  1. Also they weren't expanding at the time. The B1G was the only conference that had explicitly stated they were looking to add teams.
  2. Jeff Goodman said Howland would have accepted the job had we offered it, and Gregg Marshall met with Alden about the position but felt that the timing wasn't right to leave WSU (son is a senior in HS, top ten team coming back next year). Who else was mentioned (aside from the Jay Wright rumor which was just a flightaware joke) that was unrealistic?
  3. When everyone wanted Mizzou in the Big 10 the SEC wasn't seen as an option. Most people are ecstatic about the move to the SEC. Alden also doesn't get all the credit for the move, as Brady Deaton had a lot to do with it.
  4. I would guess that so long as football is successful Alden's seat isn't too hot.
  5. I think the staff is going to be critical, too.
  6. The general feeling was that if you were over 40 you wanted Kim, if you were under 40 you wanted anybody else. I don't doubt that he's a great X's and O's coach, but Bo Ryan is the only example of someone making the jump from a lower division and having massive success at D-1 that I can think of. Recruiting is also more and more about AAU ball at the D-1 level and I'm a little concerned with Kim's ability to create connections in that sphere. I'm sure he's a great dude with high character (and that's definitely something we should be looking for in a coach), but winning is also important and it remains to be seen whether he can do it at this level. We'll find out.
  7. Yeah I'm nervous we'll lose Gant and Wright, which would be a big blow. The one nice thing about now vs. when haith was hired is that the scholarship situation is a little more balanced and It won't be quite so much a magic act to get the classes going for sustained improvement. We've all known that next year was going to be a rebuilding year no matter who the coach was (in fact that's almost certainly why Haith left).
  8. I'm not irate about the hire but I think Mizzou could have done much better, especially with how clandestine the whole process was.
  9. Of course. We're all hoping he does. It's not guaranteed though.
  10. Why would Howland have been a disaster? I could easily see Anderson being a total failure. I could also see him being wildly successful (although I'm inclined to think the former is more likely). He's a total wildcard. His track record on recruiting for Norm is a lackluster one, and recruiting has changed quite a bit in the 15 years since he left the D-1 ranks.
  11. Or perhaps I googled "avatar" when coming up with my avatar and that was the thing i found funniest.
  12. It's an unattractive woman dressed up like an alien from "avatar."
  13. You sound like a meathead version of my dad.
  14. Gottlieb just tweeted that the NCAA considers weed and heroin to be worthy of the same suspension.
  15. I think it's kind of ridiculous that college athletes even get tested for recreational drugs.
  16. I don't think it'll be that doomsday but there is merit to wondering about how it affects basketball-only conferences. The B1G network opened the door and now all the big conferences are going to have massive paydays that only get higher from their football programs. The money gap could conceivably get much much wider in the next 20 years.
  17. I don't think Title IX is going anywhere, especially since it technically isn't only applied to athletics.
  18. I think it hurts schools that have both basketball and football but aren't in BCS conferences the most. That'd be a huge expense for smaller schools.
  19. The NCAA only cares about the tournament making a boatload of cash but really has less power than the BCS conference commissioners, since football drives all the big media contracts making these conferences seemingly limitless coin.
  20. Is the plan for it to apply to basketball? I feel like Slive only ever pushes football stuff.
  21. Wasn't aware of that. Apparently it's moot because Floyd "was never a candidate." Gotta love the coaching hire kabuki dance.
  22. Interestingly enough although he stepped down because of the allegations he was totally cleared of any wrongdoing apparently. The Tim Floyd brand screams impropriety but I guess the court of public opinion judges guilty even after proven innocent. That being said I don't think Floyd is the type of hire that really energizes a more and more uninterested fanbase.
  23. Nebraska went 19-13 this year, just so we're clear. Mizzou has some of the best facilities in the country, and "recent success" apparently doesn't include the last two years?
