  1. according to rivals.com he committed to seaton hall, i'll see if I can hear something next weekend..
  2. back in 1993 when the arena was the site for the midwest regional with Indiana, Kansas, Louisville and Cal. Berkley the Indiana Hoosiers stayed out at the Maryville Center Marriott. In addition to practicing at the arena, the Hoosiers also practiced Maryville. During the women's final four a few years ago all the teams stayed downtown, not sure what the NCAA's plan is hotel wise for the teams but you would think that SLU/WASHU/UMSL would be used for closed practices.
  3. I look at Mizzou major revenue sports over the last couple of years and laugh at how mediocre and from a PR standpoint down right pathetic. I'm not trying too make any excuses for SLU, it is my opinion that the univeristy administration could do a heck of a lot more financially to compete at a much higher level, the new arena is a major step in the right direction. I do believe that the building will be built regardless if we hit the $35 million mark or not. I think Fr. Biondi, God willing, will pull the trigger so we can break ground sooner than later. As the STATES NUMBER 1 PUBLIC institution with a very good alumni base, all the resources they need, great facilities, a wonderful campus, student support, you name Mizzou has it, BUT a total joke when it comes to major revenue sports. When you have coaches making a million plus dollars each and all they can produce is sub .500 records, NIT's, Independence bowls, and being taken to the woodshed by KU on your home field there needs to be accountablity. I not trashing Mizzou, I live in this state, I have pride that my "STATE" school does well. Do I think that SLU's 9-21 was bad, damn right. I think that Brad's coaching at times was less than ideal, but that happens during bad seasons. Better not happen next season! I think SLU fans, especially those who live in the State have every right to laugh at the MIGHTY MIZZOU, the tigers get everything they need and then some, but do nothing with it!
  4. when I as was at my Parents this weekend I took a look at the Universitas and the part on the Arena, imho, was very impressive. it is very good to see what dollar amount you need to donate if you want to put your/families/etc.. names on something. if you just want to spend $500 on a brick or $2 million for the Arena Pillars, or heck est. $10 million to put your name on the place. when you break it down, if it is built, and I believe it will be, this is the building to get Billiken Basketball consistently above the water line and let these young men compete year in and year out in the tournament. This building could be something real special.
  5. the fact that I am responding to this, Arnold Palmer's grandson, name escapes me, is actually one of the finest young golfers in the country at the moment. When he was 15 he was the club champion at Bay Hill, Palmers club in Orlando. When he finishes school and moves to the next level watch out, he is a good one. Also his last name isn't Palmer. as stated above your posts are ignorant.
  6. did anyone in town see friday's business journal with the ad for the 2012 final four. I guess we are applying for future final four's, there is a mock bracket for the 2012 tournament, with a a slogan of "think big." they have the billikens as a 1 seed, playing non other than mizzou, also a 1, in the championship game. probably won't happen but a nice ad anyway!
  7. charlotte has a very good team, but if their coach leaves for UT, yeah rockytop, then they lose a big part of their mix. like him or not bobby lutz is a good coach, albeit a cry baby.
  8. hey we all know SLU stunk up the joint this year, all SLU fans know what we have, we all wish things went better. BUT you won't see SLU fans out their thumping their chest and being arrogant about their athletic programs. Mizzou has great facilites, the benefit of being the premier state academic institution in Missouri, but it is a joke in the major revenue athletics. I have never witnessed a bigger letdown than that football team this past fall, God you have no idea how much I wanted them to suceed, everything was in place, I even drank the koolaid. The basketball team has all the support it needs but your coach is a great representation of your athletic department. I could see the arrogance if ya'll had won something but the big 8 championships pale in comparison to NCAA sucess, or lack there of. I wish SLU had the sucess mizzou had in the 70's, 80's and 90's, but we all know SLU limitations. It really makes me laugh when the KU folks toy with the tigers.
  9. talent wise, we will have a better team next season, does that translate to a better record, that is too be determined. in terms of who is going to score, I look to the interior post first. I am comfortable in saying that when Ian is on the floor, our post offense will run through him. Ian, I think, is developing nicely into a solid D1 center that will be a real force in the next two seasons. I think that by the middle of next season is when we will see Ian really take off. I think Ian's numbers will be about 12-17pts and 8 rebounds, with many points coming at the line. The 4's job, VN/JJ/??, will be to play good defense, screen on offense, and attack the glass. the backcourt has some real talent. DP needs to realize that this is his team, esspecially when he is on the floor. What I mean as the point, he needs to take what is turing into a seriously talented group of young men an get em' all fluid. I'm not sure how to say it, he doesn't need to be a scoring threat, other than knock down an open shot, pull up on the break, and make his FT's. DB/LM have already shown their positive upside. DB can be a 15pt guy, heck coming from prep school he has a year on other sophmores. KL/TL bring new an exciting things to the table. I love that Tommie will be a year older than other freshman. I'm not that worried about Kevin, sports medicine is pretty damn good these days. Understanding that he has a great work ethic, there is no doubt in my mind that he will be ready come October. I am not really going to say anything about certain players who have been here prior to last season. They are not going to take us anywhere. This group of freshmen, sophmores and juniors are a solid foundation. What this all means in terms of W's and L's, we'll just have too wait until November.
  10. maybe after Quinn is fired following another subpar season with above average talent.
  11. not sure where the 4 came from, God I'm bored
  12. MU/SLU at savvis in 01, a. 20,602 not a sellout but darn close. KU/SLU at savvis in 98, 4 22,527 a sellout, more than MU/UI the night before.
  13. if the arena is ready(hopefully) for the 06-07 season and we have a team such as UNC on the schedule I would hope that it would be in the new building, I also realize that sometimes games are played on "neutral" sites. I also know that trying to put together big games becomes a rather large fiasco when it really shouldn't. When you break it down it should be "yeah will play you at our place and will go to your place here are our dates, what are your's." Unfortunately sometimes you get too many cooks in the kitchen. Two examples, SLU/Mizzou: while Doug was still here the series was basically agreed to, Doug/Alden on board, Quin finally yielded. Something like playing at Columbia and the return game would be at the Dome, Laurie got involved and wanted the STL game at Savvis(his place) full well knowing that Quinn didn't want the STL game on SLU's floor. Second: a Dome doubleheader for this season as a final four tune up for the Valley and the Dome, SLU v. Notre Dame essentially agreed to, the next game took some work it was going to be Arizona and Duke, when CBS got involved for the TV they took it over and basically got Duke and Arizona to agree upon a 2 game series starting next year. Thus sinking the doubleheader idea Those are just two examples of how screwed up scheduling a game in college basketball can become.
  14. wow didn't really take the new arena into context. if ground was broken this summer, big if, it might be ready for the the 06'-07' season, but savvis would be logical, because if we have a 13k seat arena that is potentially very hostile, with the angle of the student section behind the basket as steep as it is planned it would be like shooting into a wall of blue/white for visiting teams, UNC/RW would rather play a game a savvis, bigger crowd, tournament feel. if we are as potentially good as we might be, play the game around xmas of 06, like the night before the MU/UI game just as the SLU/KU game a few years back.
  15. that would be great, I guess we would go to Chaple Hill next season becasue TH would only be a frosh and UNC would maybe wan't the front end of that series at their place. quite a change for Roy Williams, last time he brought a team here he got beat and vowed never to bring a team back.
  16. from what I have heard, what confuses the staff is that they love DC's talent and ability, they are baffled as to why he hasn't put it all together and that has led some to speculate that he lacks the heart to be the player he needs to be. he is more than likely gone. take it what it is worth, don't shoot the messenger, hope it is wrong.
  17. Andy Katz, for what it is worth, stated this morning on espn radio mike n' mike that "everyones all american" Bobby Lutz is a possible favorite for the UT job.
  18. I would suggest that people look at some other schools to see what the cost for basekball tickets for a season is, in terms of what type donation is required per ticket, season ticket costs and what type of amenities you receive if you have "high rent" seats to those of standard seats without donations. I looked at Dayton, Xavier, Temple, Marquette and DePaul. Dayton: "thank you for supporting the Flyers. Please review the following criteria for access to the Boesch Lounge and Time Warner Cable Flight Deck. If you are interested in gaining access to these areas of the UD Arena, please contact the UD Ticket Office at 937/229-4433. Boesch Lounge and Time Warner Cable Flight Deck Access Criteria 2003 - 2004 Season Eligibility for Lounge Access Eligibility to access the Boesch Lounge and Time Warner Cable Flight Deck is determined by the level of annual contribution to University of Dayton Athletics. Annual contributions include contributions to the Arena Seating Plan or charitable gifts to athletics, such as donations for capital projects. Payments for season tickets or parking are not included in determining annual contribution level. We will determine the level of annual contribution for each season ticket holder by October 1 prior to each basketball season. Access Policy, Priority Levels and Color Code System # Season ticket holders whose annual contribution to athletics is $500 or greater will be eligible to access the two lounges based on a priority system. The three priority levels are: GOLD = $2,500 and above SILVER = $1,000 to $2,499 BRONZE = $500 to $999" XU you need to pony up if you want good seats at the Cintas Center, the only season tickets you can get without a donation or high end and high sides, upperbowl seating. Temple: PREFERRED SEATING Are you a preferred seat holder? You should be! Not only do you get access to the best seats in the Liacouras Center but the preferred seating program provides extra benefits such as: * Access to special post-game "chalk talks" with Coach Chaney and staff! * VIP Advance Ticket Purchase for select Liacouras Center and Wachovia Center events! * Tax Deductibility Preferred seating is located in section 102-104 and 112-114 in the Liacouras Center and requires a tax-deductible per seat donation. 19. you would almost expect that there would be some type of donation required for seats at the new arena, separate from the money being raised to fund the project. mizzou required a decent dollar amount, i remember talking with a guy at the ball game last summer who paid $25,000(courtside). just guessing what might happen would be maybe about $2,500 to $5,000 per seat in the lower bowl between the baselines, maybee $5,000 and up per seat for the premium seating areas. most schools do something like this for the major sports, arenas and football stadiums are divided up based on what you give on a yearly basis. and don't forget parking! G
  20. listen if you want to win and go to the next level the best player plays regardless of what year they are. all things considered, with a very young group next season AD best role is limited in games and significant in practice. when KL and TL arrive next fall, (fingers crossed) safe and sound, our talent level raises to levels we really haven't had and with that in mind they should play from day 1. people need to realize that AD will not take us anywhere, he is not a difference maker, this will be his FOURTH season and you can't sit and wait for someone in their last season to show something. when a significant talent UPGRADE arrives that talent needs to play.
  21. While I have been hard on AD, I do think that his "role" should be to drive DP nuts in practice with good tough ball pressure D, be a supportive leader for the team and spot his minutes when you may need, as stated earlier, a spark off the bench. When you look at what a wing/guard depth chart would look like he is at the bottom. 1.) TL 2.) DB 3.) KL 4.) DP 5.) LM 6.) AD On paper that is a good group, you can play around with 1-5. I didn't include DC because it is my understanding that right, wrong or indifferent he might be gone. Another USC reference here, during spring practice the returning players are told that this is their time to shine becauce when fall practice starts the new guys will take reps with the first teamers so the staff can better gage what they have to work with. Stated another way, if a frosh or soph is better than a an upperclassman the upperclassman watches. In SLU's case, if healthy, KL and God willing grades TL will be in the mix from day one. You don't bring serious talent that can play and have them watch.
  22. I can't help but have to same feeling I did when I left Busch Stadium after game 4 of the series last year. OK, I'll smile because we have some building blocks here, we've got, as of this hour, 2 young men on the way with 2 more to sign, maybe 3 if someone leaves as is thought. I'll take a step back and say that AD will be a major vet leader, while I thinks he plays a 1000 miles out of control, I do see a scenario where we can "hide" him with better talent around him, maximize his ability thus giving the team what they need to win. We have a bright future with this group that remains, plus the two recruits(add 2-3 here) and the A10, cheesesteak anyone? our spring is October, the same time when Ole' SC beats the domers for the 4th year in a row, and NO Charlie Weis, you won't "wipe that ###### eating grin of Pete Carroll's face!"
  23. I was reading in the post today that the Northern Iowa AD is a Division 1 ref. That is a little strange, just goes to show you how screwed up the NCAA is!
  24. yeah another pissing constest!!!!!!!!
