  1. How many fouls did Ian pick up? I saw that he only had 15 mins...was it for foul trouble or shooting trouble?
  2. A good high school or club player does not necessarily turn into a good D-1 player...of two championship teams at my high school (Benet Academy in Illinois) only 2 played D-1 ball (Matt Soldato, currently at Butler and Luke Rojo, formerly at DePaul...one other club player, John Stephens, just finished his senior season at Notre Dame). D-1 players, especially at a top level, possess a field vision and natural ability that is absolutely astounding. A low proportion of players in any sport will ever make the college ranks, let alone a school with a program whose national name is that of SLU.
  3. let's all remember the timing of Vedad's departure...two or three weeks before the 2004 season...a complete blindside move that came well after recruiting was finished. When he left, the focus of the scoring shifted to Will John, who was probably not ready for the physical pounding that he took in that role... As for Will, he also surprised the team by leaving last spring...Ward's intent to leave after last season was apparent while the team was still playing in the fall, but Will's departure came as a shock to the AD, again putting a kink in the plans... I personally find it hard to fault a guy who has lost his two top scorers before graduation, especially when they leave late in (or after) the recruiting cycle...
  4. All of this goalkeeper talk...don't overlook that Sack told us after the game "I spent all morning at my job finding out which way their guys went when they took PKs"...he knew where they were all going before they stepped up and was even disappointed that he didn't get to see #10 because that guy had gone the same way four times...that sounds like a player who wants it to me...
  5. one thing that I noticed is that we did seem to lose players on the perimeter once in a while...it looked like some of our guys got lost after doubling or trapping and their man stepped up and dropped a long shot...this happened about 6 or 7 times, and if UMSL can do this... I think Brad alluded to the defense not being up to his standard is his post-game (slubillikens.com article)...
  6. wow guys, go easy...Doug Mc was asked to put up a small announcement with the basic ideas of Billiken Madness, a few days ahead of when it was planned to go up...when we finish finalizing everything, then expect to see something more substantial...until then, know that its something to go on.
  7. Luke was at the soccer game tonight on crutches and in a cast...he has a stress fracture in one of his toes and is out for two weeks...apparently he's been nagged by foot pain for a while now; hopefully this will fix it.
  8. just thought you guys would like to see the type of people that we're going up against this season: http://www.flyernews.com/article.php?secti...sue=7&artnum=04
  9. We've already talked to Doug Mac at SID and Declan O'Neil in Marketing to make sure that we promote Madness during the game
  10. Thanks for offering on the sponsorship...we have a meeting with the SGA finance committee to try and wrangle money out of their hands on Monday night...our position will be more definitive after that meeting...but right now, we've budgeted for everything we need. The ball is in SGA's court on this one...we've been able to spread out expenses pretty well, and the athletic department has promised to pick up things like doughnuts and pizza for us (the doughnuts in the morning for our Blue Crew campers and pizza is planned before the event...on the order of a few hundred dollars' worth...) If SGA appropriates enough to cover our needs, we'll be pretty well set on everything, from entertainment to some giveaways...we're planning on things like signed basketballs from both teams (and maybe Billiken legends if we can track some down!!!) and gift certificates (right now, we *heart* Joe Boccardi)...these giveaways are where we're still trying to put things together...but we're most assuredly open to ideas... We very much appreciate your support, and we hope to see you all out there!!! Matt
  11. all, thanks for your support of our event! We're asking for a huge financial outlay from SGA and the Athletic department, and everyone has been really supportive (and willing to spend their money) in the interest of having Billiken Madness go off without a hitch...come along and wear your lucky socks; we'll have giveaways, inflatable attractions (think obstacle course, for all of our kids and kids-at-heart) and FOOD! We hope to see everyone there, Matt Auxier, Blue Crew VP, Finance
  12. >Also, does anyone know what is up with Calum Angus? He did >play at all Sat. and therefore he must be hurt as he is the >anchor of that defense. Calum Angus tweaked his MCL in training on Friday 9/23 and appears to be day-to-day...Grazier is working his way back, but it hasn't been decided if he'll play again this year, or ever, at SLU...Patterson had a quad problem, and that has limited his conditioning and training time...Wileman tweaked his foot...Donigan wouldn't say if that was the same injury or not. The team is banged up, but Donigan is pretty pissed...I remember seeing Grazier benched during the 04 season; he responded pretty well...Expect Donigan to start going deep into his bench until he can find someone who wants to play... As for players leaving early...Tim Ward apparently never intended to play college ball for more than a year, no matter where he went. Donigan was very upset about that and people in the program feel like Ward's lack of honesty wasted one of our roster spots...he would never have been recruited in if that was known. Nobody thought Will John was ready to leave early, but he did...Grazier and Johnny DiRaimondo may graduate soon, as they piled up college credits at Bradenton...this could be a very interesting recruiting year...
