  1. Let's hope we did not land another VN. VN shot a total of around 20 FT's in his tenure at SLU. This tells me he wasn't mixing it up where he should have been-inside-where elbows fly, hips shove, and butts push. Got to like his size.
  2. I'd like to see us play USC a home and home...that would be something.
  3. http://ncaabasketball.aolsportsblog.com/ It seems we have got more publicity in the last week than in the last 10 years.
  4. The ship may not have been sinking but it was DIW (Dead in the water). I think UB got treated very fair after the end of the season with being given a shot to go out and sign some spring recruits. I'll wager if you were a fly on the wall in February, discussions about UB centered on 0 fall recruits, the loss of HD and Obi (two high risk recruits who left), no indications that other than Kramer we were a lock for any of the '08 class. I think we naively assume the powers that be just look at a coach's record and his public persona (stay out of trouble) and pay no attention to recruiting. These folks know, as does every fan, that at the least recruiting is 75% of a HC's job. To think UB was never asked "whose on the table and what's your chance of landing him" is not being realistic.
  5. Surprised the Bonnie's didn't win all their home games last year. When you have to travel by snowmobiles to get there you're gonna be one tired puppy. By the way if that's the way St. B's teaches welding they must have a bunch of blind alums.
  6. I think RM's self effacing and secure enough to know he ain't Jude Law or Brad Pitt. Nor does he want to be. Also, am sure when he was at Utah he received the brunt end of a bunch of "big" jokes and jeers as his UTE's beat up on everybody. Why respond to idiot losers whose only thrill in life is playing wise guy on the internet?
  7. The brother's in arms deal with MU and DePaul lasted about 3 seconds after Dave Gavin sent them their invites. But the best plan is to work behind the scenes with some of these schools and try and have a plan in place if the BEasy football schools start getting nasty to their non FB brethren. I think this is what RM was implying was a possibility based on his experience of trying to get Utah into the PAC 10...football was the deciding factor. The problem is FB is not the major sport at BE schools, that would be hoops. Name one BE school other than WVU where FB reigns supreme. Granted they're getting better; Rutgers, UConn, UL, and UC, but traditionally they're bb schools. Does anyone know how revenue sharing in the BE works? I mean do the non FB schools receive any FB $$$....?
  8. I got off my Majerus High and checked it out....sounds like he had a drinking problem.
  9. I haven't been following it, why ugly?
  10. CofC was in a similar situation to SLU when they let Herion go. Even worse it was done in June. Their first choice was Marshall but he stiffed them a day after taking the post, ala Altman at Ark. Supposedly one of the boosters was a golfing friend of Cremmins who then expressed interest. Done deal. PC and press was huge here in Cton. Excitement continues. Biggest thing to happen was CofC was trying to raise funds for the expansion of Kresse Court/Arena. Cremmins signing put them over the top within a month. Now as to recruiting, he had one JUCO all American who was being recruitied heavily by MD, NCS, and some SEC schools, this kid calls Cremmins to ask if he'd be interested in him. LOI followed shortly thereafter. And Cremmins doesn't have the national rep RM has. Yes he took GT to the final four, and he knows NYC backwards and forwards, but he wasn't on ESPN, did local work mostly Southern Conference, and has been out a lot longer than RM. I would expect the same, if not greater at SLU. In fact have sent my check in for two bricks.
  11. Would agree, V, doesn't he watch college hoops on ESPN? Maybe we should have hired Dickie V?
  12. Can't remember who said this, maybe one of the '08 recruits themselves, but basically it was SLU offered and I haven't heard from them since. That doesn't sound like a lot of work to me.
  13. One of the articles above noted that she was asked about her future. A terse answer: "Today's not about me." From everything we've read, she wanted to give UB one more shot, but this whole review process, according to Biondi, started in February with her, Weixlemann(sp), Biondi, and someone else, Chaifetz would be my guess as that was about the time he made the big gift. So it wasn't like she was left out of the loop. It simply sounded like she got out voted 3-1 in favor of letting Brad go. At any big time program, an HC never serves or not serves solely at the discretion of the AD. Biondi was building a Basketball Super Store on I40, he couldn't very well stock it with lousy products. He had a lot of $$ to worry about. She may feel justified that she was over ruled, didn't play a leading role, and was back doored (figuratively speaking of course). But this was a major paradigm shift for SLU and clearly required the top dog to get it done. It's done. If she leaves, she leaves. I'm sure with the new money being pumped into the program, we'll land her equal or someone better.
  14. RM thanked him...anyone still think he wasn't a major player in this hire and the termination of UB. By the way, even as a avowed ABC'er, you had to feel for UB today. It was nice of RM to pay him some homage. I'm glad he's gone, but still wish he'd given us a reason to have kept him, ie bringing in solid players, getting us dancing, etc. Because I really think he would have stayed at SLU for a long time.
  15. More like a man preparing for his first bungy jump or parachute jump from 15,000ft. Billiken fans are definitely sailing in uncharted waters.
  16. Hey, who knows, we never in a million years would have ever thought Rick Majerus would be our coach.
  17. I would love to see the league be split East West. Keep some of the A10 stronger schools: St.Joe's, UMass, RI, Charlotte, GW, Richmond, Temple. Add X and Dayton to the east side. Still gives us exposure on the east coast. One thing I did like is when RM intimated the Big East might some day implode or explode. He mentioned Utah's bid to enter the PAC 10. What did they bring football wise was the deciding factor. Now if anyone would know if there were problems in the Big East I would think it would be an ESPN analyst. I'm sure they catch a lot of things not intended for public consumption.
  18. I'd give the A-10 another year or two. It's hard to believe schools like UMass, X, Dayton, Charlotte (who I hear is not happy with A-10 either), GW, St. J's, RI, and a couple of others are going to be complacent with recent history. We might even want to initiate some sort of merger with MVC for a super mid major conference. An East and West division would be special for all involved. Get good enough you may have this kind of influence.
  19. I don't know what the student section was like when Spoon was here. But when I went back in the dark ages there were just a hardcore bunch of us that went to games. Sometimes it felt like we were all alone especially back in the Arena days. A few games you'd get good turnouts but rarely. Like when we played Austin Carr and ND. I think more kids were cheering for ND than us. From posts on here it still seems like most SLU kids would prefer a seat in the Dentists office to one at Scott Trade. I think this is where RM can have his biggest impact. If kids are pumped about the team and word of mouth spreads that a Bills game is the place to be, we start a tradition like the Fez, and the house that Rick's Help Building is rocking every game, going to SLU will be a whole new ballgame. I hope someone creative out there comes up with a nickname for the Student Section, Rick's Roost, Rick's Cafe Billikana, Rick's Raiders, anything and convinces the AD that some kind of signage for that area be installed. If you can't get excited about Rick Majerus being our coach, you better check your pulse rate.
  20. Thanks for the link, the guy's a natural born comedian.
  21. Has it happened? Atmosphere....;Majerus statements.
  22. I thought Gate receipts were shared somehow? You mean if Duke plays Florida...Florida keeps all the money? I don't think so, but maybe wrong.
  23. I saw that the other day...#23 in the nation I believe. I don't know how Lutz seems to get land great talent year after year like he does.
  24. Good idea. I think both those games bought in 30k plus if I'm not mistaken. I don't think the AD would mind missing a game at the Chai for an extra 10-15k in seat revenue say if we bought in Duke. But my original point was, it's going to make it a harder sell to the bigs to come to STL to a smaller venue with no apparent guarantee of a W.
  25. The rebirth post below got me to thinking about scheduling biggies into ST.Louis in the future. Now assume RM get's this thing going like Utah, are there any big time majors, Duke, UNC, KY, etc that are going to be thrilled about coming into The Fetz or The Chai to play us. Pdiddy said over the past 5 or 6 years we've enjoyed seeing AZ, KU, UNC, Zaga et al, but they played at Scott Trade in front of 17K plus...big payday made it worth their while. Now at the new arena it's going to be considerably smaller and they could be up against hopefully one of the best mid major programs in the country. We won't be an easy W. To attract these type of non con foes, which we must for RPI purposes, will these games have to be scheduled at Scott Trade or will the bigs come to the friendly, and hopefully hellish for them, confines of the new building?
