GOSLU68
how far in adavance does this happen? it seems this year because of our entrance to the A-10 it did not fall into place too gracefully and we end up in the alley in St. Charles for two games; if the Blues settle their problems in the NHL and the hockey league doesn't crumble with Lemieux retiring, maybe the answer for Brad's teams is schedule better RPI teams as we play down to the competitions level and we play up to the name schools. Brad's teams really seem like they would like to be Davids to Goliaths.
kshoe
we are 1-7 against teams with an RPI from 1-100 and 7-1 against teams 100+. If we had created a non-conference schedule that had only top 100 opponents I shudder to think what our record would be right now.
GOSLU68
I am not suggesting we play all Gonzagas and UNC type games, But we certainly get better fan interest with teams that Cusumano does not have to explain as Richmond being really old school- although I never considered South Florida as "in our league". Seems we were originally to play them on Saturday night (last night); instead of being off TV locally because of the football game. Evidently, our negotiator decided we would give them an extra nights rest after their Cincy game; very cordial guests we are., I wonder if they would return the favor? courtside
You have to do what you can with what you have. It is tough for SLU to get home and home with a very good team. Take em when you can. It all depends on the conference. SLU needs the UNC, Gonzaga, etc...Iowa games...and a couple more...because of the conference. If SLU were in the Big East...I wouldn't suggest a Syracuse or Louisville non-conference schedule, but ...not say a DePaul one either this year. Part of attracting recruits is saying you play such and such and beat such and such. This is why getting the best local and regional kids first...have some success, schedule named schools...then expand out to other areas. Gotta go inside out recruiting, no choice. Can't sell the conference as strongly as some of the top ones....
kshoe
the conference determined when we played other conference opponents within certain restrictions. The conference likely said SLU and Xavier must play this weekend. Xavier was also likely able to gets its very attractive cross-town rivalry game scheduled for national t.v. for Thursday only (as Tues. and Wed. are contractually obligated nights for certain conferences). Thus, Xavier probably did ask us to play the game on Sunday instead of Saturday and we agreed since it is only reasonable. Similarly, the first game of the conference season was on a Tuesday vs. St. Bon. Every other team started the conference on Wed and the normal day for weekday games is Wed. So why did SLU get a special game a day earlier then normally would have been scheduled? Because the Savvis was being used and St. B was kind enough to work around the date. As for playing teams like Richmond, they are in our conference so there's nothing that can be done about it.
