  1. Kimmie is probably a pretty good guy and I'm sure I'd be happy with him as my coach if I was GM. But he's still got a lot of Mizzou stink on him and I won't forget he basically told a local radio station that he/they thought of SLU as their little brother when asked a question about playing us. Payback will be fun.
  2. Regarding injury risk for players that come back vs. those that go pro...I think it all depends on what level pro you are playing at. The likelihood of injury should basically be considered the same whether you are playing professionally or in college. At one end of the spectrum you have 1st round NBA draft picks that have major, guaranteed contracts that can't be terminated if they get hurt playing. On the other end of the spectrum you have season by season, maybe even game by game, contracts in smaller European countries where you could get hurt and they'll cut you the next day (and maybe wouldn't even help pay your medical expenses). It's brutal on the lower-end of the pro spectrum. Goodwin would obviously be in the middle and that is for him and his family to figure out just where in the middle, but he's not going to be getting 3 year guaranteed salaries for $400k+ like Ratliffe. Getting a $40k scholarship plus NIL cash may be fairly compelling for him at this point.
  3. I took it to be that SLU has a lot of good players and playing time is not guaranteed.
  4. I'm no fan of Cuonzo/Mizzou, but he did take over a 10 win or so Kim Andersen team and take them to the NCAA tourney the next year when he was hired. He did it on the promise of playing with Michael Porter Jr., but it was still a major turn-around. This transfer market and available playing time is tailor made for him. Take McKissic. He may prefer Ford and SLU, but Cuonzo is going to rightly point out that Yuri is the starting PG, Gibson and Thatch are going to play a lot and Perkins is going to take most of the shots. Also, no chance Cuonzo gets fired after taking a team that was predicted 10th in the SEC into the NCAA tourney.
  5. I'm with you on this one. Let's assume we have 4 schollys to give because we get one transfer away. In a dream world, I'd go with McKissic, a PF/Center transfer and then two under the radar freshmen that are talented but don't expect playing time in their first year because they have been under-recruited.
  6. That list makes me so sad. And to think we were the lucky ones with Marquette to jump ship to the Great Midwest in 1991.
  7. I assume the APR is basically done at this point right? That farce of a tool was being used to judge graduation rates and the teams most affected were the ones that had a lot of transfers. Given that ALL teams are going to have transfers at this point, they should just do away with it.
  8. I wonder how it works with the NCAA units ($1.8mm per). If a team opts out, I assume they don't get paid and the replacement team does. If the game is forfeited do neither teams get the units for that game? Will CBS/TBS/TNT reduce the payout to the NCAA because fewer games were played? Are they really going to ask schools and their health departments to make 50/50 type decision in the grey area of contract tracing that are directly related to losing $1.8mm in revenue?
  9. Nor was he asked that. Do you have any real reason to believe he was at that party since you keep harping on it? Keep in mind he would have been at the SLU game till 9:30 or 10:00 and the bar should have closed at 11 PM per city regulations. It's quite possible they simply don't know who was patient 0 in the outbreak. It's also possible they do know and don't want to make it public as doing so would be the equivalent of throwing that person/player under the bus and it really doesn't achieve anything to do so.
  10. Game at 7 PM, ends at 9. Post game activities presumably till at least 10. I suppose it's possible he slipped over to the bar before it would have been required to close at 11 (I believe that was the bar curfew, but I don't really know) but that seems to be stretching it a bit.
  11. Well that was fun while it lasted. Now back to complaining about why the NCAA selection committee doesn't use the NET rankings exclusively...
  12. Hardly. A one-time transfer exemption for all players going forward will be approved within a year.
  13. There are theories out there that open free agency will help mid-majors as much as it hurts because disenfranchised players at P6 schools will want to transfer down to get playing time, but stuff like this is just a killer.
  14. I don't. Whining about not being selected never comes across well and it's not like pleading their case is going to change anything. Just say that you are disappointed but look forward to playing in the NIT.
  15. No need for anyone on here to argue or worry about the Michigan St.s of the world. Only thing that maters today is that Creighton, Colorado, Houston and Wichita St. winning. A blowout victory by San Diego St, probably wouldn't hurt either.
  16. Too many people on this board, and elsewhere, seem to believe Lunardi, Palm or any bracketologist have the exact right answer. It's like Lunardi says we are in, so we must be in, but if he drops us out, we must be out type mentality. Truth is they are just making educated guesses. At the start of play today it feels like we are about 50% likely. Wins by Creighton, Colorado, Houston and Wichita St. move that up 10-15% in my mind. Losses by Creighton or Colorado drop the percentage by 15% each. Even if today goes horribly, we still have a 20-30% chance. Because we don't know if we are really the first team out, last team in or what. We could be the last bye for all anyone knows. It's just an educated guessing game.
  17. You think average Joe fan that tuned into our nationally televised games on ESPN2 against Dayton and Saturday's CBS Sports game against St. Bonaventure thinks we fit the eye test?
  18. And it's only a source that says the NCAA has a bylaw??? How about somebody just pull up the rulebook and find the bylaw?
  19. Soooo.... basically none of the dozens of teams or talking heads on TV and radio that have been bantering about the idea of playing an extra game knew about this bylaw until just now? Something doesn't smell right with that.
  20. I think you are right. Duke quit because they were done anyway. Virginia needs to get their guys all into separate hotel rooms and keep the testing going daily so that they are still eligible for the tournament that really matters next week. Abundance of caution is right.
  21. I'm telling you it is a fact that any person in this country that gets COVID does not need to quarantine or test for COVID for the next 3 months after they get it unless they display symptoms. Contact tracing does not apply. For all practical purposes they are legally viewed as immune to the disease for those 3 months.
  22. They may well shut down the tourney, but given it generally takes a few days from exposure to the virus until it shows up as a positive on tests, it seems more likely to be a coincidence related to daily testing than something where the virus is actively being spread at the tournament site. Who know how this will shake out, but my guess is Virginia will still be able to play in the dance. If they test the remaining players for the next 7 days and they are negative they'll be following CDC guidance that if you test 7 days after exposure and are negative you don't need to quarantine any longer. Tournament could start Saturday for them and last exposure to the infected player was likely yesterday (or maybe this AM) so that is either 8 or 9 days.
