What's with the Cardinals?

Recommended Posts

Walt was a master of trades, until teams realized that the players that Walt was including in deals (from the farm system) weren't major league caliber players - then the picking of pockets was over. Walt was responsible for the draft and developing major league talent, he failed. Triangle has attached a list of drafts - scroll down and check out 1995-2007. Another problem that our Cardinals are still suffering from is that ownership ignored the Carribean which Too now believes is being corrected and this will be a new influx of talent for the distant coming years. Walt had nothing too do with the young excelling players of the Reds.

so it goes.

That's the beauty of having Duncan as a pitching coach. He was able to polish turds like Kent Bottenfield so that Walt could turn around and trade them for real talent like Edmonds.

Great post Box. Bill Dewitt realized that things weren't going well in the draft and player developement (they were bad). Things needed too change and Walt's ego wouldn't compromise - goodbye. Walt's true accomplishments with the Reds won't be realized for 4-5 years. So far he may pick up the Cairo and Edmond type players.

so it goes.

You can analyze it all you want, and say Walt was bad at this or that. The fact of the matter is that we won with him at GM.
