  1. On the fence but I am hoping this game goes along way to build the confidence of a couple of our struggling players, namely TL. He played fantastic. His stroke was what we all believe it could be: pure. If he can consistantly play that well, and the freshmen continue to improve, I like our chances with a relatively weak schedule. A few points: 1. The Detroit loss killed us 2. Cassity appears to be a stellar point guard - that is HUGE for Conklin and Reed down low, as well as helping KL and TL get open shots - very encouraging 3. Mitchell can be a stud - just has to settle down at times 4. We NEED a marque win over someone like Xavier to make the post season - we have very mediocre wins (outside of BC) and a couple bad losses (Detroit, Nebraska) 5. I have to say I am disappointed because I had high expectations but while disappointed, I am VERY encouraged by the progress of our freshmen. I probably should have factored in the frosh factor, but I figured TL and KL could carry them early on. Either way, the future is finally bright for a SLU team. 6. Willie Reed is the freakin man
  2. TL is shooting lights out. Nice to see him explode this game. Hopefully this builds his confidence. It appears as if the Billiken mascot needs a little more personality out on the court during timeouts...true or false? maybe he's hungover. GREAT game so far.
  3. AWESOME!! Comes in great. Thanks for the link
  4. HOW DO WE LOOK!??! Anyone watching? I can only watch via GameTracker...which by the looks of it we appear to be playing very well offensively.
  5. Remember a few years back when they had a competition for SLU students to come up with a new fight song? Has anything happened with that or are there any rumors of a fight song being adopted? When the Saints Go Marching In is good, but kind of embarrassing. I realize it would take YEARS, even DECADES for a fight song to stick and become tradition so this isn't a quick process. Any SLU-mers out there?
  6. Understandable. I am just saying it frustrates me when people use it as a "line" in a bar or to impress people. It irks me. For all intents and purposes, close this thread, imo.
  7. That was the disagreement over the phrase "formality." p.s. nothing is worse then lying about being over in Iraq
  8. I agree. Smaller version keeping Laclede's. If not, I really hope they open up at another location. But that still isn't 100% perfect because the large appeal of Laclede's was to stumble there after Humphrey's or to grab a beer while waiting for fraternity or sorority buses or to watch the NFL games. If it does get moved, it HAS to be close
  9. That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it, no matter how ill-informed, disrespectful and ignorant it is. Go SLU.
  10. I have to say I am very impressed with the proposed new student housing. Although I LOVE Laclede's and would hate to see it go, I hope it would have a rebirth elsewhere next to campus. The new housing looks beautiful and would really help revitalize a dead part of the off campus area, right across from the village. Excellent move SLU. Excellent. Love it.
  11. Excuse me, thinks? The Anthem is a "formality"? I guess I have spent the last 13 months defending your sorry ass right to say such ignorant and arrogant statements such as that which fall under the mantra of "freedom of speech." The National Anthem gives myself and any other vetern of Iraq, or any other war for that matter, or any American for Christ's sake, chills everytime. No matter how many times I've heard it before. It's a shame some such as you have such disrespect the Anthem, and in turn, those who have sacraficed to keep it the greatest country in the world.
  12. The only reason Obama hasn't been investigated is because the press won't do it. They have too much invested in the "Messiah." The put all their chips behind him when they openly diverged from any sort of journalistic integrity and support him. Obama is no different then any Illinois politician, regardless of party. He's just as crooked. Look at Rezko. The writing is on the wall. I love IL but our politics are awful...and now we have one in the Presidency. Lincoln must be rolling over in his grave.
  13. 1. UT 2. OU 3. USC 4. TT 5. Fla 6. Alabama 7. Penn st. 8. Utah
  14. Ok ok MVC/A-10 debate is like bringing up abortion at a dinner party - apparently not a good idea.
  15. The most important thing in games like this against awful teams are the following: 1. Get the win. 2. Build confidence by winning by a large margin 3. Don't get anyone hurt We did all 3. I'm happy despite the poor offensive output. Good win.
  16. Students no longer have an excuse not to come to the games. $10 a ticket is very little to ask, especially compared to other schools. The arena is RIGHT ON CAMPUS!! Of course, as with all sports, the better we do, the more student fans come out. The BC game was AWESOME. If only we could have that type of crowd the entire season. The student section was rockin.
  17. Not one of those are rivals for us...nor do they have any potential to be...except maybe Xavier, despite the fact they have Cincy and Dayton as more natural rivals. We would be a 3rd string rival at best. Look at all major rivalries in college sports. All are in the same division (Michigan/Ohio St., Duke/NC, USC/UCLA). Hardly ever in college sports is a team's "rival" 1,000 miles away. It was poor decision on so many levels to join the A-10 (travel, financially, TV, etc, etc, etc), even if they are playing slightly better then the MVC. I'd much rather cultivate an inter-confrence rivalry with SIU-C or Missouri St. or something like that as they are our only realistic rivals. Fans could travel to opponents stadiums and folks in the St. Louis area (many who have gone to MVC schools) would actually have some interest in the conference games. Seriously, outside of us on the board, I can count on one hand who has interest in a SLU-LaSalle, SLU-Richmond, SLU-St. Bonnies, SLU-Fordham game. Even if we are playing a low level MVC team such as Illinois St-SLU, I guarentee there are at least a few St. Louis residents from ISU to be interested in the game.
  18. The point I was making was in terms of geographic rivalries, not necessary who is up and who is down in any particular year. The A-10 doesn't lend itself well to natural rivalries based on proximity.
  19. Oh Kool-aid drinkers of Billiken land. Always blaming the refs, ripping the Valley (despite its dominance over the A-10 and the idiotic decision to join it), and not realizing that while we have talent and a future (I'm more confident then any year under Brad S.), we SUCK this year. Liddell is a huge disappointment, Lisch, for whatever reason, isn't playing up to his potential, no matter how scrappy he is, and the Brad S. years have decimated the program beyond recognition. We are back on the right track with Rick Ma and the stadium and the new recruits, but this year, we blooooooooow.
  20. I really hope this is just another dirty SLU-mer as Laclede's is an absolute staple of the SLU experience. My four college years wouldn't have been the same without it. Oh the work you could do on the girls there made me feel like John D. Rockafeller. Every Friday afternoon for happy hour was a must. Packed and the perfect place to start the weekend. And then of course there was the stumble from Humps to Laclede's with some saucy sori-tute. God I loved that place.
