You and I have disagreed lately, but don't feed this troll.

Again, I think the way CM has ran the department culturally speaking is below average at best. He deserves a bit of credit for swallowing his pride and realizing he's not the smartest in the room.

I have no doubt he did swallow his pride but I can assure you he did not do it voluntarily.  He saw the train was leaving the station and he could be on it or left behind.  If one thing about May is true - people in general, they will survive.  I am not sure we have really disagreed on much lately maybe some nuances but basically we have been on the same page on this matter.  I have tried to respond to this poster with logical and respectful comments.  I see nothing wrong with that and his response to me has been respectful.

I am not a hater of this likely new coach.  I’m just guarded about it.  I don’t trust Chris May’s decisions and I feel Schertzs style might not fit our league.  And I think an actual search instead of just having 1 candidate might have been a better path.    If he does well I will be among the first to praise him.

I doubt May is driving this bus.  Chaiftz and others pulled this off.  There is evidence that someone else's fingerprints are all over this situation.  May's MO is to drag it out and take a very deliberate and slow decision making approach.  This moved with lightening speed.

Thats valid.   I am a defense first coach and I have an assistant who is almost a football style offensive coordinator.   I hope he does find that person for defense because I don't think they are on the Sycamore staff with him right now

It seems that is so but then I am sure the salaries the assistants will make more here than at ISU so he will be in a better situation to do so but we will have to see.

I mean I do coach kids but that’s not the point.  You draw all over your board to just inbound and jack a 3?  Plus allow a 9-0 run to lose basically in a home game.   Defense is not a strong point with this coach.  Maybe he’s innovative on offense but he sure wasn’t in the most critical moment.

Clearly defense is secondary to him but this why you have assistant coaches.  You hire one who knows defense and can teach it.  We will see what kind of coach he is as we watch him fill out his staff.

I have a sinking feeling he’s gonna stay at ISU. Those fans were crazy. Give him $700k and pay those guys to return, he may be thinking I can go deep in the dance. This may be my Billiken Paranoia coming to the fore, but I think we better be looking elsewhere unless we got him by the nuts legally.

If what we heard about the 2 million annual salary is true it would be tough to pass up - that is almost 3 Xs what they are offering.  As far as the NIL situation goes, he apparently got what he asked for - in fact someone posted that they were going to raise 3-400,000 for NIL is true then that also is well below us.  Now all that said, I would be remiss to not point out that I have been saying all along that until the announcement is made officially anything can happen.

I need to remember to come back to this thread when Schertz is moving on in a few years when I'm sure that everyone will be very composed and rational

Fair enough but this is not something that they just heard today it has been out there for pushing 3 weeks.  They surely have had enough time to be moving through the stages of grief by now.

    Misinformed for sure.

I understand that the ISU fans are upset but for the most part this Board has been supportive of the ISU NIT run this year when in reality it would have been in SLU best interest for them to have lost early.  The other issue that I find odd is are they really that naive to believe that Schertz was going to stay for a long time - even we understand that if he is successful he may be gone fairly soon from here.

I dont think they know anything directly or indirectly from Schertz. But they can see the characteristics of the players used in his 5 out style of play. They are also probably  unsettled by the delays.

I doubt that Tate is contacting all these portal players without some direction from Schertz.

We complain when freshman bigs who don’t make headlines at SLU go elsewhere, develop their skills, and find success.

BZ is at the very beginning of his career.   We have all seen that the TF coaching regime was never able to develop bigs.

Not so sure we should be celebrating BZ’s departure.

Don't you think if Schertz is really coming that the players already know who he wants to keep?  My guess is Bruce is not one of them.

More buyout money means likely more wins.

Not at all - I bet the 4 million goes back to the big donors who are paying Ford off.  Now you have to enter the coaching search again with a smaller pool of viable candidates who now have you over the barrel.

  11. 1 hour ago, billikenfan05 said:

Because it doesn’t really matter. If someone wants to pay $4 million, cool. We just made 2 ncaa tournaments without doing a damn thing. USC wants Muss, Arkansas isn’t going to go after Schertz. We’re still probably 4-5 days away from Arkansas zeroing in and whatever school they pillage entering the conversation. With every win the price tag on their players goes up and the more likely Schertz can’t keep this team together at ISU.

It does matter - fans want to win and getting the buyout money is not that important.

  12. I know people don't like hearing that the longer this goes on the less advantageous this is for SLU.  As time goes by and the pickings get slimmer that $4 million buyout becomes less of an issue.  I am not saying he isn't coming but time is our enemy.

-I don't know when all the hob nobbing takes place at the Final Four, but if it is at all of use I hope at the latest on Friday evening CJS is wearing SLU gear on a private jet to Phoenix to do whatever needs to be done which I imagine includes hiring assistants and talking schedule

I know a retired high school basketball coach who is in the Missouri Hall of Fame who went to the Final Four every year.  He told me that high school coaches who have traditionally have D1 players get free tickets from coaches.  According to him people approach them to recruit/curry favor and look for potential assistant coaches or assistant coaches look for jobs the entire time.  So, the networking is non stop according to him.  By the way when he retired the seats were much harder to come by.

not sure i understand the over the top love for harriman.   yes he brought a couple of nice players to slu when rickma was the coach.   after that he went to a couple of other schools and failed miserably.   he came back here this year and i am sure expectations were such he would bring us top foreign players.   how'd that work out?

i talked to him in myrtle beach.   he seems to be a very nice man.   and my conversation didnt appear to be forced or patronizing on his part.   but i just dont see the accomplishments that coach schertz would feel the need to have to have him on the staff.   if he did want him, fine.   other than tate, i really didnt have anyone i'd rather have.  and even tate, if coach schertz didnt find him as a good fit to his picture for his staff so be it.   move along.

I have thought this also - he really hasn't caught the lightning in a bottle that we all expected.

  16. The problem with Schertz leaving ISU being the best kept non secret out there is that the longer this goes on more behind he 8 ball ISU gets, his assistants and players who might want to leave and not come here.  Now all this assumes he is coming here.

Yes. Shameful what Irons did to him.

This is what happens when you let felons run public schools.

Irons for years would let kids go to school without uniforms if they paid him a dollar. He'd stand outside and collect the money every day. Told auditors this money went to the district. District had no record of receiving any of it. Floyd is a real life Clay Davis.

Floyd, his sons, and Mike Knoll, were all wannabe gangsters who came up with a crooked mortgage scheme to rip off a couple guys from Town & Country. Knoll, a career criminal who used his nefarious earnings to bankroll Irons AAU program and multiple other scams, was also a longtime fed snitch along with Irons. They would rat on criminals so they could expand their own criminal enterprises. Floyd tried to snitch on his partners, lucky the judge didn't buy it. Still the FBI helped cut Irons possible prison time by more than half. Nothings changed since then. The Irons family is still involved in gangs and criminal enterprises while snitching to Feds and local cops.

These are the guys shaping young men in St. Louis.

This is what happens when you let criminals run anything.

If he is choosing Charleston, I have to think we could have brought him here.  Charleston is probably going to be paying him a lot less than we are going to pay Schertz.

SLU supposedly hired a search firm to do the initial list building and to make the first feelers to the names.  They may have asked Mack and he said that he was not interested since he thought he could get a P5.  When that didn't happen for whatever the reason he then was open to non P5 job but with our MoU we had moved on.  C of C was the chair he ended up on when the music stopped.

Having coffee on the back deck with siblings and the outlaws yesterday, my BIL says- “so I hear Ahearn is happening for SLU?!” 😕 this BIL is fairly in the know with things - however not a billboard member and not a major SLU fan as myself- he did kick my arse in the bracket this year for what it’s worth.

i just said- that is false- not happening- people who have some connection to him and losing their mojo trying to stay relevant- it’s Schertz ( whom he was very excited about) happy Easter.

I mean can we announce schertz soon or what?

Not until the season is over apparently

Since Schertz has been tight lipped about his move to SLU, it is safe to assume he has had NO conversations about it with his players. One or more players may have expressed interest to him, based on the rumored move, but that would be the most that would have transpired. Schertz knows who he would like to have and what it will likely cost. SLU no doubt agreed to an NIL  commitment that he can win with.

I'm not sure how much if any transfer dialog with a player prior to their entering portal is acceptable? Alsi, a discussion like that with a player would quickly go viral. I think Schertz is being careful and will move quickly, once things are public.

Schertz being tight lipped in no way proves he hasn't talked with his players about this or at least implied it.
