  1. Our Twitter feed is reporting yet another overtime loss as the Billikens.com fall to Wisconsin 2-1.
  2. Admittedly, it has been one of those years for me too. I have seen approximately 1.5 games so far this season at Hermann Stadium and a few moments here and there online. I am not sure if I'll make it to anymore this season.
  3. I am trying to decide the extent to which Billikens.com can predict the overall state of the program. In all my years following the soccer discussion here, I have never seen so few posts.
  4. Our Twitter feed is reporting a 0-0 tie between SLU and UMass.
  5. As an FYI for those who may not remember, McGinty has been here since the Fall 2010 and in that time, his teams have only won the conference championship once and has only advanced to the NCAA tournament twice in 2012 and 2014. His teams are 1-2 in the tourney with two losses at home included a loss against Farleigh Dickinson. I am not sure what the expectations should have been prior to the start of the season, but the early season results, including the performance of our two transfers, had me convinced that a tourney bid was a given.
  6. I walked around SLU and Midtown after the game last night and I have to say that Midtown looks better than ever. I love the blue neon lights everywhere and the increased lighting in general. And, I love the new entrance to Pius. I do think they need to reinvent the main drag though, particularly the area between DuBourg, Pius and Griesedieck. I also think they should prohibit the use of golf carts by University staff. Does anyone else agree with me on this?
  7. I have not seen a lot of games this season, but last night, there were sequences when the Billikens looked like they just did not care all that much. Just go for the long ball and hope for the best. I did not see our best games, but based on those results, it seems as though they are underachieving in a big way. Chemistry or morale may be an issue. I barely made the intramural team that I organized in college, but it seems to me that Coach McGinty needs to go back to the drawing board. And, maybe even change up the keeper as that golden goal was scored on poor defending by the keeper as far as I could tell from my seat.
  8. I think it is time to permanently cancel the 2015-2016 series of soccer rankings posts as SLU lost 3-2 to Dayton in overtime. We are definitely not a national power this season. Not even close.
  9. FWIW: I would argue that Men's Soccer was a really good hire at the time, but he certainly looks more and more like a decent hire or worse.
  10. Unfortunately, I did not get to go, but Indiana tweeted that it was the second highest with the highest being against Indiana in 1999.
  11. Tulsa is 4-4-1 but has an amazing non-conference schedule with North Carolina, Louisville, Virginia, Creighton, SMU and maybe a few more. Respect to Tulsa for building one of the toughest schedules in the nation.
  12. SLUBillikens.com posted a feature on senior captain Tyler David. The story is worth the read for all Billikens fan, even if you are not a fan of soccer. Definitely a cool story. I did not realize that Tyler David was a walk-on. http://www.slubillikens.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=27200&ATCLID=210381988
  13. Massey has the A-10 as the 20th of the 24 conferences that sponsor Men's Soccer.
  14. I thought I would help out in adding a few of the latest rankings though others can chime in with the rest if we are ranked. SLU is now No. 22 in the Massey Ratings after the weekend. Dayton (4-3-1) is No. 88 and Davidson (2-2-2) is No. 93 to round out Atlantic 10 schools in the Top 100. URI and LaSalle are the only other schools with winning records. The A-10 is obviously very weak. The loss against Denver has left SLU on the outside looking in with the NSCAA coaches poll though we are getting votes. Louisville also dropped out of the rankings with a tie over the weekend, so our resume is trending down. Not to mention, Indiana lost over the weekend to Rutgers of all teams. Massey has Indiana at No. 55. Incidentally, SIUE is at No. 54.
  15. The win moved us up to No. 15 in the Massey Ratings. Denver and Louisville are at 25 and 26 respectively with Indiana at 29. The only other opponent left in the Top 100 is Davidson with URI and Dayton just outside the Top 100.
  16. The University of Akron is streaming the game tonight free of charge. The games starts at 6:00 pm central for those who are interested.
  17. SLU defeats Tulsa on the road tonight with a gold goal by Vince Cicciarelli in the second overtime. Based on a cursory glance at the live stats, it looks like the starters included: Heskamp, Karcher, Pavisic, David, Hein, Hajderovic, Cicciarelli, Davies, Minors, Brown, and Otte. Three freshmen and three first year players. Graydon did not start but was subbed in midway through the second half. Saad and Popovic also subbed in. Cicciarelli and Hajderovic would return for overtime. I am trying my best not to draw conclusions from the stats, but the stats mostly favored Tulsa including shots (15-5) and shots on goal (6-4). Corners favored SLU 8-3.
  18. While I know it impossible to look at a box score of an exhibition match against a junior college team and draw conclusions, but I was surprised to see Marco Heskamp come of the bench in the 4-0 win over Jefferson College. Did anyone go? Hajderoriv and Cicciarelli scored in their debut. Keepers Roman Vassel and freshman Ben Yeager each played one half. Box Score http://www.slubillikens.com/pdf9/3717106.pdf
  19. I missed George Mason, but thanks for the correction.
  20. It is a shame. VCU is getting votes, but the A-10 is not what is was a few years ago. As far as ranked teams on the SLU schedule: Tulsa (getting votes) Indiana (No. 14) Akron (No. 25) Louisville (No. 18) Unfortunately, only Indiana is coming to Hermann Stadium. Notre Dame is ranked, but that game is slated as an exhibition.
  21. Men's Soccer is ranked No. 22 in the NSCAA preseason polls: http://www.nscaa.com/rankings/4159/NCAADivisionI/men/PreseasonPoll Exhibition play begins next week!
  22. I had the same reaction when I saw Central Arkansas scheduled for homecoming.
  23. I apologize if this was previously posted, but the Fall schedule has been posted: http://www.slubillikens.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPSID=632578&SPID=93202&DB_OEM_ID_COUNT_=2&DB_OEM_ID_1_=27200&DB_OEM_ID=27200&DB_OEM_ID_0_=27200&Q_SEASON=2015 Memphis (92), Denver (104), Central Arkansas (190), Indiana (16), Wisconsin (151) round out the home non-conference slate with Tulsa (44), Akron (22), Louisville (20), and Evansville (147) on the road. I included the 2014 final Massey Ranking for reference. I do not see the Welcome Week match, so they must be working on the exhibitions.
  24. The Bosnian league is so small and Siroki Brijeg is very isolated, but at least is close to the Croatian coast. It looks like he is the only American on the team. It would be interesting to know how much he makes, but I would bet it is one of the lowest paying leagues in Europe.
