Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. 6-7 Justin Martin and 6-5 Jay Canty will be asked to pick up Crawford's 20ppg along with senior Dante Jackson. Equally as big of a loss as Crawford is so is the graduation of 6-9 Jason Love. Here are youtubes of Jay Canty and post recruit Jordan Latham who will be freshmen this fall. (#11) (#22)
  2. Crawford is gone. X fans know that. Mark Lyons and 6-7 210 Justin Martin will try to replace the 20ppg Crawford posted from the wing. Jay Canty will battle senior to be Dante Jackson for minutes as well. Jamel McClean joins Frease in the post. Frease is saying all the right things to the media about working his tail off this summer. He is apparently headed to Bobby Martin's big man camp in New England. Jason Love went there and it really helped his footwork. Thats Frease's issue as well. Frease doesnt kill X with mistakes when he's in the game but he doesnt load up the stat sheet either. He's got two years to develop. Jeff Robinson needs 20 pounds of muscle in order to be considered for playing time. Griffin McKenzie is a 6-9 forward from the famed Moeller High in Cincy that made it to the Ohio big school state finals. The jury is out on Griff. He has very little skill/moves in the post and feels most comfortable shooting threes. His top 150 ranking came about from a ridiculously hot streak he had over last summer in AAU games. He basically missed his entire junior season to a back injury. Like Robinson, Griff is not A-10 ready physically and does not possess good foot speed. He can shoot it though and would be a match up nightmare potentially like former Marquette forward Steve Novak down the road. 6-8 newcomer Jordan Latham will get minutes and from what I've seen has a little better offensive game than Frease but is not as strong yet. Holloway returns at point which is huge. Very warm day here in Cincy as your Redbirds prepare to take on the Reds again. Storms are expected to arrive here around 9pm. Dusty says he wont walk Phat Albert every time much to the chagrin of fans here. Make Holliday beat us. The Cuban Missile makes his American debut in Louisville AAA Sunday. Card fans will have to see Aroldis Chapman when he gets promoted later this spring. The lefty is fearless and has the potential of being the #1 starter on the Reds very soon. I fear Eddie Volquez may never be the same again.
  3. Crawford is a sophomore in terms of eligibility but this is his 4th season removed from HS. 1. prep school 2. Indiana 3. Sat out under transfer rules 4. Sophomore at X I just let all the scholarship stuff work itself out. I dont see Crawford coming back either. It will depend on NBA individual needs at the draft, the pool of guards available, and continued improvement in front of scouts. His passing and shot selection has improved a great deal since November. He has been attending second semester classes at X allegedly which does not give one an indication that he is leaving the program. X has two solid scorers coming in who play the wing: 6-7 Justin Martin (originally verballed to Louisville) and 6-6 Jay Canty (scored 32 and grabbed 21 rebounds in a game in Jan.) The other two recruits are power forwards but with strikingly different games both ranked in Rivals top 120.
  4. 1. Temple is the top team in the A-10, they beat X 77-72 in Philly. 2. Reed was as good of a post player X has seen this season. 3. Love is a senior, McClean and Jackson are juniors. Holloway, Frease, and Crawford are sophomores. Lyons is a freshman. X returns alot from this team next season. SLU is one of the best passing teams I've seen this year without a bounce. Reminds me of Duke and Butler how they rotate the ball quicker than the defense. 4. Officiating was puzzling for both sides. On Mack's post game radio show he said McClean was whacked for asking a ref why no foul call on his stickback? He had been warned for the "begging" earlier but you dont foul a guy out for non-vulgar language. SLU really fed off that "T." 5. Great game, great crowd. Several of us X fans want to make the trip west the next time they play. Looks like a really nice arena on TV.
  5. http://www.zagsblog.com/2010/02/01/pitt-to...0-rumors-false/ This guy has press credentials in the Big East and runs a nice blog. I trust his stories. As for Xavier, they are staying in the A-10. Charlotte, Temple, URI, and St Joe's all look to have solid teams 2-4 years down the road. Dayton is staying too. X has reeled in three top 100 east coast recruits for '10-'11. Coach Mack brought on two assistants with solid ties to North Carolina , DC, and the Baltimore areas.
