Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. Great job by the students. My only complaint is the free throw defense was not as strong as the past several games.
  2. Please no more transfers to Edwardsville. My taxes are already high enough without having to support more athletes.
  3. Why would Dale have to leave SLSG, Kalish is able to do both SIUE and SLSG?
  4. If SLU was going to interview Kalish they should look at Dale Schilly from St. Louis Scott Gallagher. Dale is an outstanding youth coach, is very well connected with the National Youth Program and has great contacts with all of the major youth clubs. Put an energetic young assistant with Dale and the program would be back in a very short time. Thoughts.
  5. Kalish would be a good hire but if he could not double dip like he is allowed to at SIUE (Gallagher and SIUE) he could not afford the pay cut. I would assume that SLU must consider this a full time position which apparently is not the case at SIUE.
  6. Therefore it would be logical that if he recruits a top 20 class they should be in the top twenty every year and be able to make it past the first round of the NCAA's. How much time does he need?
  7. Is it time for the Donigan era to end? SLU should go out and pay what is necessary to get the Akron coach. It is all about recruiting and this guy is one of the best recruiters.
  8. If SLU doesn't make the tournament or goes one and out will it be time to find a new coach?
  9. The real issue with SLU soccer is Donnigan's lack of recruiting effort. Donnigan does not have strong relationships with the top three clubs in the area. If he worked closely with the coaches of these clubs he would be in on these players very early (freshman year) and would be more succesful in recruitng the top local talent. The coaches of the top club teams know who the players are very early on and if Donnigan would keep in contact (phone call every few weeks with the coaching directors) he would know where the talent is. Identifying players should be real easy in soccer because of the club programs (like them or not).
  10. This is exactly the type of player the SLU should take a chance on. They need all the altheletes they can get. If he was good enough for Marquette then he definately could help us. The problem is Brad is too structured in his coaching approach and does not /will not give the freedom necessary for the athletes to succeed. JJ is a prime example of a player that Brad can not develop. The team was so bad in 04-05 that JJ should have been given 20+ minutes a game to develop. My guess is we will see the best of JJ in the last five games of his senior year. Througout the sesaon there are several teams that we just can not match up with because we do not have the athletes to play with them. We need two-three athletes 6'6"+ that can match the athletic ability of some of our opponents. They do not need to be all-stars or scorers but need to be able to match up with the other teams better athletes for 10 - 15 minute stretches during a game. His coaching philosphy has been to muck it up against the better athletic teams (Temple, Memphis ...) and try to win by playing an ugly low scoring games. If it doesn't work it is a blow up i.e. 2006 conference tournament. I think the fans of SLU have let Brad set the bar too low on the recruiting expectations. How many of the current 11 scholarship players were recruited during the normal fall signing period? Polk, Liddell, Lisch, Meyer and McGuire -- 45% I am tired of watching SLU just compete and not win. All you have to do is look at SIUC for their recent run of success with three different coaches.
  11. The key is to take chances and be on recruits early. How many offers were made to this years potential class last spring? Bradley was sucessful in landing its big man because they were on him before anyone else. If Brad keeps waiting until he is sure on a recruit the wins will be few and far between. He is an excellent game coach but a poor recruiter. He needs to look at himself and his staff to make the appropriate changes.
