  1. there were a lot more important games then ours yesterday .. they'll make it on today .. win or lose .. not to mention T-MAC went for 62 points last night .. which is deserving of some air time .. NBA had a big night (kobe, duncan, kidd all returned from injury, and the cavs won again) .. and there was a lot of college basketball as well .. SLU vs Southern Miss .. not all that important around the nation .. sorry ..
  2. According to Dan Patrick .. this is the biggest margin of victory over a number one team by a non ranked opponent (perhaps even ranked) .. since the 1960's
  3. Missouri would be the "team no one wants to play" in the tourney .. i think they'll get a look .. because they could make things interesting if their talent pool wakes up .. i agree .. they have to win tonight and at least give Kansas a run ..
  4. No one is sure Richmond is in .. I agree with everything else BRoy .. gives us a little hope ... hey is TF playing tonight?
  5. cheesey cow .. you're a tiger fan right? .. Xavier winning is bad news for ya (and me too)... i don't see how a team that loses by 30 .. can be a number 1 .. no team in the tourney earning an "at large bid" should be losing to anyone by 30 .. especially a number 1 seed ..
  6. This is why I mentioned that St. Joe's could possibly be the first 16 vs 1 upset ... if they go cold with their shooting .. they don't have an inside game to fall back on .. Although .. if they lose by 20 .. then I think they'll fall to a 2 seed ..
  7. that's a cool site .. people should take a look at it ..
  8. Steve Sign Guy .. does your family have a vested interest in the university .. did one of your parents go there? .. bro? .. sis? or is it just something you picked up? some weird sign idea's: "Billiken Madness" .. draw a billiken with a foaming mouth .. "What! A Billiken's not a Hobbit?" "You've been Vouyoukased" .. if Ian scores ..
  9. the first game against Mizzou was under Romar's command the Billikens beat up on Keyon Dooling with Justin Love .. Chris Heinrich had a solid game. Justin Tatum played one of his best games as a billiken. .. i think the Bills lineup involved Love, Redden, Ferg, Tatum, Baniak, Heinrich, Braun (frosh?), Mo Jeffers ...
  10. I think Polk is "qualified" ... at least as qualified as a high school kid could be .. his Vashon squad has traveled the nation to play some of the best teams over the past 4 years .. he has held up .. i think we'll be okay .. i actually think we'll be quite suprised .. DP will create more than our guards have this year .. that should aid Reggie .. do you guys think Polk will be able to penetrate on the college level? .. is his knee 100%? .. has he lost quickness?

  12. your link doesn't show marquette on the bubble it shows DePaul .. chill out .. here's what it says perhaps you thought the Memphis logo was Marquette????? ON THE BUBBLE: DePaul C-USA looks like it's on the way to an all-time high five NCAA bids. Will it get six? That depends on DePaul and what happens in the conference tourney. DePaul (17-8, 10-4; RPI: 54, SOS: 87) The Blue Demons beat Louisville in overtime last week. They play Cincinnati on Wednesday. DePaul has just two RPI top-25 wins, and a third would be very helpful at this point of the season. Beating Southern Mississippi on Saturday just adds a notch in the W column, but doesn't help the NCAA résumé. The Blue Demons also have wins over UAB and Marquette. What the committee will look at more are those eight wins over teams above 150 and all eight losses coming to teams 100 or lower, all of which makes the Demons an enigma into the C-USA tourney.
  13. "I will be rooting for St. Joe's but realize that while they could win it all, they could also lose more easily than a typical 1 seed. That makes them even more exciting to watch (and harder to "fill out brackets" on)." - kwyjibo I agree, and that is exactly why I brought it up. There have been a number of 16 vs 1 close calls of late. It'll have to happen at some point. I think that St. Joe's either goes far, or goes early. It's okay to dislike Stanford. Here's why! National Championships: 95 NCAA Championships: 85 (No. 2) Men's NCAA Championships: 56 (No. 3) Women's NCAA Championships: 29 (No. 1) Individual NCAA Championships: 374* NCAA Team Championships Since 1985: 59* NCAA Team Championships Since 1980: 68*
  14. I'd be willing to bet that Shortal is still enrolled. He's a pretty smart kid. I think his making the team was pretty spontaneous. I think that he was just a terrific rec player who was given a chance. I don't think his blood line had to play a factor in him being a part of the program. Of all the guys I know who tried out, or could have been given a shot, he was the best. Honestly, I don't think he was recruited out of SLUH, so he must have been happy just to be playing. I asked "players" about Kevin in practice. I was told that he spent time guarding Drew Diener, and had trouble keeping up. It just looks like Soderberg brought in Wendell Bennett and Ian Mooney. I think Shortal knew he was getting squezed out. He's seems too nice and too intelligent .. for that to have been a problem for him. Anyone seen Shortal lately? I'm not in St. Lou. .. if he has been in the gym, i'm sure someone reading this board could say so. Anyone know anything about Mooney? Was Mooney recruited to walk on? Or is he someone that could have beaten Shortal out. The bio's make it sound that they're the same size? What kind of player is he? Shooter? Bennett is the other walk on. I spoke to him during his first week on campus and he told me that he had been recruited to come to SLU as a walk on. .. he is from Brooklyn .. which leads me to believe that his "recruitment" has to be true, not many people from Brooklyn pop up at SLU without having some family in town, or an interest in our flight program. Wendell is probably the most physically imposing Billiken that i've ever stepped onto a court with. I couldn't believe that he was a freshman, the guy is just muscular. Wendell has upside. I'm sure Roy or anyone who goes to their practices would know more about him. I haven't seen him play since that day, and I have no idea how he does in practice. He does have a body, I think he caught me with an elbow once (not good). I'm not sure he's big enough to play anything but a guard position. But, he looks the part of a basketball player. Does anyone think that this guy after another year or two .. could crack the lineup? or earn a scholarship a la Philip Hunt? Very curious. How is his ball handling?
  15. Anyone think that St. Joe's or Stanford could be the first 1 vs 16 upset in NCAA history?
  16. I went to almost every game for 4 years (98-02). I'm an avid sports fan, even coach basketball, and I had been in the metropolitan area every year of my life until about 6 months ago (now stranded next to DePaul) .. and I never would have gotten a whiff as to who "easy ed" was if it weren't for the fact that Kevin Shortal balled in the rec center all the time and eventually made the team, and I read his bio.
  17. 1. Cardinals 2. Rams 3. Blues 4. Mizzou 5. Billikens 6. Illini 7. Prep Sports 8. Auto Racing 9. Golf What is our appropriate postion? Curious to hear people's thoughts. Inject a little realism though ... I don't think we need to see SLU in the top 3! Do the east - siders think that the Illini should be ahead of us?
  18. I bet that over 99% of SLU's student body couldn't tell you who he is!
  19. Perhaps the alumni have to respond to the questionnaire's sent out by the university saying .. who you are, where you live, what you do .. etc .. in order to be counted .. It would be real tough for SLU to dig through the obituaries every day .. in all 50 states .. etc etc .. hehehe.. I'm in my early 20's .. and never filled out the material .. thus, i may not be apart of that number!
  20. I think that the extra coverage that Mizzou receives in the news also may increase the amount of non-affiliated fans of the university. The fact that they play in a "bigger" 12 conference adds credibility .. and stability .. something that CUSA doesn't have every year. Mizzou obviously gets more "face" time on ESPN, which seems to influence the common fans opinion quite easily, and recruits too. All i'm trying to say is that it's more than just the alumni base that cheers these teams on, but it sure would be nice if our alumni was less apathetic. I agree with the idea that the "commuter school" notion that was clearly an issue in the 60's, 70's, 80's .. and early 90's .. that has since changed .. with an on campus arena .. and a little success in the tourney would work wonders with the attitude of our fan base.
  21. Steve Lavin, the ex-UCLA guy, made it clear while on ESPN that he too is interested in the job.
  22. I like what Ed said in regards to him not understanding why Mizzou gets more coverage. But the fact that the post had to explain who he is in a blurb should clarify "why we don't get coverage." As much as I hate to say it, the Mizzou program had lofty expectations coming into this season. They spent time in the top 10 this year, only to fall very far ... very fast. The turmoil that they have endured is more of a story than anything the Billikens have done this year. Sorry to break it to you, Mizzou has been watched nationally all year, and I don't think that the Chicago Tribune, NY Times, and LA Times are going to write feature articles on Josh Fisher approaching the assist record. Ricky Clemons, Quin, and all of their underworld dealings are just more interesting in the media world. And our local paper has to give them press in order to maintain some shred of credibility. Feel good stories, like our blue collar bills, never get the press that they deserve .. and not just in our newspaper. This happens everywhere. There are more Mizzou fans in the metropolitan area than even I want to admit. During the Mizzou/SLU game at the Saviss a couple years ago (the wesley stokes finish), it sure sounded like there were a lot more Missouri fans in our own building, than Billiken Blue followers. And that drove me completely insane. There clearly is a more vested interest in the Tigers than our Bills. While on campus over the last four years, I met a number of hardcore Tiger fans. Some of them even had the "sac" to sit in our student section that day. Our own school has a lot of Mizzou fans, and a higher than healthy percent. We need to look to the future. These facts can been changed, the instant that we hit the top 25 at some point in the future (hopefully as soon as possible). Until we do that, they'll never take us seriously. I think the new venue is a great step, jamming our regular amount of fans into a smaller venue will equal more noise, more students and more fun. Local high school games are louder than Billiken outings (Vashon vs Anybody, MCC Rivalries, dare I say Viz vs St. Joe!). This will all change, and thank God.
  23. everyone keeps talking about Justin Johnson's .. athleticism .. he is not that athletic ... he is not going to overwhelm any D1 player with his speed or leaping ability .. this is a guy who was released by basketball "powerhouse" K-State of his scholarship so that K-State could take someone else he was not a "can't miss" .... Soderberg rolled the dice on him .. obviously JJ was not wanted by many .. there must have been "something up" Soderberg rolled the dice on AD .. no one wanted him either .. UB made a good decision there and Anthony has done a hell of a job competing over the past two years .. With this recruiting style, it's going to be tough .. I'm glad that next years class has at least 2 players that we know can compete (DP and TL) .. and a third who we think will translate into a decent D1 player. .. Let's find a power forward who can throw one down once a month ..
  24. Don't they select the first team stuff according to position?
