  1. This has been the conventional wisdom regarding Majerus, per the media and most of this board, and I think it's correct. RM isn't in this for a 7 year gig probably. Which is why I'm surprised there isn't A) more bitching about his less than sterling results and B)surprise that he overestimated the talent here, which he MASSIVELY did, since there is no way a calculating guy like RM just takes a job for complete rehaul when there is a sleeping giant 120 miles west, a resting supergiant in Champaign and a currently superior program in Carbondale right now. He is surrounded and it's gonna take a ton of time- if ever- to match these three progs. especially with Booker and Roundtree entering SIU soon..
  2. I have never been close to being on the RM bandwagon, though his pedigree is really good. I was just turned off by the way Soderberg was fired etc., etc. But the constant "I need better players" gig is one of the oddest approaches I've seen. Do you guys remember another modern coach doing as much insulting of current players as RM does? Also, it's weird to consider a guy like KL a guy you couldn't win with. I haven't followed the team closely at all this year, yet, but he always seemed to me like an A list teammate, player, and student of the game. Very very odd. Also, the idea of RM trying to get me to believe he has been within 100 miles of a campground is just a suspension of disbelief that I can't conjure up. Is there a restaurant in Milwaukee called Camping?????
  3. That is fantastic, one of the funniest posts I have read in along time....
  4. Man, judging from your post count, you are a knowledgeable fan, but when are you going to schedule that head CT scan?
  5. I was pretty amazed to see the quote in the Bits this AM. Very amazed actually. It will definitely get the radio talk-show circuit jump-started for the season. Personally, I loved and miss Brad. Not because I think he's a better coach, of course, but because he was good enough, got done wrong, and we wouldn't have to listen to the constant preaching about the virtuosity of RM, since such a thing simply doesn't exist in college hoops (perhaps with the exception of Bruce Weber). I don't want to start an argument obviously, because BS is a faded memory by this point, but this probably is being whispered in the Lisch household too, if I had to guess....
  6. My season Tickets: 112 C 9 and 10. To whoever, whomever, or whomsoever (I'm not sure of the proper Anglais) PM's me first. I'm sure demand will be through the roof.....
  7. Does your source ride his unicorn to work, or just walk beside it?
  8. >I guess no news is good news at this point We are rolling in good news right now. :7
  9. It's not that an all-you-can-eat banquet is impossible to reschedule, it's who wants to do that?
  10. Bad news also that he MAY require a head coach before signing. Unconfirmed.
  11. The only person seen in the basketball offices lately, according to DR. Julius Hunter, has been Ron Ekker, supposedly looking for "a beanbag chair and lava lamp that I left here a while ago." Weird.
  12. hearing Angres is in some trouble and may be out as HC fairly soon. Replacements?
  13. I don't think i've ever followed the program this closely for consecutive days, so you can't say he hasn't helped bring the excitement back to West Pine Mall!!!
  14. Says he still likes SLU and can't rule us out, even in this weird vacuum phase we're in. For Scout.com subscribers: http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&cfg=bb&nid=3108774
  15. This is gold for the Illini, on publicity and buzz alone. Obviously it is hugely doubtful he'll ever contribute directly on the court, but indirectly....yes.
  16. > >What was he being facetious about? You haven't explained >what the joke was to be. This is my interpretation of the joke: Rick is a longtime single male, overweight, who lives in a hotel. That is NOT the prototype for attracting a member of the opposite sex. It is, in fact, the prototype for a possible sociopath. So the fact that he has a girlfriend (beard) is funny, as it shatters the stereotypes (that are almost certainly true).
  17. It's really not that big a deal: I find nothing intrinsically wrong with C. Martin and it's no fault of his he's never been a head man at a top 50 program. But to go from Brad to C. Martin is less than a lateral move - it's a step dowwwnnnn, notwithstanding the redemptive qualities of his "lockdown" recruiting abilites (LOL). Again, nothing to criticize him personally for. RM is a different story.
  18. You are right, to an extent. The truth is, thought, is that I think Majerus is an overrated slug. He's very good - he just doesn't walk on water- unless it's laden with lard, probably. Also, his sluggosity is showing itself in these "negotiations." Typical RM. I won't criticize any Lowery, Stallings, or Martin types. But I do think hiring C. Martin would be a huge joke. Just me
  19. I'm in too, even though I'm pretty laissez-faire when it comes to Ab. I wouldn't have a problem if it was illegal, though it does have a certain unsavory vibe when our country mirrors hellholes like Saudi, Iran, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.
  20. With me, it was an absolutely different story with Brad. First of all, Brad was grateful to have the job and we all know, despite the obviously false conventional wisdom, that he absolutely worked his butt off for SLU every day, every hour. For that I was and am grateful. Second, Brad never had a weird cult of personality led by Frank C and the hordes. In fact, Brad was weirdly, constantly, poorly regarded by the media mavens on the radio i.e. Slats and BM. Why, I'll never exactly know. Third, and again, I think it's weird to "upgrade" to RM by giving him the farm and in the same breath criticize Brad as being mediocre when in fact he was working with the now-legendary limited resources of SLU. I am firmly in Brad's camp, not that it's worth a deck chair on a certain sinking English cruiseliner....
  21. I'm kidding. I just can't help jab Majerus every chance I get. Even if he becomes OUR coach. Even though I know it's not nice. Can the board forgive me?
  22. I don't know, who does? But I think RM would flat out be a bad hire as he is evidently minimally committed to anything but his own entire satisfaction, he is a public health risk, will be here for 2 years max, will leave behind no lasting legacy and will bankrupt the department if all his money fantasies are met. I'll eat crow if i'm wrong. Oh, and how is paying PORTER MOSER a huge assistant salary any better than Walker, Grunk, or Thorpe? Answer me that.
  23. I'm not a Catholic but I am a keen observer. You are kidding, right Cheeseman? I mean, if you want to be a freethinker, join the Ethical Society or the Raelians. If you want to be a Catholic, practice Catholicism. On a basketball note, RM ain't coming.
