  1. Zac was here over the weekend for his official visit and when he got home the head coach from Georgia met him in his living room and sealed the deal. Georgia wasn't even interested in him until September. So that tells me that he was their backup plan. I already know there are at least three point guards that Georgia is recruiting who are better than him right now.
  2. This was on Scouthoops.com about Jared. Jared Swopshire, SF – New to the IMG roster, this is one heckuva high-major talent. Easily one of the elite players here and a candidate for best long term 2008 prospect in attendance, Swopshire served notice that he’s a player. He’s kind of a unique blend of Evan Burns and Austin Daye. His jumper smoothly connects from deep and he shoots the ball at the apex of his leap. He’s a long bodied kid who put up big time numbers in the Anderson-Johnson match up and while on paper he was the under card in the contest, he was center stage!
  3. If you saw him play so much why would you say he is only 6'3"?
  4. We currently have ten juniors with division one offers. So it will be interesting to see what happens when this all shakes out and players start making decisions about where they want to play.
  5. I do talk to the coaches in all of those programs on a continual basis. I like good people and those are three quality coaches in D1 basketball. I have been honored with the privilege of getting to know those coaches on a personal level.
  6. >Billikenmetz, Brad does not have anywhere in his office to >cry after losing a recruit. I suggest you give the guy a >chance, you will not find a harder working coach. Be >patient, he has the ball rolling and it just needs to build >some more momentum before we should expect SLU to bring in >blue chippers. Give the man a chance and I promise you this >will be a good year to be a Billiken basketball fan. I disagree, you will find a harder working coach and lots of them, just look down the road at Mizzou and the other way at Carbondale. But Brad does work hard very hard but there are others who work harder than him.
  7. NO! Bobby Frasor will be Tywon Lawson's backup unless something drastic happens. Actually UNC has a couple of four stars and a three star player to go with their three 5 star players. So they are the ones who become practice fodder...lol.
  8. The InsideTulsaSports.com staff recently spoke with the AAU coach of one of these 2008 recruiting targets to gain some insight into his abilities and recruitment. Scott Suggs is a 6-foot-5 and 175-pound shooting guard from Washington (MO) High School. Suggs played AAU ball this past summer for the St. Louis Eagles, and according to Eagles 16-and-under Coach Dale Turner, Suggs was first spotted by Tulsa coaches after the Peach Jam in South Carolina. "Coach Wojcik and his staff first saw Scott at the Peach Jam, and they called me after we returned home," stated Turner, a former standout guard for Northern Iowa in the late eighties and early nineties. "They said Scott fits into what they're looking for in that class, that is a kid with good size and skills. I've talked to (Assistant) Coach (David) Cason a couple of times recently and he said they would be following Scott this year." "Scott's about 6-foot-5 or 6-foot-6 and a very skilled player," added Turner. "But he's more of a basketball player, than a position player. He's a shooting guard, but he can do a whole lot of things. He handles it well. He can flat out shoot it from the outside and is also a scorer. He rebounds -- he can just do it all." "Scott just played a little bit with the 16-and-under squad because he moved up and played with the 17 year-olds the rest of the summer. So I didn't really get to coach him a lot this past year." Suggs is garnering a lot of attention after averaging 19 points and five rebounds as a sophomore at Washington High School and after performing well over the summer. He's currently rated as the No. 15 shooting guard and No. 65 overall player by Rivals.com in the 2008 class, and is receiving attention from schools across the country. "I'm not aware of all the schools that have offered Scott," explained Turner. "But I know Washington's (Head) Coach (Lorenzo) Romar has offered, as has St. Louis University. I know Tulsa likes him and wants to watch him this year." In an earlier interview with Rivals.com, Suggs stated he held offers from Kansas, Missouri, Washington and St. Louis, with interest from Illinois, Iowa and Southern Illinois. "As it is with a number of our (Eagles) players, our kids are going to be recruited by some of the big schools, but they also realize that they can maybe go to a mid-major type school and perform there and have the same or maybe better success," Turner concluded. "That's one of the things he's going to think about during his recruitment."
  9. What does Matthew 5:15 have to do with the Billikens?
  10. I coached Jason Ford in Jr. High and a friend of mine coached Clayborne in Jr. High...lol.
  11. Paul is a super athletic guard who is a scorer. He has a few offers on the table currently. His AAU team had a super group of guards with Chris Stokes, Zach Plackemeir, and Eckerle. Anyone of them could put up twenty at any given time. I think SLU is only looking for a point guard so with him not being a point guard I don't see the Billikens looking at him but he will definitely get looks from some people. I just hope he doesn't end up being one of those kids who comes back in college and lights the Bills up for thirty...well OK I do as long as the Bills get the W!
  12. I didn't know who you were to until Earl said that was Roy as you were walking up the sidewalk...lol. I will definitely introduce myself on the 10th.
  13. Yes. He is from Redlands CC and he is just a beast. This weekend he is visiting Wisconsin.
  14. Shimmy said the girl turned down a Florida school, not necessarily Florida. Of course my question is what is the advantage to having the games on cable or dish over free television? St. Louis continues to be one of the smallest area for cable subscribers. All in all it was a good time to meet people and see what is on the horizon for SLU athletics. One more thing Shakara is taking her official visit to SLU either this weekend or next weekend. She is going to Tennessee first, then SLU, then Mizzou and somewhere else. Those three schools are definitely in that order.
  15. I am not related to any of the players. Even though I am somewhat part Greek...lol.
  16. November 29 and if things hold true to form the team will arrive on the 28.
  17. Thank you it helped immensely. I will come tonight and see if this is something that I could join without compromising myself in any other areas. I looking forward to having a good time.
  18. Where are all of the Chicago ALumni? If there was some way to rally them together I have no doubt that we could get Brad and AT and some other SLU people to come up there and meet and greet and talk to the "Chicago Billiken Club." Like the sound of that...lol. We need Chicago players like Jake Pullen, Josh Crittle, and others but it would be a lot easier if we had a contigent of Billiken supporters who wore their Billiken Blue to their high school games and what not. The coaching staff at SLU believes that winning at SLU starts in the midwest and Chicago is definitely a place SLU needs to build a pipeline.
  19. What is the Billiken Club and what does it take to become a member and what is the value of being a memeber?
  20. A player cannot take an official visit until their Senior year of high school. The Suggs and Brandenburg families both took unofficial visits within the last couple of weeks. They still have their five official visits and I don't think either player has a clue who those five schools will end up being, I would be surprised if they used an official visit on SLU since they can go there anytime they want to. I am sure these two will take lots of unofficial visits to lots of campuses so that doesn't mean there is a leader or that someone is not an option. It just means they are taking recruiting seriously and looking at all angles and the pros and cons of most of the schools that are interested in them. So that is all a very positive thing, but they have a long road ahead of them.
  21. Shimmy is not married. She just added on her mom's name or something like that.
  22. I would say academics played a role in that they picked IMG over Mount Zion or Boys to Men Academy. You are trying to make the academics part of this equal across the board. Sure FZW has good academics but so does IMG. The big difference is IMG has better tools and personnell to equip Jared to be a better basketball player as well. Finally what makes you think he is paying 30 thousand to go to school. Do good basketball players pay the full tuition to go to CBC, Whitfield, Cardinal Ritter or any other private school.
