  1. I would think anyone between tiers 2-4 should be able to be had for 1.5-1.9 mill a year. I'd rather see that type of structure where the extra 600k-1mm goes more to the NIL side of things and gives room for a raise WITH success.
  2. I just feel like Schertz is being somewhat overrated this cycle. I think he is a good candidate, but he is a coach who has never experienced the NCAA tournament. Moser, Mack > Schertz.
  3. I had a great time during the Sean McDonald era.
  4. Wonder what that's like. Also, like you, I am not as high on DeVries. Schertz or Wardle are my picks if its an MVC coach. I, like you, think Schertz might shoot higher but it also depends how this season finishes. He has been basically playing 6 dudes all year and now has had a couple injuries that led to road bumps. Swope is playing with a bad wheel or two that will require surgery after the season so we'll see if they can patch him up. Avila will be a big $$ free agent this offseason, but would be best suited going with Schertz because he's the kind of guy you have to build an offense around. Outside of that offense, he isn't nearly as valuable. Wardle rebuilt an absolutely toxic dumpster fire into a perennial contender in the MVC and has 2 tournament appearances as well. Bradley's status was worse than the current SLU status when he got there.
  5. They aren't experts in the field of college basketball coaching contract terms. They are given that information from the dude that gets paid a lot of money to be an 'expert' in that field.
  6. I get what you're saying, but they have bad judgement then too. How can you like someone who squanders millions of your money?
  7. Nah. This is a big boy business. FIRE HIM and shame him. He cost the school 12.5 million dollar buyout from gross incompetence of not having ANY clue on the current market conditions in his only sport that matters. Just for shoots and giggles, 12.5 million is about half the annual athletics budget. That is how bad he fuoked this all up.
  8. Folks that want to even discuss hiring an NBA assistant for the SLU coaching position don't want SLU to be successful. Ahearn has zero relevant experience to being the head coach for a high level Division 1 basketball program. Look at Jerry Stackhouse for how "but he won the G-league blah blah blah" works out.
  9. Not with the contract and guarantees he reportedly has. There is an argument to be made that some low major coaches would be well served to dump some of their salary into an NIL fund to get higher level players and move on up.
  10. He is probably a guy that could get 200 on the open market. But he is a 4th option on a top 25 team. This roster construction put him as #1/2 option and that leads to a bad team.
  11. If the numbers I’ve heard are right, SLU is in the top tier of the A10 from an NIL dollars perspective. Just another false excuse from Travis.
  12. This is what all schools need to be doing, frankly. There is a reckoning that has arrived at a lot of places already and is coming for all. There are lower high school graduating classes. Lower applicant pools. More people saying "Wait why wouldn't I go to a trade union apprenticeship and make 60-70k by the time I am 21?" Multi million dollar budget deficits are wiping out useless programs all over the country. Some of these being triggered by defaults on debts for lack of revenue because of that declining enrollment. It isn't going to be a pretty place in higher education over the next decade, I assume.
  13. If Lindenwood gets a Humphreys, might as well shut SLU down totally.
  14. Eh it is a national "news" story about SLU so its a very legitimate thread. The weird thing is that there are people among us that think like this.
  15. Don't forget national top 10 high school recruit and Travis Ford coached Marcus Smart too. And small-time-thinkers' potential coaching candidate Blake Ahearn.
  16. Would never happen, but Soderberg would have tremendous value as one of these newly-allowed staff positions that can coach/scout.
  17. Good. Gets him away from the worst coach in the league.
  18. Maybe this team just needs to only play in gyms with ceiling hung baskets. Add it to Travis's Great List of Excuses!
  19. I think you're right on the Enfield thing. He feels too Travis Ford-y to me, personally. I also am not high on DeVries from Drake. I think hes #3 of the MVC coaches. He hasn't done much without his kid and a bunch of 23-26 year olds on his roster. A lot of this will depend on what all opens up as well. If Louisville, tOSU, Minnesota, Iowa, Arkansas, Alabama, etc. open up it will send a lot of spots spinning.
  20. If I am going just off that list I think... Home run - Porter, Mack. Realistic and/or solid hire - Drew, Wardle, Schertz, Holtmann, McCollum, Devries, Henderson, Byington Don't think they're going anywhere/unrealistic- Beilein, Brey, Wright, Turgeon, Kelsey Need to prove more - Wicks, Kerns, McMillan, Simon, Morrell, Lutz Retread no thanks - Hurley, Enfield, No thanks on any of the other NBA assistants. SLU isn't hiring a current college assistant either.
  21. Dan Muller did terribly at his alma mater and I am not sure he has an interest in coaching again. Bryan Mullins is closer to being fired at SIUc than he is to moving onto a bigger job. That won't stop his dad from promising recruiting pipelines from his marginal AAU program to anyone that hires him, though!
