  1. I liked how he played so well last year in Boston and NY. It showed how little effort he was putting forth the rest of the time. I'm guessing Lou, if anyone, will be able to wring out the last few drops of productivity from Tino.
  2. If we had to give up players to get Sterling Hitchcock, I think a minor league player is the least we should get. A minor leaguer and a box of balls would do.
  3. How ironic that we got a guy named Rust in return! http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...no+to+Tampa+Bay
  4. I don't know if they do it for SLU games, but certain bars downtown provide shuttles to Blues and Cards games -- Syberg's, Panama Reds. I think they may charge $1 for the shuttle but parking is free at the bars. Also, Maggie's has a free lot (at least it used to be) that you could probably use if you grab a beer there before the game.
  5. Does the A10 have hockey? Is SLU's team still a club team?? Will the new arena have ice???
  6. Schasz -- I'm going to the Key in December to see the Zags take on Mizzou. That should be a great game!! Too bad Conley won't be eligible yet for MU.
  7. >I think I remember Charles Barkley saying something a couple >years ago about the irony of the best golfer in the world >being black and the best rapper in the world being white, >but I'm not sure where the rest of the quote came from. I remember that too. I'm pretty sure Chris Rock said this first and everyone else is quoting him. It was part of a larger monologue about how the world is all up.
  8. "Dwayne is a point guard in the truest sense of the word," Soderberg said. "He is exceptionally quick with the ball, an excellent floor general and an outstanding scorer. More importantly, because of the direction that he's received from Vashon head coach Floyd Irons, all Dwayne knows is winning." I like the plug for Irons and Vashon. That's the kind of thing that will go a long way to making this year's local recruiting success the norm instead of the exception.
  9. slufanskip-- I couldn't agree more. I didn't listen to a lot of talk radio back in my Saint Louis days. However, the few times I heard Claiborne take calls all he would do is cut people off and repeat his opinion over and over again. I guess he thought people could hear him better if he got them on the phone. My question is, what does this guy do in the sports community in STL besides host a bad radio show?
  10. We've got everybody right where we want them -- underestimating us. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/6820668 Top three: G Reggie Bryant, G Josh Fisher, F Chris Sloan On the decline: Bryant, a Villanova transfer, gets the chance to fill Marque Perry's 17-point-per-game shoes. The Billikens need every point they can get from Bryant considering their leading returning scorer, Fisher, averaged 8.2 last season. Another 16-win season isn't a guarantee.
  11. Observer -- good to hear about the research facility. Are they going to build it on that huge empty lot behind the hospital? Also, good point about student recruiting with regards to the east coast exposure from the A-10. Roy said: >i never thought of this angle before. take the 12 best of >the two conferences and you are correct, depaul might be in >trouble. that said, my guess is they dont have the guts to >cut out the dc and chicago markets. you know who might be >in trouble if they dont continue on the upward path is >marquette. what if they dive as fast as they rose. over a >5 year period they could easily be back to where they were 4 >years ago in a conference as challenging as the big east. >and they dont have the big market to fall back on like >depaul does. wouldnt that be ironic! It seems that the only way Marquette goes down hill quickly is if Crean leaves. Doubt that'll happen now that he's in the big east.
  12. I agree, this spot would be perfect. Right by the new garage and about 3-5 blocks from the old one. Students could walk to the games without having to leave campus. The question is, is there enough room here. if so, how much other stuff will have to be torn out (if anything)? tennis courts? the softball field? ponds?
  13. also looks a little like Yosemite Sam in new duds.
  14. Here's a link regarding Hunt. He's a senior this year. http://slubillikens.ocsn.com/sports/m-bask.../092403aaa.html
  15. Let me offer no answer but instead add an additional question for the scholarship whiz to answer. When is McClain's scholarship available again? Is he playing this year/has he hung it up -- what's the deal there?
  16. >i am the biggest hughes fan in the world, but i too would >say he has not lived up to the potential. yet, that doesnt >mean he has been a failure. especially considering he is >still just 24 years old. Wow!! I knew he was young but didn't realize he was still only 24. So if he played four years in college he'd be a third year player right now. Good for Hughes. Hopefully his career is on the up swing over the next several years!!
  17. that sucks when your attacker is protected. you can't fight back!
  18. >Now that I think about it, the season that Larry Hughes had >as a freshman in 1997-98 was quite similar to the season >that Anthony Peeler had as a senior in 1991-92. Their >supporting casts were similar and the outcomes of their >seasons were similar (second round of NCAA Tournament). > >Still, I think that enhances my argument that Hughes is a >better player than Peeler (or anyone else I've seen come >through the two schools). Thicks, that does qualify it then. Since they had very similar seasons and pretty good results, the edge has to go to the guy that did it as a Freshman as opposed to the senior. I still have this urge to wonder what Peeler could have done with a different coach. By the same token, it was the indoctrination in and emphasis on fundamentals and defense that has kept Peeler in the league as his athleticism has deteriorated with age. AP had some springs in college...no more! My two cents on Hughes -- I'm shocked at how mediocre he's been so far in his career. I suppose he's still young, but I expected this guy to one day dominate in the NBA. Was this unrealistic? BRoy, was it you that said he's looking like a new player so far in preseason??
  19. Edmonds seems like a really cool town - very quiet, laid back. I got lucky when I moved here and landed an apartment with a view of downtown, part of Elliot Bay and the mountain (on a clear day)! I definitely need to make the drive down to the Oregon coast. I've been to the Washington coast but I've heard it doesn't really hold a candle to Oregon. My parents were in town this summer and we made it up to Victoria (via the Clipper) and Buchart Gardens. That place was packed!! I think I would have enjoyed it more if not for the bus loads of people strolling the walkways. in spite of the crowds, it was an impressive place.
  20. >>As a freshman, Hughes was better than Peeler as a senior As a huge fan of both of these guys, I'm not sure how one can qualify this statement with the differences in teams, conferences, schedules and most importantly coaches. I wonder what Peeler may have done in college if the coach handed over the reigns to him as Spoon did to Hughes. SLU was the Legends team in his one and only year and he definitely made a huge impact. Didn't he score over 600 points?! I definitely agree that Hughes was better as a Freshman than Peeler and probably was better than soph and jr Peeler too. I just remember some epic performances by Peeler in his Sr season where he took over games. He had a pretty incredible senior season.
  21. >I still have a few friends who live in Seattle, so I know that they >had both a dry and warm summer. Keep in mind, the majority of homes >in Seattle do not have AC, so if the Temps get in the upper 80's to >low 90's for any period of time, people get a little testy and start >hoping for rain. True Seattlelites love the rain and think that is >the way it should be...IMHO that's crazy, as we worship the sun. Very true. Around the end of July people were praying for rain as we went about 60 days without a drop of precipitation this summer. I'm definitely not one of those people that loves the rain but I don't mind it, so far. I still don't think I've experienced a true NW winter. I was visiting back in the winter of '98-99 and I think it rained pretty much everyday in January and February (probably when you decided you had enough!). People were going nuts. Luckily, last winter there was plenty of sunshine. It really was no different proportionately to winter in Saint Louis...other than temp. The view of the Sound and the Olympics is great! Especially in June when the sunset lasts until about 11pm. I haven't made it up to Vancouver or Whistler yet. Let me know if you think of any other PNW travel tips.
  22. Horton won't be on the team until next year...asuming the NCAA's investigation doesn't scare off the recruits from signing. Gardner and Conley will be competing with Jimmy this year along with Paulding and Pulley.
  23. any good stories about shooting hoops with Gibson? what a cool experience!!
  24. Alameda, welcome to the board. It's good to know I have some company on the west coast. Schasz- So you say you got water logged in Seattle?! I think you mentioned living in Seattle before. Did you lived in Everett? I live just north of downtown and people tell me that I've had unusually great weather since I moved here (plenty of those rare sunny winter days)-- and then this summer was one of the driest on record. I don't miss the heat or the cold at all. We'll see how winter #2 goes; I may be looking to move to the sunshine state myself...
