  1. His team mate Ammari Monroe is also in the Portal. 1st Team all MAAC. Might not be a CJS type as he only hits 27.5% from 3 but he gets steals and hits FTs. From NY so going to A10 he'll get to play close to home. Just in case Otieno needed a friend.
  2. I agree the NET needs to be changed. However, conference records should not be a metric used. -Conferences are not equal -Conferences don't all schedule the same, so even if they were equal the results still wouldn't be Therefore, it is not a useful metric for how good a team is relative to other teams in other Conferences. Is the committees job to put the best teams in the tournament? Yes, but it is also entertainment and if non P5 Conferences are squeezed out that undermines the entertainment. Therefore, they need to find a way that is objective. This is not it. The logical conclusion of your argument is to limit the tournament to only conference winners, 31 team tournament.
  3. Not sure how this is related, besides a personal shot at where I live for some reason. Perhaps because I challenged the emotional reasoning regarding conference records. Also Texas did win the 2005 Football National Championship in the Rose Bowl over USC. Some call it the greatest CFB Championship game ever.
  4. According to KenPom Anya's block% is 3.7 ranks 336 and Otieno is 7.1 ranks 70. So there's a difference. Here's another difference: Otieno 31 games, 31 3P attempts, 12 made .387 Anya 32 games, 2 of 15 3PA for .133. At Brown the year prior he was 8 for 30. So perhaps we'll see Otieno take more 3s. I hope he doesn't take less like we saw with Anya.
  5. NIL is a big factor but it's outside the coach's control. He has influence on it but not control. Roster construction was a problem but maybe exacerbated by injuries. I thought it was an A based on bringing in 2 all conference players. We've gotten some good transfers before Bess, Perkins but have we brought in 2 high caliber at the same time?
  6. I don't understand what point you're trying to make about 2nd place mid-major teams doing just as well in the tournament. Making conference records matter in determining at large bids when there is a complete disparity in the quality of conferences is not an objective measure. Conference records matter for seeding for a tournament to get an automatic bid. Conference records as Ws and Ls matter when feeding into other metrics accounted for in different rankings. Comparing the conference records of teams not in the same conference is a pointless exercise. It doesn't provide the data necessary to determine which team is better. Central Connecticut was 14-2, and Arkansas was 8-10. I'm going out on a limb, and I'll say Arkansas is a better team.
  7. The season is now over, and we can look back and grade it. Grades on a scale of A to F. I propose grading the following areas: 1. Recruiting: a. HS/JUCO b. Transfers 2. Coaching a. Record I) Non-Conference II) Conference a. Tactical: I) Offense II) Defense b. Player Development 3. Other a. Media Handling b. Community Outreach/Booster Engagement OVERALL GRADE Weight the areas as you see fit (up for discussion). 1. Recruiting: A a. HS/JUCO: B 2025 Cameron Hutson (3.69 score on Verbal Commits); Luke Lackzcowski (3.64); Jax Kerr (3.53) While we didn't beat out any big-time schools for these recruits, they appear solid and a fit for the system. 2024 McCottry 3.41; Warlick 3.89; Max Pikaar 3.77 we beat some comparable schools for these recruits and they appear to have good upside and contributed this season. b. Transfers: A Robbie Avila all conference 2nd team; Isaiah Swope all conference 3rd team; Kobe Johnson; Kalu Anya, Kobe Johnson and A.J. Casey. All were key contributors and two were all conference. Only 1 didn't see the court. 2. Coaching Results: C a. Record: D 19-15; 120 Ken Pom, improvement by 79 places from last season (13-20 overall); 14-3 at home; Ken Pom 108 SoS I) Non-Conference D 8-8 (kenpom 186 SoS) II) Conference C+ 11-7, 5 Seed, a. Tactical: B The offense did what it's designed to do create high % shots and SLU was #1 in conference in 2P% at 60.6% and 56.3% in eFG% #1 in A10, #16 in the Nation. The defense started slow and then began to click after non-conference. It is not effective at creating turnovers, and it gives up offensive rebounds. I) Offense: C+ Ken Pom Adj Eff 130, 6th in conference II) Defense C+ Ken Pom Adj Eff 136, 4th in conference b. Player Development B Gibson benefitted from the system. Avila did not adjust as well as we hoped to the step up in competition. Swope was streaky but could score on anyone. Johnson was inconsistent but effective at times. The players mostly played smart within the system and did not panic when down. 3. Other B a. Media Handling: I think he's great in interviews and post-game. He's compelling and funny. Overall: C+ The team appears headed in a better direction but did not perform relative to expectations.
  8. The focus on conference records is wrong. While Auburn and Mercyhurst are both D1 college basketball teams, they exist in different universes. Going above .500 in the Northeast Conference doesn't mean anything objectively compared to going .500 or less in the SEC. If conference records are a standard, should Conference tournament winners with a conference record below .500 be excluded from autobids? What is the purpose of the NCAA Basketball tournament? To crown a champion, but it's also entertainment. The entertainment aspect may necessitate changes in how bids are allocated to allow for greater participation across the college basketball landscape. I think that could be made into an objective process that uses a computer rating system different from the NET. It can be tweaked to reduce the current advantage of power conferences, which is the focus on Quad 1 and 2 records.
  9. His upside is all conference. So I'm willing to keep that lottery ticket. Now a smart coach isn't just relying on him but if you build a good roster and he's also healthy?! That's a big time impact.
  10. Kinda seems that way. Lost his AD, burned bridges by criticizing the level of support he was getting (perhaps with a job offer in hand). He wanted to spend an extra night in NYC with the team to celebrate Christmas and was told it was too expensive. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6223993/2025/03/23/kevin-willard-maryland-villanova-ncaa-tournament/%23:~:text%3D%E2%80%9CI%20wanted%20to%20spend%20an,York%20because%20it's%20too%20expensive.%E2%80%9D&ved=2ahUKEwjmmNesyq-MAxVxKEQIHZNYICIQFnoECCEQBQ&usg=AOvVaw2bG6YXGx-H_qWXD66jsEbU Even big successful schools have issues.
  11. 68 teams getting in devalued the conference schedule and it will probably be expanded adding more P5 spots. Sadly this seems to be the same path the CFP is on. I think someone maybe it was 05 was onto it with the point that the focus on Quad 1 wins is the culprit. The NET isn't helping non P5. RPI seemed better. You can't blame Conferences and schools for looking out for their best interests. These big schools spend a lot and are looking for ROI. We need non-P5 to work together and push back by looking out for our interests. Change the selection criteria and find a way to get non-conference games scheduled.
  12. Sadly (for me) I think it's to IU. No smoke on him to UT on Horns247. Does he even know that Tatum attended a SLU game? Or that the Champions Center has Nature Valley Granola bars on the breakfast buffet that you can just take? The chewy ones too not the crumble everywhere kind. Man I need some portal news.
  13. I've seen message board posts saying Conwell has a "do not contact" does that mean he's following Miller, going to Indiana or M. Night Shamalan twist.... rejoining his former coach Schertz.
  14. Yeah I don't know. Sounds about right. Just speculation on what we have to spend. It is apparent to me that the BVF has decided to only utilize big time donors and not solicit smaller donations. Despite donating last year I've received no communications from BVF. So I can only hope those donors give enough. I don't understand why they don't simply email a donor list. The hard part is building that list, cooperate with the school and you have a list of potential donors. Hard part done. Then use mail chimp, constant contact any # of pretty inexpensive services to ask for a donation. But what do I know? Their methods are working really well so far. Edit: update I'm kind of a big deal, not to brag but Coach Sean Miller just emailed me. Sent this video: Does the Champions Center have wifi? Or are they waiting on Novelly to sponsor it? Once they get wifi they should maybe do some things like this that you know engage fans/donors at a time when their support is needed more than ever. Or they could continue recording AD led podcasts on a potato and share those.
  15. Yeah I was going to say I've heard no Conwell to Texas chatter but it just started this morning. We're very unlikely to win that one. I'm not sure what we have available on NIL. I think many numbers you hear for players are exaggerated. I'd guess ballpark GJ was $300k, Swope $250, RA $300-400K and a Conwell type would be $500-1mil. So if our NIL budget is approx $2mil. We have 2 current openings. Most of the listed competitors aren't traditional powers for many of the D2 players we're linked to. Could hold what we got and go all in on 2 splash transfers. But we're more likely to see another departure out or 2 and go value D2 players that fit the system and are in budget.
  16. They'd kill for an Applebee's in Venezuela right now. I'm surprised they're still running a league and he could get a visa. He had trouble with women in the US,Venezuela is on another level. Watch out Willie.
  17. Also this is solely one conference and one seasons worth of data (# of major transfers to lower levels). Those trying to conflate it with the current state of the tournament that too is only one tournament. It may yet become a trend that is related but I think drawing conclusions right now is premature.
  18. Exactly. Many don't realize that the SEC and BIG10 just dared the College Football Playoff Committee to not give into them, they were so close to breaking off and forming their own Football championship last year. Some connected sources reported that they believed the SEC/B10 wanted to break away. But the CFP committee acquised and the playoffs will change after next season. This is the same, if anyone thinks he the richest most powerful schools are going to let the BE get a competitive advantage on them they're crazy. Also it doesn't align with other court cases regarding NIL. The NCAA even pushing this is just them continuing to commit slow suicide. SLU might be more competitive doing revenue sharing because our booster base maybe more comfortable giving to the school and it being tax exempt. We'll still need an NIL, and I fear our collective might not be up to the task.
  19. That's not true there's worse. I'm pretty sure he wears his baseball hats correctly. So that's something.
  20. Hey man ya got any of those transfers?
  21. I see 5 seasons for Cam'ron, UK, FSU, FSU, FSU, and X. He peaked season 2 at FSU. His stats at X are: PTS 1.3 REB 1.q AST 0.3 FG% 83.3 6'7, 230 lbs So I can guarantee Texas won't be after him. Not sure he'd help.
  22. Even #1 SEC seeds getting screwed 1PM start is criminal.
  23. For those into the good ol' days here's a sweet clip of Miller the player feeding Lane at Pitt, Rafferty on the call.
