  1. I was at the Open House and you made a very good summary and I agree with most of what you have said. I noticed the seats seemed sort of small and not a lot of leg room.....but that can be a good thing. I don't think we want a place that is like our living room loungers. I want the fans out of their seats and standing most of the night at the games. I think the tightness of things will be of benefit to increase a great atmosphere. Have you ever been to a game at KU's Allen Fieldhouse.....don't go there if you want any personal space! But I don't think the KU fans mind at all! The Billiken Band better be ready to tighten up their space used also! No more using an entire section to spread out with music stands and massive drum equipment. I don't think I remember ever seeing other school's pep bands have the sheet music or music stands in front of them at games? I think you are right also about the corner scoreboards.....they are okay but I think those corner scoreboards were cost cutting moves with keeping the ceiling low.......let's not give Father too much credit for the brilliant idea of the scoreboards. But I do like that the ceiling low to the floor......that creates the intimacy of the place too.....and that fan noise might bounce right off that ceiling and back down on the court! I would think there will be added touches relative to Billiken history and such in the concourse with due time. Can't wait to see that place rockin with a packed house in November!!
  2. I think he would be terrific! Frank, how 'bout it?????? We want you!
  3. More attention in the media for SLU!! http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/131614.html
  4. A lot of times people drag Borgia into the controversies of recruiting and such. There's just not much truth to that. A couple years ago, when Borgia won the state championship, the entire Borgia roster was made up of boys whose fathers had played at Borgia. Pretty much the same families of athletes and students there have been attending Borgia for generations. Borgia's success comes from parents and faculty that care and kids that are motivated.
  5. I have been going to Billiken games for 15 years and have NEVER paid to park.....or maybe just 50 cents or so to feed the meter! Street parking is free after 7pm on weekdays and free on weekends.......walk a few blocks!
  6. I asked one of the clueless SLU marketing guru's what happened to the Pre-Game Prayer. He said "It doesn't fit in to the time script". I laughed and told him, "Oh, but now we have time for some corporate sponsor's silly "Move of the Game" where someone in the upper deck acts excited about moving to the bottom deck. Just another commercial that we are bombarded with at games nowadays. I always thought the pre-game prayer was a nice touch and something unique to SLU. It was one thing that let the crowd know that SLU is a religious based institution. Just because Fr. Eugene may be in failing health does not mean the prayer has to go away!! Bring back the prayer!
  7. So what has happened to the prayer before the game? Myself and my group of friends always thought that was a sort of unique SLU tradition that was a nice touch. I asked one of the marketing staff what happened to it. Their response "It didn't fit in to the script time". I laughed and told him.....you can't spare 30 seconds! My gosh....they have time for all that other crap and one irritating commercial after another. And speaking of irritating.....please take the microphone away from that loser with the blonde wig that gets way too much time on the court and yells till your ears hurt. If he has to be on the court.....someone just tell him to stop yelling! The game day atmosphere never seems to get any better. Please don't let the blonde wig loser on the court and embarrass St. Louis during the North Carolina game!!!!!! And I can't wait till we get to the new SLU Arena so that the Scott Trade Center people can stop telling us to leave immediately. The PA announcement twice, even before the game was over, told us to get out of the building quick! Boy that is gratitude for showing up and spending your money and supporting the team.
  8. I have 2 great College Cup tickets for sale for both the semifinals and finals. They are in Section 118, Row O for face value of $25 each for Semifinals or $25 each for the Finals. 314-435-1880
  9. But I guess I am starting to get used to it?!?!?
  10. I am not the one that said it took 30 seconds for a page to load. I did say though, it is much slower than before. It takes about 5 seconds longer than it used to to open a page. The point is......there is a new/recent problem with this board and it is frustrating.
  11. ......and I never had a problem with the Billiken.com website until last week or so when I found there was a new Billiken message board. And my work internet service has always worked fine also. There is an some kind of new problem with this board's website!!!!
  12. I checked out the website for the first time in a few weeks earlier this week. That is the first time I noticed there was a new message board......and that is when I noticed it being VERY slow in opening up postings. It's the same on my home computer and my work/office computer.
  13. .....or is it taking anyone else much, much longer to open the postings since the new board was set up?
  14. Does anyone know what hotel in Cincy the team and SLU fans are mostly staying?
  15. Before the Marquette game, the SGA had a pep rally on SLU's campus and I picked up a blue t-shirt with the huge SLU on the front and the Billiken face on the back. A lot of the students are wearing them now. Anyway, I have had several people tell me they really liked the shirt and asked me to get them one or where I got it. Does anyone know if I can still get these shirts or where to get them? ....and I don't think the answer is the SLU bookstore. They have never had anything desirable there in years. By the way, I also have been asking the SLU bookstore and the Savvis people if they could start selling a SLU car flag to put on the car on the way to games.....of course, that seems to way out there for the SLU marketing/merchandising dept to think of! ....or how about a promotion to give car flags away at a Billiken game??
  16. Only 5,000 people and you have traffic jams getting in and wait forever getting out of the stinkin parking lot. Only one street to access or leave the place. Incredible that they built that building in a spot like that. What would it be like if they ever had 10,000 people at that place. Have they ever had a sellout for any kind of event? I won't even get in to the embarrassing scoreboard operator and timekeeper, the three point lines and all the rest. Can't wait till the Bills get their own arena!!
  17. You picked a really bad example to make your point! Iowa and Iowa State meet every year in basketball and football. And Iowa also plays Northern Iowa and Drake most years. Iowa doesn't seem to be afraid of the same things that Mizzou is?!?!?!? The NIT probably didn't pair Iowa and Iowa State together again because it happens every year.
  18. Not all schools duck their in state rivals like Mizzou. Nebraska is playing at Creighton in the NIT. The arrogance of Mizzou in cancelling the SLU series and with them refusing to play SLU in the NIT is amazing. I could give you a list of 20 or 30 big name schools....bigger than Mizzou.... that play their in state rivals.
  19. Was disappointed that the Billiken event before the Marquette game was in Clayton. Why in the heck wasn't that thing someplace close to Savvis?? It's hard enough to get to games on time sometime after work, much less trying to get to Clayton first and then to the game. Wouldn't it have been great to have it at Krieger's at Union Station and then walk over to the game? Or how about post game radio shows with Soderberg at Krieger's. I will never forget how fun it was to go over and celebrate a big victory with Coach Spoon and the radio show after a game at Union Station.
  20. My group of season ticketholders groan when we get to the game and hear that Mike Owens is the PA announcer. His voice is boring and slow and he has no ability to do anything but read from a script. We had to laugh when he screwed up the Marilyn Nolen/volleball coach announcement....at least try to cover up the mistake and be a little extemporaneous. We all appreciate Guy Phillips flexibility to the situations at hand and his professional sounding voice.
