  1. If this was already posted, my apologies, but I don’t think I had seen it here. Nesbitt rankings/predictions from a national recruiting writer. https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/ranking-the-contenders-jordan-nesbitt
  2. If I remember correctly, teams may have a limit to how many games they can play each season, but tournaments/events count differently than if you just scheduled several games. As an example, the Orlando tournament can include 4 games, but may only count for 1 or 2 towards the limit. It’s a loophole to play more games.
  3. Yeah tough break. The year we get into the Big 10, they cancel football. It’s tough being a Bills fan.
  4. I’m assuming you mean that a promoted team has never won the EPL in their first year after promotion? Because I think Leicester City won in their 2nd year, 3rd at most, after promotion. If you’re saying no team that ever had to get promoted to reach the EPL in the Premier League era has won a title, I’d cite Leicester City, and I think Manchester City was relegated and regained promotion at least once in the PL era. I agree though that while it’s an interesting aspect of European leagues, relegation is a very questionable concept in MLS.
  5. Understandable now, but in 2006/7 when I was picking a club, Chelsea and Manchester United would have been the easy ones to pick. I chose Liverpool, or maybe they chose me. A game at Anfield is high on my sports bucket list, but it hasn’t happened yet. Been to one game in Europe...Bayern Munich-Augsburg at the Allianz.
  6. Have you heard something? Or speculating? I had the thought last week that it would be cool if the team incorporated something related to the railroad or trains in its name. The stadium will be right by Union Station and is part of a revitalization of that part of downtown.
  7. That’s my take too. The name falls into the category of names made up to sound tough, edgy, cool, and original, and I don’t like those names generally. If MLS4THELOU went with something like that, I likely wouldn’t like it. Seattle nailed the branding though.
  8. McDermott has been trying to make Legacy happen since the announced the team. For what it’s worth, I think I saw Ben Frederickson of the P-D mention on Twitter that he had heard of a few names that were not the team name, and Legacy was one of those names.
  9. There are some team nicknames in MLS that are good. The ones you mentioned fall in that group. I just don’t want a name like the Montreal Impact or some of the names that have been replaced. Using prior names in St. Louis, I don’t want a name like the Storm, Ambush, or Battlehawks either.
  10. This would be high on my list as well, though I’d prefer Olympique St. Louis. The frequent use of “City Name United/FC” seems bland, but I’d take that every time over some buzzwordy name made up by a marketing agency because they think it sounds cool and modern. I don’t want a team name like the Kansas City Wiz/Wizards, Dallas Burn, or San Jose Clash, which seemingly were created to sound cool, tough, and edgy, and eventually were changed because those names were stupid. In Europe, they use the City Name United/FC thing, and a nickname for the team has developed over time. Liverpool is nicknamed The Reds, but they’re never labeled as the Liverpool Reds. If they name a nickname, I want it something pretty simple like Stars. Otherwise, I’d want the Olympique St. Louis option, or a derivation on the FC/SC/United option using Gateway or another identifier for the region. I’d be ecstatic with St. Louis Rovers, but I know that’s not happening. Names like Legacy, Confluence, and Rhythm don’t excite me. Most importantly, not the St. Louis Archers. That might be the most important thing to me.
  11. Is the announcement to announce the name, or is the announcement to confirm the one year delay, with the name, colors, and crest to be announced at a later date?
  12. As kind of a piggyback onto this, my sister makes cloth masks. I’m certain that if Billikens fabric existed, I would have a Billikens mask now. She also makes fleece blankets out of material she can get from fabric stores. She has been making these for more than 5 years with various designs including a wide variety of pro and college sports teams, and Billikens fabric just became available in January. From an apparel and licensing perspective, SLU has been bad for as long as I can remember.
  13. I’ve been very intrigued by cord cutting, as I primarily have Directv for live sports. Almost everything else I watch is on Hulu, Netflix, Disney +, etc. The problem is that even though I have AT&T Fiber internet, live sports come in kind of janky. It’s like the connection can’t keep up with the stream. During Covid, with no live sports until the return of European soccer, I just downgraded by Directv package to save money. I’ll bump it up whenever we get more sports back and I want to watch them.
  14. I’m watching the 1998 game against Kansas. One of Justin Love’s first games for SLU. Man, he was so good.
  15. I’m going to have to watch that Cincy game. I’ve never seen it. I was in high school and it was a day game. I heard in between classes that SLU was winning because one teacher was a diehard SLU fan and turned the game on during class and my friends in his class told me. I couldn’t sit still during the last class of the day and made a run for a computer as soon as school ended.
  16. I firmly believe that French with an at all credible mid-range game is an NBA player.
  17. I’m ready to run through a brick wall after reading this.
