so grueling. I trust him. You are a fool if you think we can do better than Crews. Majerus was great, but he came here magically, it was pure luck. For once we got a break. Give Crews a chance before throwing your hissy fits. .
  6. Yes, a dead tree only printed paper, from 29 years ago... that's a valid, direct comparison. Nothing has changed. There are probably 29 reasons why you are incorrect, and you as usual do not address the stated issue.
  7. This is not nearly as simple as you state, though it is predictable that you would think something like this is very simple. The fact of the matter is that, like most entities (cities, states, countries) that succumb to this radical ideology, the SL Post has failed miserably. Bernie is just another casualty.
  8. The SL Post = fail. And it is not something you can say was just because of the internet and 24/7 cable news. Capitalism: the marketplace did it's duty, The SL Post isn't economically viable, most of their good employees are long gone. If The St. Louis Post was not 100% committed to one extreme ideological viewpoint, good people, many more customers with jobs and money would still have it delivered or pay for it online. Bernie was colorful and interesting, but often controversial and even flawed, I didn't like his coverage of SLU hoops much of the time, but overall he was a good sports writer. A pity.
  9. Some of the 24/7 negative posters on here make me sick. Ripping Crews coaching after last year's performance in such an brutal, ugly manner, given all kinds of extenuating circumstances with an extremely young team, a few bad apples, etcetera, is inappropriate. Oh, and that helps recruiting a lot. Thanks. Sure you can say the recruits are smarter than to listen to those on this board. Are they? Ripping Crews saying he cannot recruit when in fact his only true recruiting year is represented by last year's 6 freshman, who were thrown into the fray with almost no help or leadership from upperclassmen. I think they will do well this year, 2 will emerge & step up big, 2 will improve significantly, and 2 will just improve a little. Constantly ripping players like Jolly, a freshman center, and making it very personal. Show some class. We even have a poster who is ripping our newest recruit, questioning the credibility of his stats, even citing his father's behavior. Damn ugly. Some fan. Blaming Crews for not closing Tatum. That means all of our coaches, ever, as you would say, "suck". We have never landed a true 5* much less a player like Tatum. Why? Superior schedule (NC, 'Cuse, Mich State, etcetera vs. Fordham, St. Bonny, etcetera), superior national TV coverage, HOF coach, Duke HOF alumni and NBA players across the land to be in touch with forever, and a strong chance to go to the Final 4, even win the whole shebang... what would be your sales pitch, Brian? The same silly men who do not like Crews think some hot shot up and comer assistant from Florida or Michigan St. or 'Cuse will beg to come here... will they? And if they do and do well, they will leave in 3 years to go to a power conference, won't they? SO the most important thing, still, by far, is for us to somehow get into the Big East. If we had, a kid like Tatum might have stayed. Crews is a good, solid coach. Let's see how they do this year.
  10. I agree, it makes sense, it is very likely at least an unspoken secondary consideration.
  11. I completely agree, it can have a powerful effect, IF they come up with the right approach. We are due for a good rebranding campaign that ties old tradition to a positive, dynamic future.
  12. I like the idea of making it stronger, fiercer. I am not expecting an Oregon caliber transformation, but I am eager and hopeful that the consulting firm and AD will move us forward, to a new big time level. We shall see.
  13. Title IX?If women want equality, since they say they are equal to men... why have separate men and women's athletic teams? Having separate women's teams is so so sexist. So let there be just one team for every sport. To boot, it would save lots of money, so tuition goes way down, and we have equality for all.
  14. The Billiken logo needs to be modernized, strengthened. The "Grinch" look doesn't do it. And the whole merchandise product line needs to contain a coordinated theme; lots of work to be done, I hope they are successful and we have a dynamic outcome.
  15. http://www.tfpstudentaction.org/saint-louis-university-de-smet-statue-protest.html?utm_source=petitions&utm_medium=ty-email&utm_campaign=SAE0315 June 1, 2015: To appease the liberals, Saint Louis University -- a Catholic institution -- recently ripped out a prominent statue of Fr. De Smet, which depicts his prayerful apostolate with the Indians. Fact #1: Fr. De Smet was a heroic Jesuit missionary who converted many Indians. The Indians loved him. He even served as Saint Louis University's first dean. Fact #2: But radical leftists called for the sculptor's removal because they absurdly claimed it stood for "white supremacy", "racism" and "colonialism." Fact #3: University president, Dr. Fred Pestello, basically threw Fr. De Smet and his own university's Catholic heritage under the bus by ordering the statue's removal. Tractors rolled in. And carted the statue (pictured above) away. That's how the dictatorship of "inclusion" and "tolerance" works these days. Sign your urgent protest today. Then share it. Forward it. Facebook it.
  16. Not sure what you mean other than to once again slime me, but I happen to know many experts in the healthcare field. There are several reasons for the opinion I presented, some of which I do not feel comfortable elaborating upon, though I have lobbed out one or two. So just decide if you want to hear my opinion or just move on, moytoyboy. SO? Yes, Tenet bought it around the same time as SLU, who is to say it is successful and they aren't trying to unload it, too? Maybe it has thrived, I don't know. FYI, IDN's are not easily comparable, very complex dynamics. Tenet buying into the St. Louis market was a huge question mark from the start, but perhaps the conditions, the competition, etcetera, was more favorable in Atlanta. You are comparing The Mayo Foundation to SLU Hospital? Or BJC? Please tell me everything, give me the details of your analysis.
  17. NME was a CA based chain of hospitals before the merger, yes.
  18. Typical of your balderdash. Well worded, misleading generalities. Yes they owned some medium/small urban hospitals back then. When Tenet bought SLU they mostly owned medium/small southern hospitals including NME in southern California as you saw when you looked it up in Wikipedia or whatever. Shortly after the transaction I dined with a Tenet VP who candidly expressed his concern that Tenet would attempt to build a robust IDN in St. Louis. It was a controversial risk to see if they could succeed with a university hospital and build a network and expand into a more northern urban environment and develop large IDN's. They are down to 80 hospitals nationally, now. Did they succeed?
  19. Selling to Tenet was not optimal for SLU Hospital, it's employees, or our community. Tenet is a credible for profit chain but it's expertise is in the rural hospital marketplace. They had inadequate experience to venture into a top 20 metropolitan environment. Bad move both ways. Well before the sale, nationally, most urban hospitals had organized into IDN's. SLU hospital could not stand alone. There were two good matches in town, SSM & Mercy. Either would have been a better option, by far. Being a key cog in a like minded integrated delivery network like SSM (or Mercy) all of those years would have been optimal had Biondi understood these healthcare dynamics. It is very good that the hospital is now with SSM, but the hospital was set back. Time to move forward.
  20. You think a few ward's minor growth in a city with a stagnant population that continues into other decline will result in better results for mid city / inner city hospitals? Oh.
  21. Yes SLU does a lot of trauma work. Think. RE: claims that the population is growing in St. Louis City, as Rodney would say, "Fantasyland"!!
