  1. I don't think he's flying under the radar anymore. http://wbby.com/cgi/scoopdisp.cgi?scoop_id=196
  2. Of his high school season. http://www.ashwaubenon.k12.wi.us/hs/Athlet...ball/index.html
  3. Thanks for the scoop. I've read some good things about this youngsters but I haven't see him play. One of those players whose "stock has been on the rise" the past couple of months. Offering a 6'8 player, even if he is perimeter-oriented, makes more sense than offering another guard.

  5. The Midwest Storm 16s almost won their 3rd tournament of the summer but the Spiece Central Stars were just too long and too quick. Spiece had already beaten the Storm by about 25 in pool play so the final outcome wasn't that surprising. The Storm are a joy to watch. They share the basketball, screen, move and most importantly, hit open jumpers just like Brad preaches. Josh Edmonds (6-4 G, Peoria Notre Dame), Tommy Brock (6-1 PG Mount Vernon, MO) and Rob Rudy were making slow-to-rotate defenders pay all tourney long. Jeremy Felton played with an intensity and a purpose that was sometimes lacking during the high school season. Lucas O'Rear was pulling double duty with the 17s so he played limited minutes, but posted up strong and threw his weight around when he was out there. I only watched Gateway once, against Northwest Ohio I believe, but 5-7 Chris Stokes was clearly the best player on the floor. The little dude was going over, around and through defenders and his handle was just sick. Stockes scored about 25 points, missed about 3 shots all game, he dished and he picked pockets. Very impressive. The Eagles were without Rolandis Woodland and 6-11 Mike Tisdale but made a strong showing before bowing out to the Midwest Storm in the Sweet 16. Marvin McNutt (6-3 SF Hazelwood Central) was their most impressive player. His decision making needs work but he broke down defenders repeatedly off the dribble, scored a lot off that little pull-up 10 footer and even banged down some threes. Mcnutt showed some crazy hops and he played hard all the time. I've got to check out of hotel now so I'll post more details about the Midwest Storm players tomorrow.
  6. Kinda hard for me to see Gameface when they're not on the schedule. http://www.hoosiershootout.com/17pools.html
  7. An impending offer to Bobby Hill really surprises me. If Brad offers and if he accepts, that would give us 7 guards in 2006. Brad has shown year after year that he only plays 5 guards. I'm headed to the Hoosier Shootout in Indianapolis tomorrow to check out the likes of Rolandis Woodland, Rob Rudy and Zach Plackmeier. Hopefully I can get to a pc and post while I'm there.
  8. >Furthermore Hill is not a better athlete than Smith, and I >don't care what planet you are on. Mike Smith is a much >better athlete than Hill and he shoots a whole lot better >than Hill. This is an interesting observation. Mike Smith seems pretty athletic to me as well - somewhere between Luke Meyer and Danny Brown. Vashon actually runs back door plays so that Hill can get a running start at the hoop and throw it down. That makes a player look more athletic than he really is. If he was really as athletic as he's touted to be, it would manifest in ways other than the carefully orchestrated alley-oop jams. I don't think its so much that Smith shoots a lot better than Hill, I think it's that he actually has a solid mid-range game, while Hill does not. At this point, if you take away the alley-oops and fast break buckets, Bobby has a lot of trouble scoring.
  9. >In my opinion here is what the SLU recruiting board should >look like and these are the guys they should be going after >big time: > >2006 >Dustin Maguire >Mike Smith >Casey Crawford >Karolis Petrukonis > >2007 >George Goode II >Leon Powell >Chris Stokes >Matt Dorlack >Evan Schmidt > >2008 >Travis Relaford >John Brandenburg >Alex Vouyoukas >Courtney Belcher Nice list but I've only seen the local guys. I seriously doubt we're going after any more wing forwards in this class but I like Mike Smith's strength and versatility. He's going to make some mid-major very happy. SLU has offered Casey Crawford. From what I've read he's got Chris Kellerman's perimeter game but is willing to mix it up inside. If Goode gets his academics together, he's going higher than the A-10. SLU's interest in Powell has already been well documented. Stokes is an even smaller Polk. Again, he will make some mid-major very happy. 2008 is too far away for me to get excited about.
  10. Roy, Floyd doesn't have to recruit - there are kids beating down Vashon's door trying to play for Floyd. This is a fairly new phenomenon actually. Back in the day before most of the city talent got drained by busing, Floyd won with all neighborhood kids.
  11. So why didn't he go to Gonzaga or Xavier?
  12. "Why isnt Barnett as good as Lisch? He's 6'5, shoots lights out from 3pt line. Good foul shooter. 38 inch vertical leap." Holy cow, sounds like a top 25 recruit! Never mind SLU, KU and Illinois should have been all over this kid!
  13. For recruiting purposes, Brad needs to finish above .500. If we're to land highly recruited frontcourt players, we have to show them SLU is a program on the rise. Back to back losing seasons would tell them just the opposite.
  14. Nah. UC, Creighton and Illinois would be favored to win those matchups.
  15. http://www.basketballboards.net/forum/show...ad.php?t=178294 HOME UC Florida A&M Southern Troy E. Illinois Coppin St. AWAY Miami U. (I believe this is the one in Ohio) Creighton NEUTRAL Purdue - Wooden Tradition Illinois - United Center Xavier will likely be favored in seven of the 10 games. I hope we schedule similarly to give our kids a fair chance of being successful.
  16. I'd rather Leon Powell remain a secret myself. I know, I know, I'm being selfish.
  17. Surely the Tar Heels wouldn't schedule both of us in the same year? http://www.salukitalk.net/st/viewtopic.php...der=asc&start=0
  18. "Tommie is skilled enough to play an uptempo game or a half-court game. Anyone who has seen him play already knows this to be true." Strongly agree. I don't have any doubt that Tommie, Dwayne and Kevin could run a lot of teams into the ground. I just don't think we have the rebounding in the frontcourt to allow them to do so. So we're back to having to make open 17-20 ft jumpers once the guards beat their man off the dribble and kick it out, which makes me nervous. I'd prefer that Tommie take it all the way to the basket and either finish or draw the foul if he gets a step on his defender. But it's a lot harder to finish against 6'9 240 lb men than it is 18 year old boys. Being 6'6 will definitely help his cause.
  19. "This conference is not that much better than the MAC or the MVC in my opinion." There aren't any Curtis Withers, Bryant Dunstons or Rashaun Freemans in the MAC. There are good guards in all the mid-major conferences. What makes the A-10 a cut above in most years is the presence of 6'8/6'9 athletic power players.
  20. About the same as Reggie Bryant's pre-injury.
  21. I look at our roster and I don't see one player as a likely candidate for the 1st or 2nd all-conference teams. Yet you've got teams like Fordham who are not only bringing back a player who was all-conference as a freshman (14.9 ppg 8.6 rpg), but another kid in the same class who averaged 13.5 ppg. Fordham was 8-8 last year. UMass has a returning all-conference player (15.4 ppg 7.8 rp) and a strong recruiting class. They were 9-7. We won 9 games all of last year and we lost our two leading scorers. Expecting an NIT bid is just setting oneself up for disappointment. I think we will be better, but not 8 games better. I think some of us are underestimating the level of talent in the A-10, top to bottom. This isn't the MAC.
  22. Well neither he nor Nate Minnoy, the top players in Class A, were on the final roster. Looks like they took a pass. http://www.ibca-il.org/all-stars.html
  23. "The only way Ian leads us in rebounding is if the ball always bounces right to him" Then the ball must have bounced to Ian the last 18 games of the season because he was our leading rebounder during that stretch ;-)
  24. "But he can hit 15 ft jumpers consistently" I hope so.
  25. Nobody is going to double team Liddell until he proves he can consistently hit jumpers outside of 15 feet. Opposing teams will just pack the lane, same as they did last year.
