  1. Worked for Creighton with McDermott and Oregon State with Tinkle
  2. I give Memphis an advantage since the academic standards to get in and remain conduct of having a pulse.
  3. Alverez may reach out to Bennett but that will be it. They won't pay what Tony will want. Alverez won't even pay football coaches. Plus, there's bad blood between the Bennetts and Barry and Bo Ryan. I hope Gard gets the job, he's earned it. If the Minnesota administration weren't in such disarray (beyond athletics) I'd think little Ricky would be gone but it's a complete dumpster fire at The U right now. Who knows, maybe daddy comes to his rescue.... SLU will be the top non Power 5 job opening save Georgetown and maybe Memphis opening up.
  4. Shimmy was a disaster. Stone has brought the program a long way from that.
  5. Minnesota may not open up yet. It's only little Ricky's 3rd year and the AD situation is unsettled. The Bennett to Wisconsin ship sailed years ago. Of the Power 5 not mentioned, Clemson may come open, Oklahoma State is possible since Ford has been on the hot seat for years, any others would be rather unexpected. Good time for SLU to be actively hiring.
  6. Minimum of 3 from the A10. Dayton and VCU should be locks right now, SJU and Bona on the right side of the bubble right now. Bona with most precarious situation. SJU and Bona play the same 4 teams on the way out (each other once), neither can afford 2-2 to avoid sweating it out on Selection Sunday.
  7. Truth hurts, eh? It's the new reality for us non Power 5 schools. Miller at Dayton, the Bonaventure coach, VCU, all perfect examples.
  8. Fordham doesn't have Chaifetz. Fordham doesn't have a legitimate recruiting budget. Besides, a "big name" isn't coming to a non Power 5 school with the direction the NCAA is going. We need to get a guy who will grow into a big name. Even if the guy uses it as a stepping stone to a Power 5 job it will mean SLU is back in the top 25. A retread who views SLU as a final destination, well, that what we have now.
  9. Young proven low major coach (not even their first choice) starting to make Fordham look respectable. We don't need a big name or a retread to turn things around.
  10. No AD in America is going to say anything about his coach's job status during a TV interview at halftime of a televised game. Read nothing into that.
  11. Keady was a special assistant. He was not allowed to coach the players. Lavin's bench coaches were Mike Dunlap, Tony Chiles and Rico Hines and when Dunlap left Jim Whitsell left SLU for St. John's. Yes, it's true Lav was on Purdue's staff, 25 years ago. Times have changed, especially with MJ in the picture. Also, the knock on Lavin that led to his undoing at St. John's was his lack of visibility recruiting, especially locally. Plus, he left the cupboard rather bare at St. John's. He had multiple guys not qualify academically or leave due to disciplinary issues, things that wouldn't go over well at SLU, especially when they'd have to pay him over $2 million a year to come. No retreads. SLU needs an energetic, up and coming coach, be it an assistant from a top program (e.g. Dane Fife) or a successful low to mid-major who was able to win without the facilities and resources SLU can offer (e.g. Scott Nagy).
  12. Lavin's weakness is X's and O's. It was his weakness at UCLA and at St. John's. He struggled when Mike Dunlap left for the Bobcats job and hired Whitsell as his X's and O' guy. Keady was never a bench coach. http://www.bruinsnation.com/2011/2/4/1973417/why-we-hate-steve-lavin That said, he's not going anywhere in the Midwest. He's a big city guy, his wife is an actress and fashion designer. He lived in a SoHo loft, that's his style. I would be surprised if he coaches anywhere again.http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/steve-lavin-new-coach-st-john-wife-mary-ann-jarou-set-city-storm-article-1.173300
  13. Woolard wanted to hire Gregory but Gregory wanted a significant financial commitment from the school, such as bigger recruiting budget, assistant salaries and facilities upgrades. Biondi wasn't willing to to do that so he vetoed Woolard and hired Soderberg who just wanted the job and was willing to take what SLU has to offer. Eventually Biondi came around but only because Chaifetz ponied up the dollars.
  14. He made $1.8million at the end of his tenure at St. John's and leaving was a mutual decision. Can SLU match that? That said, likes doing TV and being on the west coast. I prefer the assistant route. Dane Fife has been mentioned, that would be an excellent hire. Izzo has always respected SLU. He encouraged Gregory to pursue the job (after telling him not to pursue DePaul) when Romar left.
  15. No, Lavin is not. That said, he's staying on the West Coast. Plus, there is no way his wife is moving to STL. She's a fashion designer now. If he takes another job it will be at USF where is dad coached.
  16. Where are people getting the idea that terminating Crews would mean paying the remainder of the contract? Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if the buyout were rather minimal, such as less than one year. It isn't as if Crews had a ton of leverage to demand such a clause when he was hired. In fact, it was the administration that had all of the leverage in negotiations which to me indicates the buyout will be much less.
  17. And yet Stanford just won the national title despite playing in a 1500 seat stadium (http://www.gostanford.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30600&ATCLID=208445358) and UCLA, College Cup 2 years ago, plays here: http://www.uclabruins.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=208271493. Wahington's is a joke too. Herrman is also superior to almost all of the Big East soccer facilities. St. John's plays on top of a parking garage. We have it pretty good with Herrman.Plus, every team benefits from Chaifetz.
  18. Few are. It's college, not MLS. I've been to multiple Pac-12 facilities that are nowhere near as good as Hermann.
  19. Basketball and volleyball, and I highly doubt anything those schools have is better than Herrnann. And don't forget all teams use the training and medical facilities in Chaifetz as well, which are certainly better than SIUE, Wash U and others in the region.
  20. So you one of those coaches who are in the "foul when tied on the road in the last seconds" school. Coach K is intrigued and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
  21. All things considered I wouldn't want anyone with Louisville/Pitino connections.
  22. Pitino isn't coming to SLU and that's a mutual decision.
  23. I give them credit for never packing it in and making Duquense work for it down the stretch. Any other positives?
