NashvilleBilliken
“Darren has consistently been our hardest worker during the summer,†Soderberg said. “We’re excited about his focus. He’s not content with only playing in half the games like he did last year.†That's good to hear. Darren hasn't been talked about much this summer with Polk coming in and all. But it would be great to not see a drop off at gaurd when our starters come off the court. Plus we can keep up that fast paced game...see next quote “With Dwayne Polk on this team, we’re not doing the job if we don’t run,†Soderberg said. “We need to devise a simple, solid plan for offensive transition. We need to run to win more.†Looks like those of you worried about that "slow" basketball won't have to worry much longer.
3star_recruit
Much of that preview, including those quotes, were taken directly from the SLU 2004-2005 prospectus that's been out for a couple of months. We had a thread about it back then but it's good to revisit now that practice is about to start.
Sheltiedave
We need to run more in order to progress, BUT we do not yet have the personnel to run, run, run AND play defense with Braditude for the whole game. We do have the personnel to manage it for a ten minute spurt, unless some of the subs come up spades. Having JJ pull a head case during the summer really hurts us here. The key in many of the conference games is to catch the third or fourth person coming down on the break (the so-called secondary break) and have them capable of nailing the mid range two to the long range three pointer. This is why Reggie is going to be a principal in the evolving faster offense, as the secondary break is tailor made to his shooting skills. This also will dictate that points come easier in some games when compared to last year, when Fisher set the table in more deliberate fashion. It will help immensely if Newbourne can seal his defender behind him, catch the pass four feet outside the lane, and put the ball on the floor going to the basket. Three years from now, we will be a good running transition team at guard and forward, so it will be interesting how Brad's B10 coaching style with area speedsters and ball handlers will play in the A10.
