  1. I have great regard for the Catholic teachings and do my best to follow them. I just don't think it's proper for me to force those teachings on others.
  2. But how do you hold the players to a Catholic standard and not the coach?
  3. I'm not approving the conduct. But you are essentially saying that by accepting a college scholarship, a player has the duty to follow the morals of billiken roy. That's simply not the case. They don't even have the duty to follow the morals of the Catholic Church. SLU pretty much waived that when they hired a divorced coach. (for the record, I don't think his divorce is relevant to anything here at SLU). As long as what they are doing is legal, I'm not about to impose my morals or your morals on them.
  4. Please explain? A girl is in a dorm room with two guys at 3am. Has anyone done anything improper at this point? NO They have sex. Has anyone done anything improper at this point? NO A girl ALLEGES sexual assault and now you maintain that they "put themselves in this situation." That's asinine. We know no other facts. We don't know if force was involved. We don't know alcohol was involved. We don't know drugs were involved. At this point, all we know is these people were together at 3am in a door room and now she alleges something improper happened. The vast majority of college students and college athletes have been alone in a room with a member of the opposite sex overnight. The only way to not ""put themselves in this situation" is to never have sex during their 4 years of college because any girl at anytime can scream "rape". Accepting a scholarship does not require celibacy. If these guys did something wrong, I say bury them. But until we know that something actually occurred, your condemnation of them is absolute bull****.
  5. I completely disagree. At least at this point. 20 year old men are going to have sex. We cannot stop that just because they have a scholarship. You go to a girl's room, she comes to yours, whatever. You have no way of knowing she's going to scream rape until afterwards. You can't, at this point, say these kids "put themselves in this situation." 999 times out of 1000, "this situation" is simply two adults having sex. Unless you are claiming these guys went in with some prearranged plan to sexually assault some girl, you can't comment on "this situation" because you don't know what "this situation" is. All we know at this point is that "a 20-year-old female student reported two male St. Louis University Students sexually assaulted her between 3 and 4 a.m. Saturday inside a dorm at the Grand Forest Apartments." So, two guys were with a girl at 3-4am. I'm guessing "this situation" has happened to the vast majority of college athletes. You cannot control post-occurrence accusations and there's nothing wrong with spending the night with a girl. How about we wait for the facts to come out before accusing anyone of being less than proper Billikens.
  6. Gotcha. I'm Fr. Doody Era. And frankly news like this wouldn't shock me one bit.
  7. They claim 3 players but did not name them.
  8. I'm calling BS on this. Today is the golf classic. Rick was coming back no matter what.
  9. Actually, crappy job by Strickland. All he did was report what he read in this thread.
  10. Exactly. When I was at SLU many years ago, there was a student who claimed she was grabbed behind Clemens and raped. Turned out she made the entire thing up to get attention. Stranger things happen. I'll wait for charges.
  11. Here is what I'm talking about. http://www.cnbc.com/id/36473085 I kid, I kid.
  12. But that's my question. I understand the number of buyers will be limited. I don't expect to see these items in stores sitting on shelves with SLU logos on them. But once the product is developed and produced for a Big 12 school, it cannot be difficult to simply put a Billiken on it instead of a Jayhawk (and it will look much better). Why can't SLU/A-10 work out a deal with some of these companies where these things are available by special order? With the way production works today, there is no reason the Billikens couldn't have a catalog with thousands of items of crap like this. Sure, you may have to wait 3-4 weeks to get it, but you should be able to get it. Seriously, how difficult could it be for FatHead to have it's machine spray a Billiken logo on vinyl instead of a Xavier "X"? It just seems to meet that there are a whole world of opportunities out there that the Billikens /A-10 are missing out on. They need to look consider the "goal" here. A school like SLU should be less concerned with making a profit off of these items. The goal at this point should be name recognition. If it were up to me, I would brand everything possible. Even if we don't make a dime, having a Billiken posted everywhere holds value in and of itself. If we cut these companies a sweet enough deal, they would do it.
  13. I had heard this also. I thought we lost Sito. Great job by McGinty.
  14. Sorry, I was out of town and couldn't reply. Yes Roy, you are correct. The SLU Shop is nice. But I was trying to figure out why we can't compete with MU, KU, Illini, etc. But I don't understand why the little, odd stuff isn't available as it is for the BCS schools. You can get just about anything with a "big school" logo on it. I understand a manufacture isn't going to want to produce stuff that doesn't sell, but you think it would be set up so that we can order it. If I want a leather Billiken Chair or a Billiken Steak Branding Iron, I should be able to get it. Hell, I can't even get a fathead vinyl Billiken.
  15. The Billikens and the A-10 in general fall way behind similar situated colleges as far as available merchandise. Is the problem with SLU? The A-10? It sucks not being able to get all the various stuff to show you are a Billiken fans. What gives?
  16. Hopefully he will reverse the damage that Donigan has done.
  17. realtime rpi has Illinois at 75. I understand we have a high RPI, but those picking also understand that: SLU is a different team with Ellis 3 of the bad loses came before Ellis Majerus is a draw SLU has upset ability.
  18. I think if that second win is over Temple, the Bills are going to the NCAA's. I think we just have to get to the final, not necessarily win it.
  19. I said, "sadly, this day in age," - so yes, I could see some idiot suing to get attention. I highly doubt it would be successful, but I could see it happening. I'll maintain that moving would be a poor choice on the part of SLU.
  20. This is my line of thinking as well. Personally, it would be a huge mistake to move these games (if they were to happen). If someone has "their seats" all year and you ask them if they want those same seats for the post season and then move them, there are bound to be people unhappy with the "new seats". It wouldn't be unexpected for those negatively effected to then not renew their season tickets. Why would SLU risk this? And, sadly, this day in age, SLU would probably get a suit filed against them. They don't need the bad press. So given the above, I can't see SLU agree to a change. Likewise, SLU would never have the "home court advantage" at Scott that they have at The 'fetz. Why would they give that up? If the opponent were Illinois, SLU fans would probably be the minority if the game were played at Scott.
  21. Here are my favorite from the Dayton Board:
