  1. Man so true. Perkins could have played 59 minutes last night, easily (his 25 plus Jacobs 34). The fact that Perkins was in foul trouble and had to ride the bench is not important, correct? He gets 10 fouls when he takes Jacobs minutes.

  3. I agree, but I do cringe when both French and Goodwin are on the bench at the same time. It should be pretty easy to have one in and when the other is out, except of course if both are in foul trouble.
  4. https://twitter.com/A10Talk/status/1215089181388656640?s=20 It looks like Coach is settling into his comfort 8 man rotation. I agree that last night, the minutes maybe could have been spread a little more, with Bell getting only 12, Weaver 13 and Hargrove 8. We certainly aren't running like we did earlier, and is that due to the heavier minutes by Collins, French, and Goodwin? Not only do we walk it up, but we stand around a lot looking for that one opening. I'm not sure what the average 'hold' is on a player with the ball, but our offense moves the ball slower than most.
  5. Totally agree that Jimerson's value to the team has been emphasized since he went down. But we did beat KSU without him and Thatch, so the pieces are still there. We are obviously having trouble adapting to how teams are playing us.
  6. Some positives from last night. Turnovers were way down from the UMass game, at 9. At 60%, our FT% for the season actually improved. Eight blocks, 5 for French, and 9 steals are solid. GW was credited with only 2 fast break points. We held a 32% 3FG% team to 25%.
  7. Osunniyi was hurt earlier this season, same as last season. Bonnies are pretty much run by sophomores. The Bonnies may have the easiest A10 schedule. They play VCU and Dayton each once (both on the road) and Rhode Island and Richmond once, both at home. Is this a formula for a Top 4 finish? FYI, SLU target Robert Carpenter has pretty much been absent this season for St. B. He has played in 7 of their 15 games and averages 0.6 ppg.
  8. Road wins tonight for the Bonnies at Mason and the Dukes at St. Joe. Rhody takes down Davidson (are they done?) and UMass recovers from their SLU loss with a home win over LaSalle.
  9. New thread for new year. I'm throwing this graphic out simply because it is pretty neat. This SBUnfurled guy is the same who put the logos together. Click on it to make it larger and read what he is doing. And BTW, the game should be a close one. Osunnyi is back playing well after his injury, giving StB both an offensive and defensive presence.
  10. Throw @Davidson into the Q2 bucket. Today they are NET 99. The NCAA Team Sheets do a good job plotting all of this. (Scroll to #69.) https://extra.ncaa.org/solutions/rpi/Stats Library/NET Team Sheets - Jan. 7, 2020.pdf
  11. BC's victory last night pushed them to a Q2 win for us. For me, the next four games will either tell if our At Large hope is alive or DOA.
  12. Coach did say 'P5' for those two, but he wasn't specific.
  13. Last night Coach said that Bell was playing only 7 or 8 minutes per game last season at Bella Vista. He was the third big on the team. Now he is playing 13 minutes per game in D1. He has a lot to learn, but he has come a long way in a year.
  14. This BC win might push our game to a Q2 win. They were 145 today and need to move to 135 for that to happen. We will know tomorrow. BC needs to keep winning in the weaker than normal ACC.
  15. Didn't want to start a new thread, but interesting news today about Bell.
  16. You conveniently ignored 2004/2005. That's okay. I said pick the data you want. And you did. All is good. I'm just providing data. I'm not sure what your point is, but that is okay too. I don't need to know. Carry on.
  17. As I said, pick the data points you want to support your position. I kind of think over 16,000 Billiken three point shots over 30 years is a significant sample size. The three point line was adopted by the NCAA in 1986, moved in 2007 and again this year. The worst Billiken three point season was Spoon's 96-97 team, at 29.2%, which was on the shortest line. Second worst was Sodie's 04-05 team at 29.5%. Again the short line. Hmmmm.
  18. Tuesdays with Travis, Scoops with Danny Mac. Call it what you want. A lot of repeated information from last night's Coach Show. Fun comment, after the game Coach was asked if he wanted the game ball (for his 400th ) and he said 'For What'. He had no idea he had 400 wins. Danny Mac asked if there was one win that stood out. Ford reviewed key games at each of his coaching stops. His SLU game he mentioned was the A10 Tourney game v St. Bonnie. Interesting that he said he had focused on Goodwin and French when recruiting his first year. Most coaches focus on 12 or 13. He focused on those two. With the packed upcoming schedule, it is hard to get better. Most of the work is in the video room. Yesterday they worked on FT and then spent the rest of practice in the video room. Talked about the computer chips in shoes, charting individual shots. [This has been covered in other interviews.] If fans have the app, they can track it during games, if the teams use the chip shoes during games. https://www.scoopswithdannymac.com/billikens-basketball-update-with-travis-ford-january-7-2020/
  19. Some Billiken specific three point shooting data: YTD: 32.6% 3FG 2018-19 season: 30.4%, so ah, an improvement 30 year Billiken average: 34.6%., so ah, no improvement So yes it has made a difference, or no it hasn't made a difference. Pick you data point needed for your position.
  20. I think the better word may be "used" after they play 4 seasons. They are granted "as filed" but say Jimerson would not use his Waiver Season until he has used up his 4 year normal eligibility. Yes, he may be listed as a Redshirt Freshman next year, but perhaps that is a misnomer. But it is all semantics, as if you have the waiver season in the bank, you have 5 seasons no matter how you look at it. For Thatch, here I may be wrong, but the "injury or illness" has to occur in the first half of the season. The 30% rule would apply for Thatch. So I don't believe, and again I could be wrong, he could play three or four more games in second half of the season and be at or under the 10 game mark, still be at 30% or lower, and be eligible for a medical waiver. If anyone for sure knows different on the second half issue, please weigh in. Illnesses are definitely included in the Waiver discussion.
  21. Coach's Show with Rammer, Jan 6 Coach wasn't aware that he won game #400 until after the game and he saw all the signs. Talked about the OOC schedule. Originally they were concerned about the schedule with 7 new players. four games away from home. He originally thought the schedule was too tough for the new team. He would have for sure run with 11-2 easily when he saw the schedule. "We were shell shocked against Seton Hall." "We competed but they were a lot better than us that night." "Jimerson going down is a blow for the team, but we don't have time to feel sorry. We have to adjust and move forward. We lost a presence that others had to react to." "You always have to adjust on the fly." Weaver has stepped up. Coach "If you asked me in July who was going to lead the team in scoring, I would have said Fred Thatch." He was in the gym with Bess every day. Even the games Thatch has played in, he wasn't himself. We thought he was going to be a Defender of the Year candidate. Hoping they are getting closer to getting him back. "If we get Fred back this year, hopefully he will be an impact player." Thatch was a core guy coming in...he was going to play a lot. He was asking the other 8 to step up and show the staff why they deserve playing time. Collins got his opportunity when Thatch couldn't play. He backed it up and played very well. After Duquesne, he told the team they have 2 guys that give the team a chance to win any game. "We need the others to bring it and compete at the highest level." Role players didn't compete against Duquesne as they needed. Examples, going under screens instead of over, blocking out, setting screens the right way because we know how they will defend it. Coach "We would have liked to win last night by 10 or 15, but it was satisfying that we figured out how to win a close game." Talked more about Duquesne game. Coach: "We got off to a decent start defensively in the first half. We couldn't get anything going offensively. "Free throws really hurt us. We were down four and missed the front end of a one and one." "Just a bad performance by everyone, including the coaching staff." "We were stuck in mud. All the stats we keep they were the worst all year long. Dukes having four starters back from last year has helped them a lot." UMass, Coach again gives the crowd a lot of credit for the win. With 3 minutes to go in OT, we made all the big plays. Started with Goodwin guarding Tre Mitchell, and he ripped the ball out, Jacobs converts and one (which he missed). Collins diving on the ball, if he doesn't get that maybe we don't win. Told the team, we need that mentality all game long. When things get tight, some teams play not to lose. Team went and grabbed the game. Talked about Collins toughness and competitiveness....taking charges and diving on balls. French took over in the second half, we need that from French all the time, for 40 minutes. They broke down every turn over today, and saw that most were self inflicted and not caused by UMass defense. Maybe two of the TO's were due to UMass D. Rammer and Earl have discussed "All Decade Billiken Team". Rammer could not get down to five. Nine 'for sure locks". Bess, French and Goodwin; Evans, Mitchell, Jett, McCall and Loe (I missed the last one, guessing Ellis.) Talked a lot about Jett's improvement in his four years. TJ Hargrove may have the most NBA potential on the team. Patience is a virtue that he has. "I knew what was next when he played his first game and got 27 points....why haven't you played him more??" TJ is very comfortable handling the ball on the perimeter. He can really knock down three's, but you aren't seeing it with the numbers so far. The detail work was what was missing earlier. Jimmy Bell, he does the little things. People who don't know basketball wonder why he is in. Per minutes played, he is up there in most categories. He is up in the high post because he passes well. This time last year, Bell wasn't playing much. He was the third big on his team, playing 7 to 8 minutes per game. So he went from that to starting in the A10. Text: 1-3-1 with Hargrove up top got us going. First time this year it has helped us out. This team doesn't play the '13' very well. But last night it was a difference maker. Hargrove is perfect up top. Rammer asked and Coach said it is easier to teach defense over offense. There is a lot of feel and effort in D. Wants a highly skilled O player and teach them D. Again on Thatch: Coach, there are still things we don't know about. He is practicing 15 to 20 minutes per game. He is feeling good right now. That's about it. Text: Hankton - more than any other player he has been riddled with injury. He is healthy now. Was playing well early, but he got behind when he got injured this year. His time will come this year. Said Dayton is a step above every one else in the league. VCU is close. 8 or 9 teams can say they are one of the top teams in the league. Richmond could win the league. On paper, possibly, could be the best team. They have everyone back from last year and have a high level transfer, Francis. GW; new coach, new players, Toro had 14/16 against us a few years ago. They run a lot of action offense. They are #2 in nation in defending 3 point FG made. They are still trying to figure it out. Opposing coaches are focused on French. Will GW change from a perimeter D to clogging the lane? UMass backed way off of our shooters. Coach is planning on reacting to that, looking at GW.
  22. Here is the interview on Channel 5. It's a fun interview, well worth the time. Goodwin padding his Rebound stats? French to the NFL?
  23. Yes. Who do you want to take the 12 - 15 shot from the elbow? There aren't a lot of candidates.
  24. Calls from last night that you don't see much anymore: 12 traveling violations (I agree on everyone of them, but traveling isn't called much anymore.) And Goodwin's carry of the ball. That was a head scratcher. Yuri's taking the ball out of bounds after Perkins inbounded it, was, well, let's just say humorous.
