davidlee
Thats not a good sign. I would be surprised if they went after Cotto. They have plenty of guards coming in; they need some bigs - bad. With Pruitt and Randle leaving they are very short on big guys. just my opinion
3star_recruit
If Weber is looking for someone to create offense for his team, Cotto really isn't that guy. I think Kevin was further along as a point guard out of high school than Cotto is.

combes
there have been mention os university of illinois-chicago and illinois state. brian had an older brother ronnie who played at illinois state. Illinois will not recruit Cotto. Absolutely no room for an 08 guard. No involvement with Cotto unless he ends up being a jc player and Illinois might recruit him for a couple of years from now. But right now, Illinois has Jamar Smith and Alex Legion coming in 2008, DJ Richardson, Brandon Paul, Joseph Bertrand in 2009, and Crandall Head in 2010. Add in versatile performers Jereme Richmond and Tyler Griffey, and Illinois should return to prominence soon. That is more than enough guards with Demetri McCamey around for three more years. Every one of those guards is a higher ranked prospect than Cotto. I know rankings don't mean everything, but I really don't think SLU has to worry about Illinois going after him. Illinois is more likely to go after a 2008 jc big man whose scholarship would open up again for the 2010 class. Even for 2008, if Illinois runs a three guard offense with Smith, Legion, and McCamey, this year's second leading scorer Trent Meacham is still around to back them up with Chester Frazier available for some defensive/energy minutes(he had 13 rebounds last night). Even Jeff Jordan could earn some minutes. I would think Cotto would be looking for a more wide open situation. As for Carlwell, he was in the stands last night sitting with Jamar Smith and CJ Jackson. He was enjoying himself, but then his dad showed up from Chicago very unhappy with Brian for transferring. He thought Brian should have rehabbed here and worked hard to be a contributor next year. Illinois coaches had asked Brian to lose 40 pounds (he is at 290) and to dedicate himself to getting into shape from his knee injury. Brian is a happy go lucky kid who is not an extremely hard worker. He chose to transfer and Weber says that he will help place Brian. No hard feelings from either side. It looks like UIC is first on his list followed by ISU.
