  1. Hazelwood Central by 17 over Zumwalt West. St. Chas West by 23 over Eureka Webster by 32 over Parkway Central CBC by 26 over Lindbergh DeSmet by 12 over Parkway West Marquette by 16 over Lafayette Troy by 30 over U City. Some of the first round games were not as close as the score indicates. Quarters and semis should be much more competitive games.
  2. jj.... Answer: yes, the kids know it's "coach talk"! Again, "CAN" is the key word that you continue to ignore. One of the modern-day negatives when any college or pro coach/manager talks to the media is that some fans and talk-show hosts will nit-pick or twist everything the coach or manager says. But, that's why they get the big bucks!
  3. jj........the key to the quote is "Kevin CAN be"..... I guess Soderberg could have said "I think Kevin can be the 2nd best, 5th best, 10th best, 13th best, or 20th best player in the A-10 over time". Pick a number....what would you have said? Remember its "coach talk"!
  4. Yes, I have a doubt about the girls tournament at Meramec! For depth of quality girls teams I would hit the Mascoutah 16 team tournament.
  5. If it hasn't changed in 2 years.....St. Mary's gym seats about 3,000. The place should generate a real home-court advantage. Some booster club members sit in theater-type seats in the mezzanine beyond the basket closest to the home team's bench. One would think the Gonzaga tickets go at a premium.
  6. cheese said, " I have never said that SLU has stacked recruiting classes....which is my point". Well no ###### Sherlock! That's your point? And you don't think knowledgeable, long-time SLU bball fans don't know that? Please!
  7. if they are academically eligible, they can practice from day one.
  8. in what years did SLU "stack" good recruiting classes? please go back to the late 50's or early 60's if you can. (imo, the reason SLU has been overall medicore for 50+ years is that the recruiting has not been at a consistently high level....its not major science) luke does not score on all of his drives to the basket....nor did highmark! TL and KL make layups as well! you are getting silly again suggesting that someone stated they would be happy to have a Luke type PF all of the time. However, LM is what we have this season and all of your harping won't change that. my expectations are as high as any realistic SLU fan. it amazes me that some think they are the only ones with high expectation.....again your silliness. reconsider your donations if you are a frontrunner.....keep or increase your donations if you truly love SLU and what its student-athletes stand for!
  9. if you don't appreciate LM's skill base and intangibles.... and LM plays well.....one might say that LM is "playing over his head". if you can appreciate LM's skill base and intangibles.... and LM plays well.....one might say that LM is maximizing his god-given talents. if you don't like LM you state that "he doesn't have a mid-range jumper". if you look at the stats thru 12 games you will see that LM is SLUs leading FG shooter, leading FT shooter and the leading mid-range shooter (FG less 3pters). you don't have to be Marty Blake to recognize that SLU has failed to recruit a legit PF at the defensive end for the 2006-07 season. LM defending the other teams PF may cost SLU the A-10 post-season tournament and an NCAA bid, but LM is our best/only chance!
  10. imo, the defensive trapping by UNC perimeter players emphasized that SLU's guards, while very good, are not physically big enough or strong enough to handle the trapping pressure employed by some of the nation's top perimeter players. SLU's perimeter players couldn't respond to UNC perimeter players.
  11. PHOG, I always leave the bashing and hating to you....it's your specialty. Your post was about recruiting. I pointed out a key post recruit, and about fans enjoying the current season and being concerned about future recruiting all at the same time. BH is a bright, hard-working student-athlete. He is aware that with two senior post-players gratuating after this season that those same positions will be filled and that he will have to continue to work hard to earn significant minutes in 2007-08.
  12. PHOG, some Billiken fans can do both.....enjoy the current 9-3 record and at the same time recognize that for next year SLU needs more really good players. Ian is a senior....that means he won't play next year. Hopefully, his replacement was sitting three rows behind the SLU bench last night. Some fans can enjoy Ian's play this season and at the same time know that he will be sorely missed next season. Some fans only fret that rain is in tomorrow's forecast.....and can't enjoy today's sunshine. Some people aren't happy unless they are unhappy!
  13. again, welcome to the board ......thanks for the comment on the three losses.....insightful.
  14. always get a few new posters after a loss.......
  15. kappy....what offense would you run this season?
  16. welcome to the board....why the delay in joining all the fun?
  17. f0, evidently, SMS couldn't handle two tough defensive teams. you need to get that corrected before the MVC post-season tournament gets here.
  18. f0....so what's your problem with SIU, they seem to be doing pretty good?
  19. today, Luke has the best FG shooting percentage on the team at .478 take out his sorry 1 for 8 from the 3pt line and he is shooting .512 (42 for 82) from mid-range to the rim. yes, he gets driving layups, but he also misses driving layups. DP, TL and LM are shooting significantly better thru 12 games this season than they did for the entire 2005-06 season. her's some stats. TL 2005-06 FG%=.408 3PT=.095 FT=.629 TL 2006-07 FG%=.436 3PT=.433(amazing improvement) FT.717 DP 2005-06 FG%=.328 3PT=.174 FT=.633 DP 2006-07 FG%=.420 3PT=.297 FT=.750 LM 2005-06 FG%=.328 3PT=.233 FT=.828 LM 2006-07 FG%=.478 3PT=.125 FT=.808 Can only assume KL injured hand has played a role in his lower current season results. KL 2005-06 FG%=.446 3PT=.414 FT=.719 KL 2006-07 FG%=.430 3PT=.358 FT=.770
  20. 1) without question, SLU needs more quality depth, 2) plus our guards need more strength, unfortunately they (DP,KL,TL,DB) may be more middle-weights by nature. DP was giving up 35+ pounds to his counterpart on UNC (Lawson?). SLU was outmuscled on the perimeter at Texas A&M as well. Guard strength may not be an issue in the A-10, but it is proving to be a serious disadvantage against the big boys!
  21. all freshmen get 20hrs a week to impress the coach staff and to earn real minutes in a game. The mop up minute at the end game means very little to nothing. When a freshman has earned minutes he will get first-half minutes or minutes early in the second-half. The freshman needs minutes with four other starters to have a chance at success.....playing with three walk-ons will unlikely give you a chance to impress anyone.
  22. we could use another quality guard today! In addition, SLU practices are hurting because there isn't a legit pt guard on the reserve unit to make things meaningful.....DP,KL, TL are always with the first five.
  23. Reality....four all-metros and a Greek can't beat eight or nine mcdonald all-americans! I enjoyed the first-half, but when the talented and deep UNC came out in the second-half with increased intensity.... SLU couldn't keep up. IV can play with the ACC big boys. Great crowd....great pay-day! I seen an important juco recruit behind the SLU bench, hopefully he realizes he could step right in and play!
