  1. Does the hiring of Schertz, a hot mid major name, and rumors of a hefty NIL war chest signal that this is the moment we’re seriously pushing to get into the Beast? The Fox contract with the Beast expires after the 25-26 season I believe. Fox will likely insist the Beast expand to compete with the P5 conferences that may be whittled down to the P4 sooner than later. SLU made a rather un SLU like move by terminating Travis Ford and eating his buyout. It would seem the powers that be were frustrated with the program’s direction under Ford and figured all our pluses, ie facilities, TV market size, and similar school profile, would not be enough to gain entry into the Beast. We need to prove that we are serious about building a winning program. Hence, the hefty commitment of financial resources were necessary to be considered for Beast acceptance. My guess is this is what’s behind SLU’s taking these very unlike SLU actions. Now all we have to do is Win, Baby, Win!
  2. I think our buyout of the MOU might have swayed their decision. Or Schertz saw what a pressure cooker UL could become.
  3. If true about JS signing for $2mm and 6 years and succeeds as expected SLU will get a hefty buyout if he leaves after 2-3 years. No idea if it would be equal to his salary times years left, but even if it’s at half salary that’s still a nice chunk of cash.
  4. No bed of roses. A tough compassionate guy. You have to love his perseverance thru some difficult times. We may have found our Al McGuire/ Rick Majerus combo.
  5. You’d have to think who he could bring and what it would cost was discussed. Would he have come without some assurances they’d cover it? I don’t think so. I’m getting the vibe that SLU has finally grasped that hoops is a critical piece in the school’s success.
  6. $2mm for a sweet 16 or elite 8 team sounds reasonable.
  7. New thread with Pit Bull, the Band, the Dance Team, Cheerleaders. Time to go Full Tilt Boogie and welcome the new Major Domo of Midtown.
  8. The Indy article implied 4 of Schertz’ ISU players would be in Billiken Blue next year. I’d guess Schertz made that part of his deal. Elsewise, he’d be starting from scratch having to teach the holdovers and any new transfers his schemes. If he’s bringing 4 of his guys it makes implementing his system a lot easier.
  9. TJ’s gone. No eligibility.
  10. Travis is probably wondering why he wasn’t given such a big NIL treasure chest. Even more than this season’s meltdown, I’d say his goose was cooked after the disaster that occurred in the 22-23 season. If he couldn’t coach that squad into the dance there was no good reason to give him the funds to pursue talent that he couldn’t coach up to get the desired results. Travis’ legacy as a coach will be great salesman but a mediocre coach.
  11. James really likes Dambrot. But he resigned, so I don’t see where that helps his old coach that much.
  12. Sorry, Rich, but we’ve been conditioned to imagine the worst.
  13. Just read where Schertz might be a possibility to replace Musselman at Arkansas. The story listed 7 candidates. Again, my Billiken paranoia has me wondering is this the reason for his delaying an announcement that he’s heading to SLU?
  14. I have a sinking feeling he’s gonna stay at ISU. Those fans were crazy. Give him $700k and pay those guys to return, he may be thinking I can go deep in the dance. This may be my Billiken Paranoia coming to the fore, but I think we better be looking elsewhere unless we got him by the nuts legally.
  15. If he comes, Gibby would be crazy to leave. He’d tear ‘em up in this offense.
  16. Tied at the half. ISU is well coached says Captain Obvious l.,
  17. CofC is now believing they’ll become the next Zaga after hiring Mack.
  18. Schertz, Bucky, Wade in that order.
  19. Let’s have a separate thread about local media, so I can pass it by. I’m more concerned about what happens if Schertz says thanks but no thanks. Then who?
  20. Watching him at MB I thought there was potential. But he plays soft and never just stepped it up. Under a different coach, who knows? You can’t teach 7’.
  21. USC is supposedly trying to get Musselman from AR. If they get him, the opening at Arkansas would scare me about Schertz. There is no way we’d be able to compete with them unless this rumored MOU is real and would cost them to pay us for his change of mind. My guess is his agent is either angling for a better package with SLU or looking at some unknown P5 that may be looking. I guess he could also take the lifestyle route and stay at ISU. If he reneges on us, who’s out there? I sure hope we have a list of competent backups, or else the board will go ballistic. His comment about taking a day is a little bit of a red flag to my way of thinking.
