  1. How does a coach legally land transfers from other programs? Does a player announce that he is going to transfer and is then contacted by coaches, or is his mind usually made up well in advance? Does luck play a huge role in getting transfers? I thought it was interesting that Buchanan helped sell Reggie on SLU as Reggie was considering transfering. It seems like we've had some decent success with transfers: H, Jamal Johnson, etc. Wasn't there a kid (Toomer?) who transferred from Kentucky about the same time that H transferred from UNLV, but who never played for SLU?
  2. I would add Jeff Harris to the list of players who seemed to improve every year.
  3. I'd probably add Fish to that list as well.
  4. Why not get the marketing professors involved in the marketing of the basketball program? They have freakin' PhDs in marketing after all! Wouldn't developing a marketing plan be a great senior-level capstone project? It would be a fun and interesting real world project for the students to work on, and would have tangible results that would benefit the university. Wouldn't it be great to graduate with a degree in marketing from SLU and be able to say that you worked on a project that increased season ticket sales, student attendance, television ratings, etc. and be able to present a potential employer with marketing collateral that you helped to create? Speaking as someone who works in marketing, I can attest that it's not rocket science. Hell, they could hire me as a freelancer and I could do a better job.
  5. Sorry to dwell on this whole Ahearn thing, but would Ahearn have been recruited had Brandon Morris not originally committed to SLU? I realize Ahearn is not a PG, but it's just a thought I had. By the way, Morris is the leading scorer for UW-GB with 11.7 ppg, 4 rebounds pg, 3 assists pg, a 1.2 A/TO ratio, 11 steals and 4 blks. He's shooting 79% from the line and 47% from 3 pt. range. Would have been nice to have him in the lineup, especially with Drejaj's recent struggles.
  6. I agree, but this is a pretty crazy time of year for most people.
  7. If you were a head coach, and your job security hinged on the quality of recruits you bring into your program, would you have recruited Clarke or Ahearn? Do you think Hinson would have taken Clarke over Ahearn? I bet most coaches would have. Hindsight is 20/20.
  8. Add John Seyfert to the list of Romar recruits who left the program.
  9. Agreed. Hopefully Ian and Husak will be capable players, but I'm not counting on it.
  10. What are we going to do with our remaining scholarship? Are we going to use it? Are we still recruiting anyone?
  11. By the way, what was with that shot that Fish took from about six feet beyond the three-point arc in the first half? Was he trying to answer the bomb that Ahearn took earlier? That was a really poor decision.
  12. While last night's effort truly sucked, there's no reason to write off the entire season. Last year we lost to UT-Martin, Houston, SMS and South Florida and still put together a decent season, and we can still recover from last night's loss. We have a good coach and enough talent to win some games, so don't lose hope!
  13. And wouldn't it be great if Darren had a great game on Saturday? I just want that AAU coach to look like a bigger idiot than he already is.
  14. It looks like they just put the official box score up on slubillikens.com, and they have the attendance listed as 7,891. http://slubillikens.ocsn.com/sports/m-bask.../121703aaa.html
  15. IO was the leading scorer, and I think Reggie had 14.
  16. How does everyone think Ahearn will do against the Bills on Saturday? Will he have a chip on his shoulder and shoot the lights out? or Will our stingy defense hold him in check? I think he will have a chip on his shoulder, but we will shut him down anyway.
  17. Ah, I forgot about Izik's dunk. He really had a breakout game tonight, albeit against a very poor team. Let's hope he can bring some confidence into the SMS game!
  18. If I remember correctly, Reggie had two and Sloan one.
  19. They said he's got flu-like symptoms.
  20. Remember during the early Spoonhour years? We'd be lucky to get three dunks in a season!
  21. The reason why there are few replies to your "Why we love SLU" thread is because most of us have the same answer: because we went to college there. I could start a thread on "Why we love ice cream" and even though ice cream is great, I would probably get few responses because almost everyone's answer would be the same: because it tastes good. Apparently, there are many reasons for a person to hate SPUMAC.
