Just like WMD's, we're fighting a war over nothing. What difference does it make when a coach announces a player is transferring? For every bum like Obi and Horace, there's a guy that landed on his feet and has prospered, especially a guy like Marcus Relephord. Talented, hard-working kid who couldn't fit into Majerus' system - but I bet RM got him in contact with CU and now he is flourishing in a system that works for him. Coaches don't publicly say, "oh, this kid is leaving the program because I couldn't coach him or he couldn't adapt to my system." Coaches quietly make a statement about playing time or a better program close to home, etc. This benefits the players and doesn't bruise their egos.

You know, I'm sure RM saw a little of himself in Paul...maybe knew he was gifted in academia, but loved basketball. I'm sure Rick remembers to the exact day he had to give up basketball and pursue another love - coaching. Well, he had Al Maguire at Marquette to mentor him. Maybe when Paul goes on to cure a disease or help save a child's life, he will thank Rick Majerus for being a guiding light in his career pursuits. When Majerus came here, he fully understood the Jesuit mission of being a man for others. Let's hope Dr. Paul carries on our mission to every person he encounters.

Whether or not he was or wasn't good enough shouldn't matter for a coach like Soderberg. But then again, good coaches like to challenge themselves by taking a mediocre player and turning them into something of value to a program. Brad never did that.

So I'm in line at the Great American Bagel or whatever it is last night catching a 8 pm flight out of Lambert, and who gets in line next to me? The legend, Bryan Burwell. I asked him who he had this weekend and he nods and said "Duke, put your money on Duke." I told him I was a SLU alum and had enjoyed his coverage next year and he said that he'd definitely be in a seat for more games next fall, which was great to hear. Also saw Rams HC Steve Spags with an assistant in the terminal. Imagine that -- BB and Spags fly Southwest Airlines, just like the rest of us.
