But I'm pretty sure it is the only one that provides the real revenue for all the other sports to exist. If Ford does eke this one out now and SLU has another year where they are once again watching the NCAA Tourney then both should get Fired. May's 2 hoops hires have done nothing to improve SLU hoops and he will need to go too! -

I agree with you SLUDREW. I have no idea what the season tickets would cost that I had when I lived in St. Louis...they were in the same section as Fr. Biondi. I enjoyed going to the games back then because the team was very competitive. When you can't even beat SIUE at home their being competitive comes into a huge? mark. You're right the casual fan who SLU needs to try and fill Chaifetz won't support a team that is not competitive. I applaud the booster(s) as we don't know how many want Ford gone. I hope they get the job done. Suppose OSU was lucky that back in the day they gave Ford the heave ho T. Boone was alive and since he had more money than God getting rid of Ford was zero problem. People keep mentioning May...well he's the Turkey who hired Ford, and before that gave the HC job to Jim Crews after Majerus' untimely death so forgive if I'm totally unimpressed with his ability to make the correct HC decisions for SLU mens hoops! -
I guess if you look at this past season so far...so good for the Tigers.

I find the ignore option to work as the troll button for me! -
Just saw on ESPN that the FDU HC and Iona agreed on a 5 year deal.

O.T. The ever shrinking mid majors bids

Problem with this notion is the P-5 schools are not only football schools but many have excellent basketball teams, baseball teams, etc. I do think the NCAA is pretty neat when you see a FDU(16) beat Purdue(1). I know it's only happened twice, but found myself rooting for FDU. Actually remember at some time in history SLU played them in hoops and I believe it might have been in the old Kiel Auditorium days. Also I'm positive many on here got a huge kick out of Princeton beating Mizzou. -

Bay Area, I was unable to attend that game in person but watched it and thought that Bills team was going to pull off the upset that day. I was super proud of their effort in that game. Green was a difference maker for Sparty. My very best friend when I lived in St. Louis was at the game and partied with the SLU contingent (guess they had a tent or something like that after that game. His daughter was a MSU Alum. Sure wish we had Rick at a much earlier time of his life. He was a terrific HC and was glad SLU had him for the time we did! Flew back home to watch the Bills play at Chaifetz while he was HC. -

We agree...only caveat SLU must get better first. Last time they expanded they took Butler and Creighton. Butler was the one that sure surprised me, but they were arguably a bit better. Like I said before Rick Majerus death was very untimely for SLU. Had he lived long enough I'm pretty sure the Bills would be in the Big East now. -

Hmm...Can you tell me who the current UT 5 Star Vols are averaging 5 minutes and less than 2 points a game. Their current roster has two 5 stars Julian Philips and Josiah James Jordan and both average more than 5 points per game. Julian is a Frosh and Jordan is a Sr. who has had some injury time out of the lineup. Also who are the 4 Star walk ons. They have 2 Frosh 4 Stars and neither get much playing time seeing as the roster has players who have been with the team 2 or more years. -
Wonder what the Zags pay Mark Few...being a Jesuit U it would be a guess, but surely he'd make this list.
-
All they need to do is have people running the financial part of the program with a vision of what is possible...not sure they have that now as living in Florida this SLU Grad is not familiar who the movers and shakers money people are at SLU. My non-knowledge of them leads me to believe at least many of them don't give a hoot or have a vision for what their top revenue sport could be. Yes, in Chaifetz they have the mortar commitment, but how about the ability to hire the correct people to run the whole show and in the instance of mens basketball IMHO that person is not on board now as HC. Certainly, hope the rumor from yesterday holds true as SLU hoops need a new leader! Noticed you mentioned Decades when referencing Gonzaga. Well Mark Few has been their for 24 years and has Never missed a NCAA Tourney. I know they had HC's before him as I was their in Seattle for the one right before Mark who left after them for a Big Ten job. IMHO while Mark's accomplishments were a build on to HC's before him, he has far exceeded his predecessors. His resume is building him for the Hall of Fame once he's finished coaching the Zags. Since he's been close I personally hope he does not leave their without a National Championship team. They are a fun team to watch! That game last night was another great game.

Willie...Thanks for correcting me on Barry's last name. I picked 3 players from the 60's. I actually worked at the old Kiel Auditorium back in the 60's and got to see SLU before I went their fort my Under Grad Degree. Followed the Billikens and saw them play at Kiel in the late 50's. Saw the original Leuchtefeld (SP?) Glad to know there is someone else who goes back to the old days too! -
We agree on your final statement about SLU being in the Big East as they had two Jesuit U's that made it the 2023 NCAA Tourney in Marquette and Xavier. Then their is the other Jesuit U Gonzaga who has been in their own world as far as NCAA Tourney Appearances...24 straight for HC Mark Few. Do the Gonzaga fans complain about the current pecking order for choosing Schools for the NCAA. Only way would be in their seeding if even that. IMHO SLU would have made the Big East expansion if and only if Rick Majerus had still been HC when it happened. Unfortunate but for us SLU fans that was how the cookie crumbled in more ways than one. A lot of things went downhill with his passing.

Well I can think of 3 games beside the terrible home loss to SIUE where they blew a huge 2nd half lead. SLU got clobbered by Iona, Maryland, and lost to Auburn on the road in a game that they probably should have won. Now I don't know about you but those games that could have helped SLU's NCAA Tourney resume didn't cut the mustard as far as NCAA honks deciding who should get into the Tourney. SLU simply did not deserve to be in no matter how anyone wants to whine about the selection process!

Exactly, some on here I'd guess haven't been around for as long as others. Sone probably did not attend SLU as many have on here. Yes, I actually attended many games when Ron Ekker was HC in the late 70's and early 80's...very bad teams with one of the all time great players in David Burns who played for them. Wonder how many on here saw as I did Eugene Moore, Barry Arms, and John Kilo play at SLU. The point being there have been good and bad players and HC's in SLU's basketball history. When expectations are high like they have been during Ford's tenure I disregard some of the people on here who get on those that want Ford gone. He's had enough time to prove his worth so count me as someone who hopes the information provided by another person turns out to be 100% correct! -

Well my favorite winning Jesuit U Gonzaga just keeps their Sweet 16 record in tact with an exciting win late last night. As a SLU hoops fan I only dream that my alma mater could somehow reach their status in the college basketball world.
-
Two more Jesuit U's in the Sweet 16 Xavier and Creighton, and I'll be surprised if my fave Gonzaga does not make it 3 before the end of tonight. Come on Billiken fans it can be done with the right players and HC.
-
Don't know if OU is already to say goodbye to Porter. Let's make sure the rumor on Ford holds true then the speculation can begin on the new HC.
-
Sure hope this is true!!! Maybe the Big Boosters were tired of turning on their TV this week and seeing all the Jesuit U's in the NCAA Big Dance once again this year. Heck Xavier just advanced in today's first game. It's time to say goodbye to Travis Ford...Please!!!

Understand he was Asst at Texaas when Rick Barnes was HC. Rick and Rodney embraced after Vols beat them earlier this year.
