  1. Brian Grawer...HECK NO! But Kramer can play ball. I would say he is more of an undersized two guard than a one, but he does have range and he definitely has game. SLU is recruiting Bryant Allen and actually there was a coach from SLU in the stands Saturday evening. Bryant has received interest, and yes I know interest means little but it is something, from Georgetown, Clemson, Mizzou, SLU, Carbondale and Purdue.
  2. He has already been assured by most of the progrmas that have offered him and are recruiting him that he has nothing to worry about. They have pretty much said all he needs to focus on is getting healed fully. I seriously doubt this will affect his recruiting but it just makes some personal goals he set a little tougher to achieve.
  3. DT left the Chaminade game early as did a few of the coaches. To make sure they got to Whitfield in time. When I left the gym there were still a few coaches at Pattonville.
  4. He plays the high post and gets very few touches in a position where he can score. As far as rebounding his team is chucking shots up from wherever they touch it so he rarely had an opportunity to get into rebounding position. Coach was also watching Jesse Perry from Gateway Tech play.
  5. I was sitting with all of the black people not named Suggs. Which one of them was Nate's twin? Unless you are talking about "Squiggy" then that is just bad eyes...lol. I thought the game was interesting. I wish they would have put the ball in Scott's hands more often instead of constantly running the offense away from him time after time.
  6. >Dont sleep on the local big man from Missouri Steven Hill. >He'll shot SIU something before this game is over. I'm not >gonna say Brad missed on him by not offering. I'll let you >judge for yourself. SLU didn't have a chance. He chose Arkansas over Kansas and Mizzou.
  7. ...I strongly disagree with your statement.
  8. What is wrong with Angres Thorpe? I guess he should get a bulk of the Ian credit since he is the big man coach, and you want to give SLU credit for his development.
  9. Since it is in print I will now tell you that Matt has been working with JB for awhile, and they will pick it up again as soon as the season is over. BIG JUNIOR EMERGES AS MAJOR The fact of the matter is, if you're 6-11 and only a junior, you're going to get good looks. But size alone doesn't mean schools will keep coming back. You have to have some skill, athletic ability and potential. Just outside of St. Louis at Creve Couer (MO) DeSmet Jesuit, John Brandenburg has already displayed that he has the requisite size, skills and more to become a high-major target. "North Carolina, Wake Forest, Stanford, Wisconsin, Missouri, Saint Louis, Florida, Kansas and a bunch of others have been out to see me," Brandenburg told PrepStars.com. "I've already got offers from Wisconsin, Missouri, Virginia, Saint Louis and Purdue. Stanford has basically offered, I just have to pass admissions." A long and wiry-strong center who runs the floor like a much smaller player, Brandenburg first gained notice as a rising sophomore with a strong showing at the Adidas Top 10 camp. After a solid sophomore season at DeSmet, he kept it rolling last summer while anchoring the middle for the St. Louis Eagles. Because he's confident in his abilities and understands the premium placed on big men who can run, Brandenburg isn't necessarily surprised by the early offers. "With what people were telling me they were hearing, I kind of expected it," said Brandenburg. "It seems kind of cocky to say it, but I've worked hard for it." More recently, Brandenburg has been hooking up with former SLU player Matt Baniak, who has played professionally overseas. The two work on a progression of post moves, improving his footwork and just his all-around skills. Blessed with soft touch around the rim and quick hops, he'd like to be able to face up a bit more. "I can shoot pretty well and I've been working on my dribbling a lot lately," said Brandenburg. "People say I'm tall and that I don't need to do that stuff, but I'd like to be able to beat people off the dribble too." For the time being, Brandenburg remains wide open and is hoping he'll have the type of season to add more offers to his list. As for what he'll look for when he starts to narrow things down, it's the kind of things you'd expect from a high level prospect and great student. "Academics are important, obviously, but I really want to play for a team that can develop me," said Brandenburg. "What I really want is to take my game to the next level. Everybody talks about trying to make it to the League, but I really want to find a place that will develop my game to hopefully make that next step."
  10. Heels Scouting St. Louis Post Player Premium Story By Eric Bossi Posted Nov 10, 2006 As North Carolina appears to be taking a pass on the class of 2007 -- at least for the early signing period -- the Tar Heel staff has been hard at work scouting the class of 2008. The search has taken the Tar Heel staff all across the country and one of their stops has been Creve Couer (Mo.) DeSmet to check in on six-foot-eleven inch big man John Brandenburg. A long and mobile big who plays in the summer for the same St. Louis Eagles program that produced current Tar Heel Tyler Hansbrough, Brandenburg has been targeted by several high profile programs. Having already drawn offers from the likes of Wisconsin, Missouri, Virginia, St. Louis, Stanford and Purdue, the agile big man has also received visits from the coaches representing North Carolina, Wake Forest, Florida and Kansas among others. “I think I’m pretty athletic and I can run really well,†Brandenburg told Inside Carolina. “I try to compete hard on every play and I think I have more skills than people know about.†Weighing in at 225 pounds, the long limbed big man does a good job of blocking shots and corralling rebounds at their highest points. He’s got good hands, can shoot the ball fairly well to 12 feet and has an expanding skill set that allows him to beat other big men off the dribble. In spending time working on his post game, he says that he tries to blend the games of Hansbrough and another highly touted ACC big man. “I strive to play a Josh McRoberts slash Tyler Hansbrough type of game,†says Brandenburg. “I like the athleticism of McRoberts’ game and the way he can face up the basket and I try to combine it with Tyler’s power game around the hoop.†According to Brandenburg, various members of the Tar Heels’ staff have already seen him play and are continuing to track his progress. “Coach Robinson came out to watch me in an open gym before practice started,†said Brandenburg. “Roy Williams saw me during the summer at the Peach Jam so that was good exposure for me.†Still early in the process, Brandenburg is far from deciding favorites. He feels good about the high level of offers he’s already received but wants to see if he can take his game to an elite level. “They (North Carolina coaches) said they are going to come out for a game but it seems like Florida is a little more interested,†said Brandenburg, who is planning on attending the Heels Dec. 22nd game at St. Louis University. “Schools like North Carolina, Florida and Kansas are interested, but they want to see me step it up before they start offering.†With plenty of time left to improve and a solid base, Brandenburg has a simple goal for his junior season. If he can do what he’s planning, he figures getting more offers won’t be much of a problem. “I’m trying to keep it simple,†said Brandenburg. “I just want to get at least five points and three rebounds a quarter. I think if I do that the rest will take care of itself.â€
  11. That is pretty harsh, but I have seen how St. Louis treats it's alumni. So my question is how many games has this great St. Louisian Larry Hughes come to? What has he done to help out the program since he has left?
  12. A strong majority of the players I know have Carbondale ranked ahead of SLU, because of the coach and the winning tradition.
  13. Definitely not the first option. I really won't get excited about the season until the first exhibition game comes around. Or the first player verbals.
  14. Good I thought I lost my mind, because I was at West Pine on Thursday watching practice. I have no comments now, because I know we are nowhere close to the finished product but they are definitely working on some things.
  15. >I guees leading the Nike Jamboree in scoring and getting >invited to and playing in the NIke Camp mean nothing. >You're right Powell is a bum. NOT!! It just looks as if he >wants to play close to home. If he led the Hoop Jamboree in scoring why wasn't he invited to the Nike Camp that year. He is the first person to lead the Hoop Jamboree in scoring and not get invited to the Nike Camp straight outta the Jamboree. And he is nowhere near 6'7"
  16. If you are referring to me as the AAU guru, which I am not, I have seen the best senior in the area play and his name is not Leon Powell. There are about 4 or so seniors that I would say are better than him: Marvin McNutt Josh Harrellson Zach Plackemeier Paul Eckerle Rolandis Woodland
  17. Rakers was offered by Western IL and Jesse has offers from Carbondale, MO State, IL State, Western IL and a few others.
  18. Here are list of some of the Juniors in the area with D1 offers and players who are going to be D1 players: With offers John Brandenburg De Smet Scott Suggs Washington High School Jesse Perry Gateway Tech High School Torres Roundtree McCluer North Femi John McCluer North Anthony Booker McCluer North Brett Thompson Vienna High School (Not really St. Louis area) Drew Hanlen Webster Groves High School Ron Waller Fort Zumwalt West Jared Swopshire IMG Academy Sean Rakers Wesclin High School Kramer Soderberg St. Charles West High School Lots of interste and should end up with offers Courtney Belger Gateway Tech High School Kenny Harris Gatewat Tech High School Deon Hemphill McCluer North Josh McCoy Fort Zumwalt South Zach Redel Webster Groves High School Abel Tillman Berkely/ McCluer South Dezmon Hickman Collinsville High School Antonio "Chicken" Campbell McCluer South/ Berkely I might be missing a couple, but now you know why Coach Soderberg said this class is rich with talent.
  19. >OJ have you heard any news about Alexander? I haven't heard anything that I can comment on.
  20. To all of you people who like Leon Powell so much and think he is someone SLU need: 1 What does he do well? 2 How would he fit into Brad's system (new or old)? 3 What does he bring to the table?
  21. Actually my friend that I talked to in the JUCO community that gave me the information told me yesterday that it might not be a done deal. He told me about it the verbal a few days ago and I waited to make sure nothing would change before announcing it, but last night when I was talking to my JUCO guy he said that he is still confident that he will stay with SLU but there are a few hoops that he might have to clear first as far as what the people closest to him think might be best and so on.
  22. From what I understand SLU got a verbal commitment from Rodney Alexander. He is a 6'7" 220 pound athlete from Redlands CC. I don't think the Bills have had a player like this since the current staff has been here. He is a 3/4 and he was sought after by a variety of schools including Big Ten schools.
