  1. Well, Lisch has always stepped up his play in big games, i.e. last year's thrilling Xavier game @ the Scott, but I just don't see that spring in his step. That being said, I'm not dogging his dedication and commitment.
  2. I don't want to dog Kevin Lisch for what he's done for our program. He has been the epitome of a student-athlete on the NCAA Division I level; an underrated player in an underrated conference. However, given the fact that Stephen Crane could write a book about how this guy has battled through injuries, has he hit the proverbial wall? I know coach puts these guys through the gauntlet as far as conditioning goes, but do you think that mentally, given all of KL's injuries over the year, that he's "checked out?" I have no idea what it's like to be a D-I player or anything, so please don't be upset with me asking this. Thanks.
  3. Absolutely, Doc. That is one of the most overlooked injuries encompassing all levels of sport. Look at Tedy Bruschi. Guy suffers a stroke and is cleared to play...Mass General Doc's must have some cash on the Pats at Mohegan Sun!!
  4. There's no denying the contributions of a lot of people on this board. I will be the first one to tell you that when I get to a certain tax bracket that my contributions will double. I think that it will be hard for a handful of people to raise their hands to get everyone up -- maybe it should come from the players?? I always will remember Phil Hunt imploring people to get up, waving that towel in the air like a helicopter. Maybe we are a mid-major team in a mid-major conference, but let's not act like mid-major fans. Let's show some bravado and give the establishment a run for their money.
  5. I'm sure it has a lot to do with Richmond's travel arrangements than anything. Not like College GameDay was in town and the highlighter store closed early due to Digger being in town. That's Digger.
  6. THAT'S NOT THE POINT!!! It's not about me, it's about the efforts of all of us. It's piss poor. I'm sure I speak for the group when I say I've made a few games hung to the roof and not feeling too hot after a night on the town, but I cheer anyway! I'm appalled you try to spin this back at my face, 72. You work for Obama?
  7. That's a hell of a departure from the six or so that showed up for Senior Day last year. "Thank you, Luke" could barely be heard over the "Cold Beer...Bud Light" calls by the vendors. Unacceptable for all ages. It's not picking on old guys. I'm calling out everyone. Let's be perfectly clear on that. I'm not a big donor like Roy, but I come to the games not to be seen, but to BE HEARD.
  8. Roy, the point is not about leaving early, it's about supporting your school. I don't know if SLU is your alma mater or if you have kids that go to SLU, etc., but you pay for season tickets because there's a part of you, deep down inside, that wants to believe that this year (or any year for that matter) is going to be special. My sister will graduate from Bradley in May with that 2006 Sweet Sixteen run by BU as a lasting memory of her undergrad days. I'm pretty lucky to have had that magical 2004 NIT run and made a bus trip with Blue Crew up to Ft. Wayne for the Notre Dame game, but my sister HATES college basketball. She doesn't make an ass out of herself on Bradley message boards, she doesn't go to Jimmy's Pub three hours before every game like I do at Humphrey's to talk hoops with complete strangers. Bottom line is that I would give my right hand for sniffing the Sweet Sixteen. I would ask the Good Lord to strike me dead to show the Chaifetz Arena on Selection Sunday with five thousand people in there watching the CBS broadcast and when Greg Gumbel says, "the 8th seed Billikens..." the whole place freaking erupts. There would be tears running down my face, Roy. I love Saint Louis University and all the things I will be able to do in my lifetime with my degree. When Fr. Biondi challenged us to be sons of this institution, he didn't meant to half-ass it. He didn't mean for the alumni population of Saint Louis University to abandon her message of being men and women for others. As I see it, this applies to all aspects of life -- from service to others, spreading the message of St. Ignatius of Loyola, even by supporting our athletic teams. They play with a purpose -- we should root for them with a purpose. They are playing for all the guys who have worn that Billiken jersey -- guys like Clagget and Highmark and Bonner -- who I'm sure you've seen walk off the court with a lot of red mixed with that beautiful Billiken blue. Look at a guy like Lisch -- he plays like his life is on the line every game. Whether that attributes to him having a career night or not, you have to respect and applaud the dedication he has given the program. He's our Derek Jeter. He's got the intangible tools that makes a guy like Rick Majerus want to be associated with him and to give him the support he needs from a coach with more connections than Ameren UE. Players see Lisch and want to emulate his style of play. It's a shame that a school that has been around since the time of Christ has a bar that has been around for 32-33 years as a "Tradition," but such is life. We have to be a positive fan base. I'm tired of excuses from old people, but I respect that you have given back to the program and your school. That is commendable and that serves as an example to young alums as well, but for God's sake, if you don't want to cheer and be heard, don't come to the games. When we ever get a game on ESPN, your complacency will be seen on national television. Dick Vitale has been body-surfed through the Cameron Crazies and he's pushing 70. There's no excuse. Let's all be PTP'ers, baby. Go BILLS! I love all of you. Let's turn Chaifetz into Hell's Staging Area.
  9. A friend of mine who lives in Las Vegas went into the Findlay Scion/Toyota dealership the other day to look at a new vehicle and the salesman who greeted him was this guy: That's right. 1994 National Player of the Year, Ed O'Bannon of the University of California at Los Angeles. Oh, how the mighty have fallen... He said he had his ring on from the year they beat Arkansas in Seattle (I believe that was the 1995 Final Four).
  10. That lifting has apparently messed up that hair-trigger release of a jump shot we saw last year. Who gave Dr. Paul the order not to shoot the ball? The same guy who ordered the Code Red? SHOOT THE BALL, PAUL!
  11. Roy, obviously you aren't as big of a fan as I thought. The arms folded look is good at a poker table, but not at Chaifetz Arena. Let's root on our boys! I'm challenging all of you. Come to the games not because you have to, but because you WANT TO!
  12. It's beyond bad. It's an epidemic. No one gets up. Three point plays used get the crowds going and no one stands up when we get a huge flush dunk. Growing up in Peoria and going to Bradley games at Carver Arena, it's a social thing. It's the "see and be seen" crowd of flashy attorneys, CAT people and BU admins. It's the same way at my alma mater. I went from rooting on BU as a Peoria native to going to a school were hopefully people get into the games. Guess I should have gone to a game before my freshman year.
  13. I'd love to see some of those old game day programs!!!
  14. Could it be a cosmonaut instead? I freaking love the Soviet space program!!
  15. I will probably be banned again for this post, but I am going to direct my frustration not at our head coach, not at his recruiting efforts, not at any of our players -- but at you, the fan. I have made all the home games except the UMass game (late night at the office) and I have rudely been asked to "sit down" at the Kent State game, the BC game, the GW game and yesterday's pitiful game against Richmond. "Sit down," yells some Lute Olson Look-Alike winner, as I applaud the hustle of Dr. Paul Eckerle. "I can't see," yells Kenny Roger's brother who also looks like a hybrid of Bob Seger, Michael McDonald and Walter Becker. When has standing up and cheering on the Bills been a crime? Here's a theory -- the way the crowd gets into it directly effects the way our team plays. When we boo, they're probably going to respond in kind. But when we use the two legs (hopefully) the Good Lord Jesus Christ gave us, clap our two hands in unison and rock the Chaifetz Arena, we're going to get a positive response from the Boys in Blue. We all know Humphrey's runs a shuttle to the games, but when did Delmar Gardens start running theirs? I know a lot of older people are big donors, etc. They have their place and a right to sit in comfy chairs and schmooze with their class of '57 friends. But the young alums need to get off their asses and cheer. I'm all for respecting your elders, but this is Saint Louis University Basketball -- not bingo night at the YMCA. GET UP AND CHEER I love all of you, Metz
  16. The Billikens. Men Boys at Work. Have a Vegemite sandwich for me!
  17. Let's hang in there, Bills! We can win in Philly!!
  18. Don't forget the Ragin' Woodies of John Wood Community College in Quincy!!!
  19. - Was the shirt Majerus had on tonight a different shade of black or was it just me? It's unreal the fashion statements this guy makes game after game. Might be the funniest comment ever made on Billikens.com Well done, sir. Well done.
