I think Wash U is closer in academical approach to other elite Universities in the Midwest, like U of Chicago, Northwestern, U of IL Urbana Champaign, than to the IVYs. I could see the creation of a midwestern, plus perhaps some elite Southern schools like Duke and U of VA, than a union with  the IVYs. Sports may become a problem with the creation of a Midwestern Elite league.

No way NW leaves the Big 10 or Duke the ACC.  The same for U of IL.

-doesn't that require the professors/instructors in the area where they are studying to stay? if say, studying nursing and there are no instructors what are they to do?

My guess is they could use adjuncts or maybe offer a financial incentive for some to stay or even pay to have those who have one year left to go someplace else if necessary.

  3. They have been in financial distress for some time now - like any situation like this eventually you just can't keep the lights on.  I have a niece whose husband in finishing up next year at the school so thankfully he can finish without having to transfer someplace else, but I do feel sorry for those who can't finish by next year.

I'm sure Ford already knows his fate. I'd rather see Harriman coach them in Brooklyn.

We know we can beat Rhode Island and we could very well take out Duquesne, too. The game against Dayton would be Thursday night. Can you imagine this announcement being dragged into the weekend?

God I hope not but if they are also waiting to see what happens with ISU then who knows it could go into the following week.

Porter was choice #1 around these parts too, but the word on the street is that his wife wants to move back home.

That was why he left us for Loyola - he could have waited around a year and had our job but she wanted back.  I wondered how going to OK was going to work out.

Major strikes against Drake: TV Market size of Des Moines, IA is #67, not in a major conference, they better win if they want in. If Southern Indiana loses, major strikes against them: TV Market size of Evansville, IN is #107, not in a major conference, they better not lose.

If you’re not in a major conference, the smaller your TV Market size, the higher your NET needs to be if you don’t win your conference. I guarantee everyone on the selection committee has that information readily at hand. (Of course they will deny it if asked, but that’s BS).

So did you just make an argument for why a guy like Shertz(?) would come here?

What makes you think that millionaires do not go broke? It all depends on how much they spend, many think there is no end to their money which is emphatically not the case, not as long as they depend upon a very large salary. You are young, of course, and know nothing about money, but the good times always end. Finally, you should give Ford at least a small level of respect and understanding. He is not having a good time currently. And just so you know, lots of major sports players retire with lots of money and wind up broke, this is not uncommon.

Yes there are pro sport athletes who do not manage their money well but I would not compare a basketball coach to them.  The coach has had to work his way up so he has a bit more experience in life to not make those kinds of mistakes.  Yes millionaires go broke - happens all the time with lottery winners but once again a person winning the lottery may not have had the opportunity to learn better habits.  Ford was smart enough to downsize a couple of years ago as his family got smaller so he has shown a certain about of financial acumen or at least he is smart enough to have someone advising him and he listened.  If he has been living paycheck to paycheck then he is not the kind of man I want as our head coach or leading young men - we need someone who is smarter than that.  As far as respecting him in tough times - tough times are relative.  Him losing his 2.5 million a year job is hardly a tough break especially since he has been earning well for many years.  If he spent it all then this is his fault not ours.  I once told someone that they are getting well paid but they will take every penny out of your hide - he later told me I was right.  Nobody pays very well without expectations so Ford got the money and he did not meet expectations so it is hardly a tough break.

He will stay as a HC for as long as he can. However what happens when the salaries offered become too low, or when he just gets no offers? He will still be alive and has to figure out what he is going to do. If you do not think head coaches may have no offers, or no acceptable offers after being let go from their positions, search what team is Cuonzo Martin coaching this season.

The guy has made multi millions so unless he just spent like a drunken sailor don't worry about him - he will be fine.

Bizz, after this season, I doubt very much that a potential job offer by SLU can be used as leverage for a P5 job, we are that low at this time.

Of course, a coach can use any potential offer as leverage for a salary raise.

Portapotties haven’t been touched since last week, and bathroom by the fields is locked.

May walks by and says hi.  Worthless POS.

Portapotties are usually on a contract with the company who owns them and they are suppose to service them.  Not sure what the contract calls for.

I have no idea if it's true or not but I think it makes perfect sense. If you are going to make a change it gets the ball rolling. It allows you to start the coaching search. Allows the players to enter the portal if that is their choice. Maybe a Tate led team wins a game or 2.

If true, I agree it does make sense - actually I would do it now.  I wonder if they already have had conversations with a potential coach and they want to beat others to the punch.  They may want to be able to go as soon as that guy is done with his tourney and not get caught in the coach rush.

I still think it is happening Saturday.  While in the hell would you fly Travis Ford with team Saturday night to New York to fire him the next day?

Well they already are in the State of NY so why come home for 2 days.  Take a bus from StB to NYCity.

This  is a good military briefing style analysis of what is wrong with the Bills. Please note that the leadership is identified as THE problem and that leaderships tend to do whatever is necessary and within their control to maintain their position and power. It is possible that May might decide to retain Ford with all the expense and all the incompetence issues involved to exercise a bit of personal CYA. This is an opinion, not a fact based upon analysis as your post is.

If May turned the money down last year to keep Ford then he is not in position to do it again if he wants to keep his job.  If the money as Tilly says is there then May will have no choice but to dump Ford as the only means to keep his job.

I apologize for the lack of detail, but I’ll let others provide more details on this if they wish to potentially implicate themselves. Anyway, earlier this season Trilly reported on something SLU related that, as I understand it, may have required his source to be in the building in order for him to know it.

Ok - I respect your situation.
