  1. i truly dont understand the attraction the coaches like seth greenburg, fat pat kennedy or calipari or $nyder. i would love to sit in on their interview/presentations to hear how they can influence a.d.'s to overlook their worthlessness.
  2. i didnt get to the game as hoped last night as my daughter's team has made it to the championship game of a tourney they are in and the semi's were last night. so i sent my scout, my son. said centralia double and triple teamed kevin the entire night and kevin had to work like crazy to get shots. only made 3 of 17. still because of his superior free throw shooting, he ended up with 17 points. my son said shaw has put on muscle like crazy and was spectacular. brought the ball up the floor against the press, then went inside and did everything else. that is saying a lot, considering centralia has nice guards as well that the coach believes matt is still the best player to have the ball against althoff's swarming defense. shaw ended up with 24 points and 20+ rebounds and was outstanding. we missed out on a really nice player here folks. i only question had brad not wasted the first half of the summer chasing the underachieving grimes would shaw have become a billiken? instead, i am sure siu coach used that "second choice" negative recruiting angle to sway matt to carbondale. imo, this is brad's biggest recruiting slip to date. next week the belleville east tourney starts. it will be tuesday, friday and saturday nite. it is a conference challenge format where belleville east, belleville west and o'fallon represent the southwest conference and belleville althoff, centralia and carbondale represent the south 7 conference. each team plays a game versus one of the opposing conference teams each nite of the tourney. thus you are guaranteed to see each of the teams in each night's triple header. they have scheduled althoff vs belleville west for the last game on saturday night. better come early, they were turning away fans last night for the west vs east game. west being ranked fifth in the state and althoff 10th and carbondale and centralia getting votes as well guarantee that the place will be packed each night.
  3. that is pitiful. and please schasz, correct me if i am wrong, but isnt south florida like one of the largest universities in the southwest? 30k in students or something like that? my point is, it isnt like they are some small private school in the middle of nowhere. south florida is a huge beautiful campus right there in tampa florida. yet it appears the show schedule of busch gardens gets more media than it's neighbor.
  4. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/co...s+moving+to+D.C. the above link is dan ceasar's story today detailing more channel 5 decisions. frank will remain and continue to be co-host to sports plus. basically everything stays the same for him. this is good for billiken fans, as frank is our biggest tv and radio ally. i feared if he went to radio exclusively, that would have really cut us off from the casual fan. so if frank is happy, i am elated. kelli johnson, who had shown she had no respect for the billikens, has been banished to the d.c. area for some cable outlet. good. i will never forget one of her appearances on kfns with frank where frank was asking the quick yes no answers that has become somewhat of an interview trademark of his. frank's question was, "will the billikens with brad soderberg as the head coach ever win 20 games in a season?" johnson's reply, "no" f her. i hope we never hear or see her again. of course most of the cardinal and ram players apparently will miss her terribly.
  5. tonka, i cant think of a worse cyber insult than to be compared or mistaken for too. my deepest sympathy.
  6. sorry you missed the sarcasm. i put the little wink after the statement to show it was a joke. ;-) mainly posted it in an effort to get a rise out of our friend billiken law. if you have been reading my posts, i have been touting southern miss as one of the second tier teams (along with saint louis, uab, marquette, and memphis) all along.
  7. i do have to say that is prob the best slu72 story we KNOW of.
  8. that the billiken loss at milwaukee doesnt come back to haunt us at season end. just a terrible loss for us. ;-)
  9. read this quote in a columbia tribune article discussing why jason conley, the wing guard that missouri stole from vmi, that is hardly playing right now for the tigers. "Snyder has said that Conley’s dwindling minutes are the result of his poor defense." judging by how horrible the entire team plays defense, how bad can this guy be? my gosh .
  10. sadly, i am missing this year as my lovely wife and naticat's fiancee have us booked on a cruise that week. when will women get it. i trust you and tom will of course keep the natives under control for us though. i do believe taj will be there this year. please buy him a beer as his wife controls the purse and will probably not give him enough spending money to hardly exist that week.
  11. that is the game i was thinking of as well. memphis for honoring isaac.
  12. you never sent me any sauce. but please feel free! i love the montgomery inn. a trip to cincy would be incomplete without the visit. great atmosphere as well. and while the downtown location has the awesome river view, i think the one in the burbs is actually a better restaurant. but both are excellent. that said, i will take memphis barbq anyday over anywhere in the world. btw, when playing at world softball tourney in cincy about 10 years ago, myself and few teamates decided we needed to sample the reknown skyline chilli. huge disappointment. i wouldnt feed it to dogs. you can buy better in a can at most grocers. i would rather eat wendy's chilli than skyline and that aint saying much.
  13. i think so miss has as much of a chance as marquette, saint louis, memphis, and uab. only cincy and louisville seem to be standing out and above. i will hand you that i consider uab the leader of that second pack of dogs.
  14. the after the fact passage of the law is not good enough. rodeo commish should have been able to see the writing on the wall of this one a mile away and squashed it from moment one not ok now, but never again.
  15. dont bring me in on your food deals! gruehls did steve send you your shirt? wear it proudly at all the bearcat games. :-) i am working hard at converting naticat to the world of billikens. he has been a number of spectacular billiken games already since his move to st louis. surely it wont be long before he is hooked on the rollercoaster ride of the billikens.
  16. the current slu media guide has a picture of coach soderberg amongst chris braun, marque perry, drew diener and kenny brown. all are wearing their graduation gowns and the caption reads, "billiken head coach brad soderberg with 2003 graduates chris braun, marque perry, drew diener and kenny brown." also on the same page there is a list of the players from the 90's and under kenny's name it is stated he graduated with a degree in criminal justice and is playing professionally in portugal. the following players are listed as degreed: seke, chris brown, kenny brown, donnie campbell, erwin claggett, drew diener, dave ferguson, corey grays, jeff harris, scott highmark, jamal johnson, eric jones, marcus jones, justin love, ryan luechtefeld, rahid malik, carlos mccauley, evan pederson, marque perry, john redden, troy robertson, david robinson, carlos shadow, larry simmons, h waldman, and jamal walker. those without degrees (or at least not claimed in the guide)matt baniak, virgel cobbin, donnie dobbs, corey fraizer, chris heinrich, maurice jeffers, justin tatum, and carl turner. turner's write up states he is a teacher and coach now, and i was told that tatum did get his degree at mckendree last year. other than those two, only dobbs write up makes no mention of still working to get his degree. overall, pretty good record.
  17. and for those not as old as us bonwich, that is vintage monty python...........ahhhh they dont make sketch comedy like that anymore.
  18. i think 5 is an outside chance, especially if cincy and louisville continue to win. they only have 1 or two losses betweent them, they are both top 5 teams and everyone's rpi will really benefit.
  19. from what i understand, green had zero input and was extremely angry when told the deal was done.
  20. courtside said, " have not seen Cincy play that hard for 40 minutes, ever under huggins." van excel's final four team was one of the hardest working relentless teams i have ever seen.
  21. no offense guys, but you are preaching to the choir. the couple few students we hear from on this board are billiken nuts just like us. i appreciate the fact they are telling us a solution to get the dead a$$ students to at least consider a trip to the savvis. what is sad, is that it has always been a problem. when i was a student, i will never forget sitting in the front row under the basket with about 5 other students watching the soon to be national champion louisville team of darrell griffith and friends dismantle david burns. you had two of the most exciting players in the country playing, you had the number one team in the nation and we had about 5 students at the game. whenever i get p'd about the students, i remember that game and say, "it was even worse". that said, unless the kids start to come out, they sure wouldnt get all of the best seats in the new house. i would leave them right where they are until they show some consistent support.
  22. i would have assumed you were a communications major since you seem to be involved in the project. that would lead to assuming you know avis as most communications majors go through his classes. you need to find your way through his classes. he is the best teacher i had while at slu.
  23. ahhhhhh i sense the latest protege of avis meyer is present. alonzo, is this show something that can only be viewed on campus, or is it available on charter or somewhere else? sounds like a great project. good luck! btw, just how is avis doing these days?
  24. according to the below link saint louis university is ranked 5th in the nation for defense. ironically for coach brad, wisconsin is 4th! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/leaders?cat=teamdef&type=2
