If you don't learn from your mistakes, you're just going to keep repeating them. 19 point lead at half, pathetic. This kind of performance makes you wonder. Completely embarassing. I can't believe some people wanted to play this team. They dismantled us earlier in the year, and theyre doing the exact same thing again.

Another differentiating factor MVC vs A10

>If I had chosen to attend a Jesuit school (wild horses >couldn't have dragged me), I would have picked Creighton >over St. Louis. Yeah...Omaha is a great joint...much better than St Louis...or Des Moines...give me abreak. You make good points about the listings. For the most part, the MVC schools just aren't on the national level of SLU. They're more regional joints. Good work going 5-13 in conference too. Get lost, and take "Doctor" Tom with you, that loser. -
>What other sons of great NBA players are trying to make it >in college ball? Where are they going to school? It would >be interesting to compile a list and watch how these kids >perform. Jordan right now has two sons playing HS ball. Marcus, the better one, is a freshman. Jeff is a junior. I think Marcus is in the 6-3 range, and Jeff is around 6-1. Damn Mike shoulda married a tall one. They are both down on SLU campus every summer for that Nike Jamboree thing. I haven't heard lately, but last I had heard, Jeff was a midmajor type. Marcus might be a bigtime player though. But how bigtime are you really when your dad is MJ? Jeff is currently trying to lead his team, Loyola Academy, down state to the IHSA finals next weekend. Maybe we should try to recruit him, get a celeb fan, hell maybe MJ would like St Louis so much he'd try to get an NBA team here. I see no negatives in it.

Interesting Conjecture in IU's Search...

>This CBS writer even throws in Rick Pitino...I suppose IU >would be a step up from Louisville. > >http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9290794 Oh man, I'd love to see Isiah. Everything he has touched has turned to crap after his playing days. The Raptors, CBA, Pacers, Knicks, and it will continue. And he comes prepackaged with a sexual harassment lawsuit! Great pick! It would be a trainwreck night after night. -
>team in the MVC. I dont think any team could have stopped >Ian. Obviously you don't watch much MVC action. WSU, BU, and UNI all have very good low post games.

A10 Coaches not happy about ranking

> Sorry but there are not 6 teams that deserve to dance, nor >or there 5, not even 4, or 3 ... I don't even see how they >have more than 1 team in the top 50. If the selection >committee takes a real close look at the MVC ... they will >see their rpi formula is flawed and the MVC is in trouble. >The selection committee's goal should be to put the 34 best >at large teams in the tourney. Not the 34 best rpi teams, >especially when it is clear the new rpi formula is seriously >flawed > Well, you seem to be this boards version of Digger Phelps. If only 2 or 3 MVC teams get in, the mid major schools might as well stop trying. It is not fair to develop a system, originally developed to benefit the bcs-type schools, and then say it doesn't apply because it didn't put enough big name schools in. It is not like we are talking about teams with 15 wins getting in. These teams have 20 wins. WSU has 23, SIU has 22, UNI has 21, Bradley and SMS have 20. They all have 11+ wins in conference. The Valley should get a minimum of 4 teams. Dickie V, Lunardi, and several others are saying 5. It would set a bad precedent if they get screwed. Like it or not, we are in a conference similar to the MVC, not similar to the BCS. -
They mention in the article she is still there. What they don't say is that she is still there waiting to be seen, in the stretcher, doing those same ridiculous moves.

A10 Coaches not happy about ranking

>Some SLU fans may say they don't care or even be happy for >them but this could cause some significant problems for SLU >in the future if the A-10 doesn't step it up. The next >Ahearn won't be lost because we weren't smart enough to take >him but rather because he wanted to go to the better >conference. Its one thing to lose Shaw because we were >out-recruited early or Faulkner because we don't have his >major but if all things being equal, players start >preffering the Valley programs then we are in BIG trouble. That is a very good point. If the MVC gets 5 in, you have to figure theyll win a few games. SIU has made a pretty solid name for itself by making 5 straight NCAAs and getting deep in a few. I think what I fear more though is some of these MVC players start going to the pros. To many kids who, as bad as this sounds, have no chance of graduating/doing anything else with their lives, going to the pros is going to be a major factor. If these schools start pumping out NBA players, watch out. Factor in the NBA's 19 year old age limit, and maybe a guy like Shaun Livingston stays at home at Bradley for a year, shows he can star on that team, makes a tourney run, maybe sticks around for more than a year to try and win, gasp, an NCAA title. Obviously that is an extreme case, but not too far off. I can see the Valley keeping this up, especially if coaches like Altman, Lowery, Turgeon, Les, etc. stay around. All have strong ties to those programs. -

>It's all in scheduling, the MVC has figured out that if all >teams end the OOC with between 9 or 10 wins the their league >RPI will be high, that is the reason they look so good. The >A-10 has not figured it out yet, all teams should schedule >their OOC games so they will have at least 9 or 10 wins, >then we will have a high RPI. In that case, the A10 should have been a top conference. The absolute 100% without a doubt key to the RPI is not scheduling these buy games. GW had a slate FULL of them. 10 gimmes and 2 decent games. Theyre 26-1 and not even in the top 20 of the RPI. St Joes, however, is 15-12 and still in the top 50. Martelli says 'oh well we just didn't win thsoe 50-50 games' Well no ######. The best quote was this though, pretty ironic really... Uh "coach of the year" you won 3 games against top 50 teams. 2 of those were St Joes, who is barely top 50. 1 was a Maryland team that is not going to make the NCAA tournament. Quality wins in conference are better than no quality wins at all. Have fun with your #4 seed. -
>Just remember Vashon lost to my high school, Peoria Notre >Dame. I think Tuna needs to be canned. Ill second that. PND > Vashon. Vashon is still 0forpeoria. Secondly, if you put the crowd from the Dayton game into the new on campus arena, about 500 people are going to be standing outside. The atmosphere would have been deafening. If I had to guess, we'll probably wind up in nationally in the 40-50 range in attendance this year. Not too bad for a team coming off a 9 win season. Thirdly, i really don't care if bernie is on the bandwagon, I've never been a huge fan. I think a lot of you over emphasize the post's effect on things. I'd rather have the local TV guys behind us, as well as some national pub on ESPN, sportsline.com, etc. It's not as Bernie goes, so goes the program. Who cares what some yahoo says on his show? From teh sounds of it, the guy isn't the most classy guy. Who cares! How about winning 3 next weekend!
-
>I didn't agree with the way that Bernie said that SLU got >all the call against them. SLU's #15 should have fouled out >before overtime. He went over everyone’s back and almost >cost us the game. Stop crying about the officiating and >admit that Dayton just executed down the stretch and SLU >didn't. The better team won the game. > > > >Sore >Loosers >United It isn't over the back if you are just taller and jump higher. You actually have to go over the back. Dayton was hot all night, shooting 50% from the field, and what seemed like 343% from 3. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile. I just hope we meet in the tournament...
-
>We own you fools > >Sore >Loosers >United Ahh yes. I am feeling pretty loose this evening. I imagine you were one of those geezers up in 119. I am really surprised you didn't have a stroke at some point during the game. Wilma and Dorthy were on the edge of their diapers.

> >I think AD deserves a standing O. I know he will get it from >me. I hope everyone else joins in. AD has always left it all >on the floor and obviously worked hard on his shot this >offseason. > Anyone sitting during AD introduction should be thrown out. Of course, I often wonder if people know its okay to stand before the last 30 seconds of the game?

Lisch on 1380 right now...starting off talking about SLU's ncaa chance, rpi, etc. Lisch says they aren't looking forward to the tournament, just taking it 1 game at a time. Generic talk, lots of cliche being used by Lisch. Nothing really exciting. These hosts are about as exciting as watching paint dry. Why is it that St Louis sports radio guy are either boring as hell, or they don't talk about sports(the morning guys on 590)?
-
>I'd like to know how he meant that right? Like right they >really are a one bid league. Or a sarcastic right like who >are you kidding they'll get more than one bid???? Seems from the tone of the article that it was a sarcastic, "Right" as in theyll get more than 1. Because that 2nd will be the Saint Louis University Basketball Billikens coming in as a #11 or #12. Actually, he didnt say that, just my personal feelings.

>Drejaj is crap, he might score if you leave him absolutely >wide open. He's slow, doesnt handle the ball well, has a >ton of turnovers. His defense isnt even great every game. >He has no athleticism. He has not had a good career. Never >came close to scoring double figures, and for a guy who >doesnt score that much where are the assists. For a guy >with no real tools, the least he could do is be a top free >throw shooter, but he's not even that. He was a second >thought player who qualified late, and he gets way too much >credit for showing emotion while not really doing a whole >lot. Several 0 and 2 ponit games. Even SLU wouldnt sign him >now if he were coming out of high school. There are much >better players on every D2 team in this state. I think i'd get further arguing with a wall. Not everyone on a team is a scorer. This team has 3 better scorers, statistically, than Drejaj. When you only average 55-60 points per game as a team, not many players will score in double figures. He also is 2nd on the team in assists, not bad for not playing PG. He is also 4th on the team in rebounds. If you wanna talk stats, you lose. Drejaj is constantly on the opposition's top guard. For a coach who emphasizes defense, thats a pretty high honor. No one here will argue that AD is going to continue onto the NBA. Nor will anyone say he is a superstar. Drejaj has contributed more than the average player over his 4 years. If he had been 100% for the GW game, thatd be our W. I think we may get a 2nd chance with that in the tourney though. In conclusion, the only crap is your opinion. But you're entitled to that opinion nonetheless.
-
>That is what I am talking about. VTIME can post. Unlike >most of you pin heads. > >Drejaj is average at best. Good roll player. No one to >build a program around. He won't be missed. No one is saying Drejaj is a consensus all american, or even all conference. He has had a good career at SLU. If you want to talk about reality, here's some. There are very few teams in the nation that can have a team full of high school all americans. The ROLE players (they play a role, they're not edible) are often the most important pieces of the puzzle. The majority of players are role players. It's no insult to be a role player. Time will tell if he will be missed or not.

>We got our arena.. > >We got the Home and Homes back with SIU and SMS > >What else do we want, this is the week to ask. Renewing the series with Bradley. An NCAA bid/winning the conf tourney Luke Meyer and Justin Johnson swapping bodies.
-
>Our current seniors are crap and dont >deserve a trip to the NCAA. At least Drejaj has shown he >can hit a big shot in the NIT. We might even get a chance to >knock on MU in the NIT. Next year is time to look to NCAA's >not this year. I hope the Bills make the NCAA's and pull of >some upsets, but I'm not holding my breath. Seniors? Senior. Drejaj is the only senior on the team. Crap? I think he has proven his worth to this team. Take the Temple game for example. Over 50% shooting. 15 points. The intangibles that don't show up on a box score or stat sheet when they actually print them in the PD. The leadership of being the only senior on the team. The Iowa NIT game. I think Drejaj has done an outstanding job in his 4 years. He will also be capping off a superb career with another postseason appearance.

> >GW will get beat in the tournament-- near-guarantee. They >just are not that good. Sorry, GW fans, but sometimes the >truth hurts. > >A10 will have 2 teams in the NCAA's--because GW will get an >at-large. I think the mission of the entire conference >should be to beat GW in the tournament. We may be the ones >to do it, but if we do not, someone else will. > >That is my prediction and I almost stand by it! I'll stand behind that. GW has played a very very weak schedule. I guess next year Brad should schedule 1 top 25 team on the road and a bunch of buy games and we could be top 25! Conference tourney time is a totally different animal.
-
>Because Usually we have less time to sell NIT tickets, so >the Family Arena is a better NIT bet anyway, then there will >seem like there will be a crowd there...5000-7000 at Savvis >is pretty empty... The Family Arena is a pain in the ass, but we've had a good NIT expeirence there. Also, take into account that spring break is the week of the first round NIT games.
-
Had we beat one of UNC, Gonzaga, GW, or Iowa then yes. The strength of schedule was great, but we are still 1-5 against the RPI top 50 (SIU) . Also, the 3-3 record against the 100-200 teams isn't too hot. Being 15-9 at this point with a win over Gonzaga or GW, would put us firmly on the bubble. And finally, Xavier taking a dump did not help matters. At the time we first beat them, they were around the 50's. Had they continued hot, they'd still be around there giving us 3 top 50 wins.

> >I'd say CL was brought in to hit a home run and she only got >a double! How about a standup triple? I like the 10,000 number a lot better. The atmosphere will be even better. At first it will be like playing in a high school gym compared to Savvis, and even that is better than West Pine. The intensity level of a 10,000 seat arena will be much better. The Savvis and Dome are still around if there is a bigtime game. It will certainly increase the season ticket base amongst students and others. Having the hot ticket in town isn't a bad thing. If groundbreaking is June, when is it ready? 18 months? 1 more year after this in Savvis? 2 more?
