  1. The putrid dairy coop that I worked for had their office at Elliott Bay and we watched the July 4th fireworks from the office rooftop a couple years. The San Juan Islands are another OK place for you to visit. I had an encounter with a bald eagle who swooped down about 10 ft. from where I sat to eat the salmon that we had used as bait for catching dungeness crab.
  2. Generally speaking I thought that Smith sucked as a pro and IMHO it had everything to do with him and no one else.
  3. For consistency purposes, if we refer to Ian as Zorba...then Izik could be Fidler for Fidler on the Roof!
  4. mws26, If you ever drive in the Edmonds area then go to Picnic Point and that is where we lived. Many of the houses are right on the bluff looking out onto Puget Sound. Our house was a couple blocks from the bluff. Lots of things to see in Pacific NW. Vancouver is a beautiful city. I liked Portland, OR too. The Oregon coast line is awesome and I saw the whale that was in the Free Willie movies before he got moved. For what it was worth, none of us thought Keiko (whales real name) looked very healthy so we were happy when they moved him to his original home. You will want to see Victoria, BC and be sure to do Buschart (SP?) Gardens while you are there and of course the high tea at the Empress. Nothing in the Pacific NW was more impressive to me than to see Mt Rainier on a perfectly sunny day... simply awesome sight!
  5. If we don't get Shaw and I don't believe that we are...then we have the luxxury to play the season, see what we have, and what our top need will be for '04-'05. I'd bet that we will have at least one and possibly two options for each position.
  6. I saw enough of that KY game while waiting at Lambert to catch a plane to realize that no one player was going to beat them that day. Even as good as the Legend was that year, he wasn't about to beat KY all by himself, so what does that prove in the grand scheme of things???
  7. I'm not the skier so I defer to my wife who has been to the Colorado resorts but not to Taos. She prefers Whistler over any of the Colorado resorts. Whistler is still a bargain with the currency difference between US and Canada. It was a steal back in the days we traveled there.
  8. I still have a few friends who live in Seattle, so I know that they had both a dry and warm summer. Keep in mind, the majority of homes in Seattle do not have AC, so if the Temps get in the upper 80's to low 90's for any period of time, people get a little testy and start hoping for rain. True Seattlelites love the rain and think that is the way it should be...IMHO that's crazy, as we worship the sun.
  9. Our house was in Edmonds, WA not very far from Everett. Our house had a view of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mtns. when it wasn't rainy or cloudy. Our two favorite getaways were Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast and Whistler, BC for skiing. Of course Whistler is one of the top ski resorts in Canada and will be used extensively when Vancouver hosts the Winter Games. Florida was our life long goal and Tampa-St. Pete was our favorite...we knew zero about Palm Harbor in N. Pinellas county but the schools are better and that was our deciding point with two teens that had to get through school.
  10. John did leave SLU for Michigan State.
  11. Welcome Almeda Bob, Don't be bashful about contributing to the Billiken fan website. The more the merrier.
  12. If you harken back to what Brad supposedly said most recently...I will sign 3 in November with the 4th in April. If that is true then my hunch is that Shaw is SIU bound and we have some other recruits in mind for the last scholie. This would also give Coach Soderberg another season to evaluate what he has and what next year's needs are. P Diddy...are they saying anyhint different on the streets?
  13. I am sure what we did not see was the sweet looking coed that Steve was surely trying to impress.
  14. It's really cool reading where everyone is from and what they have done since SLU days. Amazing to see people who didn't even graduate from SLU who now are big fans. I find that pretty cool.
  15. davidlee, I also grew up in Dogtown and went to St. James the Greater...graduated from Augustinian Academy in '67. I am guessing that we know each other? Small world.
  16. Sludaddy, We are very happy to have your son on our team, and hope that he enjoys himself at SLU. I think that he is playing for a very good Coach and I am expecting to see good things from Byrce...best of luck to him in his Billiken career.
  17. Lobo, Funny even though I was a kid back then...I remember the incident of Bennington being hung in effigy over that OSU game back in the days of Jerry Lucas as I recall. You are correct about John Bennington. He was as I remember a devout Catholic and he was in St. Lukes parish which was blocks away from my old parish, St. James the Greater.
  18. Gister, You raised an interesting point in that the Bills had two hall of fame baseball announcers do their games. I also remember listening to Harry Caray do the Bills game, as did Jack Buck. Skip Caray also had a stint doing the Billiken games before he did the St. Louis Hawks. I still remember fondly listening to Harry do games with the likes of former Billken players like Bob Ferry and Bevo Nordmann.
  19. Ries who was the red head did play for the Bills...I don't remember that Dangos went to SLU.
  20. There you go...Willie makes an excellent point as some of the regulars like him better than Grimes if that tells you anything...Grimes is a higher rated player...that is why I don't particularly think a lot of ratings...no one can tell me what is in a kids heart. I do have a question about Shaw's true height. What is it and I assume that he is what 16-17 yrs old, so he could be 6'8" before he is finished growing???
  21. I don't know how highly he is rated. I leave that to people who check those websites out like 3 star and BRoy. However, IMO he would certainly fill out a need for another inside player especially considering that Chris Sloan will be graduating. From everything that I have read about Shaw, he is a solid player.
