  1. It's either Purdue or Illinois--most likely Purdue.
  2. http://midstatehoops.com/v5/?cat=14 or http://www.chicagohoops.com/articles1/beane.html more http://ilprepbullseye.com/page44.html I have no idea whether or not SLU is recruiting any of these guys, but I would think that they're at least on the radar..........
  3. A friend from down under sent this to me. Sorry I can't provide a link since he just sent the text. Braves re-sign Meyer 15 Jul, 2010 04:00 AM SYMES Motors Bendigo Braves star American import Luke Meyer has re-signed with the club for the 2011 SEABL season. Meyer, who hails from New Haven in Missouri, will re-join the team after a standout 2010 season. The former Saint Louis College basketballer has averaged 19.4 points and six rebounds per game with the Braves this season. Meyer has not only been a success on the court for the Braves. He has been heavily involved in community activities off the court as well as hosting junior basketball clinics. The 24-year-old, who joined the Braves after a stint with the Geraldton Buccaneers in Western Australia's State Basketball League, said he has really enjoyed his time at the Braves. "I've really enjoyed getting involved with the community," he said. "I've just enjoyed hanging out with the team and really getting to know them this year and I've grown really close to them." Meyer added the re-signing of coach Ben Harvey also played a part in his decision to stay. "One of the big factors in coming back is that Ben Harvey is also coming back next year," he said. "I think our chances of winning this year are very good. We've got all the pieces we need to be successful. "We had two big wins on the weekend and with four games to go we're definitely on the right track." Harvey said signing Meyer on for another season is a major coup for the Bendigo team. "We're very happy to have Luke signed on for 2011," Harvey said. "He's been a big part of our success this year. We're really looking forward to Luke going to that next level next year." Meyer will return home to the US after this season to marry his long-time girlfriend Jill, who is expected to join Meyer in Bendigo next year. Talks are still being held with the Braves other American import Ivan McFarlin, who the club hopes to re-sign for the 2011 season in the coming weeks.
  4. It might be a good thing to get at least one top-25 recruiting class before we proclaim ourselves to be a top-10 team...................
  5. \\ Perry showed a lot of athleticism. Both rebounded and handled the ball well. Played with a lot of intensity. Didn't show much of a shot, but I suppose everybody has off-nights shooting the ball. In my opinion the best player on the floor was Carleton Guyton. That being said, my opinion doesn't mean all that much.
  6. Thought it was interesting to see Ben Howland (UCLA) and assistants from both Arizona and Oregon at the MAC/Logan game last night. Not sure exactly who they were there to see. I haven't seen any of the SLU coaches at games this year.
  7. Doesn't score a lot, but he's a rebounding machine. Still uncommitted for next year. Visiting WIU today, but is uncommitted. Would SLU have any interest, or is he not RM's type of player?
  8. Add one more weekend to the process. Divide the country into four geographic regions. Select 32 teams from each region, then seed the teams within each region. After the weekend games, seed the final 32 (NOT by region this time), and finish the tourney. This gives everyone a geographic rooting interest. It ensures that the very best from each region advances (assuming they really are the very best), and it includes every team in the country that realistically has any hope at all of winning a post-season game. Travel costs would be significantly reduced for the first weekend, and fans would have a great chance to follow their teams to first and second round sites. Officials would also come from each region, advancing based on the quality of their work. The entire country gets representation in a regional, every legitimate team has a chance to play, and the revenue generated would be significant.
  9. Sorry if this has been discussed already--I haven't been getting on here very often lately. Anybody know much about him? Are the Billikens recruiting him? He's visiting Illinois Saturday for "The World's Largest Basketball Practice." Considering the quality of the recruits that Weber has lined up for the next few years, I'm guessing he's a player who could help SLU.
  10. The last time I talked to Jeremy (May), he was more focused on the 2008/09 season than on where he's headed post-MAC. He a great kid who had a wonderful year last year both on and off the court.
  11. You've caught a lot of grief from some of the vocal minority, but speaking olnly for myself, I appreciate your contributions over the past few days. Agree with much of what you've said, have a couple disagreements, and find nothing you've said to be invalid or offensive. Those who feel differently have the option of ignoring your posts. I hope you revisit us on a regular basis.
  12. According to this article (last paragraph) SLU and Pepperdine have offered E.J. Singler........... basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=799390
  13. I don't think there's any question that Martin can get players. What he does with those players is the great unknown. I think he'll be an excellent x and o guy, but he still has to prove it.
  14. ......is leaving Purdue. Rumor has him transferring to Valpo. Apparently his father is very Kevin Slaten-like...............
  15. .....from an admitted UCLA fan. Can't say that anything surprises me here............at least he doesn't claim to have a no-tolerance policy. http://cornellsun.com/node/29581
  16. Fair enough and certainly a logical conclusion. But I ain't buyin' it. BTW, I recanted "naive". Perhaps I should have simply said that we shouldn't always accept what appears to be..............although I will grant that "what appears to be" is more often than not the way things actually are.
  17. My choice of the word "naive" was unfortunate. I didn't intend to offend. St. Louis area publicity doesn't really matter much to WIU. There are a few hundred kids from Madison and St. Clair counties attending the school, and a few dozen from the Missouri side, but the St. Louis area doesn't have much of a presence up there. Over 60% of their students are from the Chicago area, with most of the remainder from West Central Illinois. With regards to recruiting, they're at the bottom of the barrel anyway, so how could the fact that they followed the rules and asked that their recruited athletes do the same be a negative? Color me a cynic when it comes to the media, but this looks like a classic case of claiming credit for doing nothing. (to my knowledge Bernie hasn't claimed credit, but he certainly knows that many people will give it to him--whether earned or not). We can agree to disagree on this one.
  18. "Bernie was the catalyst for this. " I think it's naive to think that Bernie had anything to do with this. Organizations don't make overnight decisions based on columns from out-of-town papers. And trust me, St. Louis is out-of-town and simply an afterthought to the good people of Macomb. The only big-city media that matters up there is from Chicago. The most likely scenario is that Bernie got wind of the decision to release Josh and wrote a column in an attempt to make himself appear to be the "catalyst". Or, if one or more of the "former" SLU players end up at WIU, and Harrelson comes to SLU, the "conspiracy theory" I set forth a couple weeks ago suddenly takes legs.................JK
  19. My mistake. I know that qualifiers out of high school can leave JUCOs after only one year, but I was under the impression that qualifiers who signed LOIs had to either complete two years or receive a release from the school with which they had signed. Another conspiracy theory shot down!
  20. Wouldn't it be interesting if a couple of the kids who are said to be leaving the program ended up transfering to WIU? That announcement might be followed by a release of Josh Harrelson from his "obligation"? I have absolutely no knowledge of anything along these lines happening, but I do love conspiracy theories.............
  21. Doc, I understand your loyalty to IU, but I think a couple things might warrant your attention. First, although not foremost, is the fact that this is exactly what got Sampson into deep kimchee in Oklahoma. No way he didn't understand that this wasn't allowed. The fact that he thumbed his nose at the NCAA was possibly enough to turn it into a major violation, but when he lied about it (again, as he had done in Oklahoma) they had no choice but to elevate it. Although in our judicial system "innocent until proven guilty" is the assumption, that doesn't apply here, for a couple reasons. This isn't a legal matter. No laws were broken, just an organization's rules. Even if it were a matter of breaking the law, my take is that IU admitted guilt when they self-imposed sanctions. They wouldn't impose sanctions on themselves had there been no wrongdoing. Unfortunately for IU, this is quite possibly just the tip of the iceberg. Everybody is talking about the phone calls, but the findings also included illegal gifts (nothing major--a backpack and some shirts). Little things often lead to major penalties. Remember that after all the posturing about Deon Thomas and the Blazer, the only thing UI was penalized for was a $10 pizza, and the penalties were quite stiff. It has been reported that both Greenspan and the law firm that represents the IU athletic department have been less than cooperative. I have no way of knowing whether or not that's true, but often, where there's smoke.............. IU's self-imposed penalties, although an attempt to show contrition, have been less than toothless. They denied Sampson $500k. That certainly doesn't hurt IU--quite the opposite. They took a scholarship away from the team for one year. A scholarship that was not going to be used because the player who had originally signed to receive that scholarship had been arrested for selling dope and the scholly had been rescinded. Nobody else of any quality was in the pipeline, so effectively this simply was a way of banking the scholarship. They fired an assistant coach and denied him his bonus. Sampson tried to scapegoat an assistant at OU, too. All this accomplished was saving IU even more money on top of the $500k. If the NCAA didn't see through these sanctions, they're less competant than I thought, and I don't hold them in the highest regard. The only reason Sampson hasn't been fired yet is because IU fears that they'll be sued just like Ohio State. OSU lost that lawsuit even after O'Brien admitted to his cheating. When all is said and done, I'll be shocked if either Sampson or Greenspan are at IU next year.
  22. Bennigton was never the head coach at UI. I don't think he was ever an assistant there, either. If I recall correctly (not always the case per my wife), he left SLU for Marquette.
  23. There are strong rumors coming from Lexington that Alex Legion is going to transfer. The Billikens could certainly use an athletic 6'5" shooting guard who was a top-50 rated player coming out of H.S. I have no idea whether or not he's even heard of SLU, but he's certainly an intriguing athlete. Questions for the board: Is the A-10 a big enough stage for him? Could the Majerus name/magic be enough for him to at least consider a transfer to SLU? Would you even WANT a player that only stays with his team through the first handful of games his freshman season? Remember, this is a kid who originally verballed to Michigan but changed to Kentucky when the coaching carousel was in full throttle. For my money, I would take a flyer on him. If anybody can handle him, it's Majerus. He would be eligible the second semester next year, and wouldn't an athletic scorer look awfully good alongside TL, KL and the incoming class?
  24. no need to apologize for something you didn't do.
