  1. i think this is a good point. i am doubting Schertz's walk on plan. seems like a loophole that programs could take advantage of to hide players. and still stay under the limit and still have a number of walkons.
  2. what was the 3 point statistics for andrew young? (%, attempts makes)
  3. WV that is an incredible uncovering by you. i will definitely temper my enthusiasm on this one. thanks for your work!
  4. as i have always contended, playing time and starting vs not is always a factor. those buying into the rickma statement, "starting is for high school" which playing time is the same thing imo, have never played serious organized sports at any level below professional. it matters to kids. personally i dont hold that against any kid. they all dream of big ending to their sporting career. and if they cant get past that and accept reality, wish them well and let them move on without holding it against them we are better off not having that affect the whole team.
  5. P'Jay seems to me to be too good to be true. What the hell is he doing at Furman? are there issues we dont know about? as to lower divisions play not being counted against eligibility. is the ncaa going completely off the deep end? are we going to have 26 year olds being treated like freshmen soon? this is not longer college is it? i am already in shock about juco not counting towards D1 eligibility. this already smells like minor leagues vs major leagues. again this is no longer college is it?
  6. big bill fan if you expected knowing slu's history of mediocre resources and support that there would be an immediate trip to the final four just by firing ford and hiring schertz, i believe you to be naive. was it possible? absolutely. but that would have required an immediate awakening by the powers to be at Saint Louis University. knowing their track record of just keeping us lemmings at bay with what they know is the very minimum they need to do to renew the blind faith, while they horde the assets in this never to be used endowment. we got what we deserved. yes i too remain a diehard billiken. but i am coming to realize we are doomed. headed to D2 or D3 pergatory and the real kick is we will all accept it. i hope i am wrong and next season we are in the sweet 16. you know, "wait till next year". sound familiar? let's go buy a new billiken pullover.
  7. if may was guilty of "gross negligence", why would any competent president and BoT(Chris May's direct supervisors) allow him to continue his employment for almost a decade? if your analysis is correct, seems to me the "supervisors are the ones that committed "gross negligence".
  8. i obviously skipped over it. but i still dont understand what you are trying to say about ford? i only bring ford up when others do at this point. i am glad he is gone as his skills are no longer effective to any degree in this current professional college basketball atmosphere. i explained our shortcomings. we didnt get the needed components to correctly fill the roster last year due to the late start with schertz getting hired so late and i disagree about the effect of the injuries. it left the team short handed in key postions like point guard and power forward. thus the turnovers and lack of rebounding. the really only effective rebounder we had most of the season was anya and because of his offensive shortcomings he played less and less as the season went on. if those observations make me "deranged" in your mind so be it. i dont agree with your points in this thread much at all, but i did take the time to respond to you. obviously i shouldnt have since apparently i am deranged.
  9. if i am right, why would you punish the employee that was just following orders doing what was asked by his superiors?
  10. As I've pointed out many times, the fact nothing has changed tells me may is doing as he's being directed by his superiors. Thus my belief is any angst we as fans might have should be directed at the President and the BoT. Not Chris May.
  11. He had competitive talent BEFORE the courts forced unrestricted free agency and professionalism. After that he was no longer getting the talent level he got prior to that and with his. Being a horrible floor and practice coach the results nose dived. Look it up. From day one of Ford I was preaching he was a superior recruiter but a horrible floor coach. Once it became A dollars and sense thing and that level of talent was going elsewhere for more money, it was time to switch coaches. As has been stated Schertz got into the portal almost a month late last year and then the talent pool had as already been depleted. Imo he did remarkable considering such. Ironically the two players he really needed to come through big time were Avila and Swope. Swope was a wing guard asked to be the lead guard. Way too many turnovers. Avila had the ankle/leg injuries that he never physically got into shape thereafter. Plus with the limited scoring potential on the floor, he has too many turnovers as well Schertz's 5 out offense is extremely exciting and once we have the shooters I. The floor I envision a much more productive offense. Losing Thames was huge. He had shown before the mysterious medical condition surfaced his improvement was off the chart. The other injuries and defections were indeed huge as it did expose our end of the bench due to inexperience and just flat out lack of talent. He was asking his starters to play pretty much the whole game. He has always had a short bench, but not that short. At this point I haven't lost confidence in Schertz. What I greatly question is the budget he is given to buy the players with the skills needed to compete. There's where our impatience should be directed. It's a new game. One that require a lot of zeros.
  12. A-Bomb i am just saying in my opinion, we cannot survive in a no limit atmosphere. might as well get our D3 application started for Wash U's sports conference now.
  13. so your solution is to fire schertz and start over AGAIN? or what is your solution? and by reading your post, you were for continuing with ford?
  14. by setting a limit i would think they are trying to control the spending. if a school does have the means, i get it. but remember that will give them a huge advantage buying players. by setting a limit maybe it keeps it somewhat even in that aspect of "payroll" and the ability to raise funds.
  15. congrats Steve. of course steve can put up as many reactions as he wants. call me a sore loser.
  16. The fact he didn't start and played less minutes at McNeese, i would be surprised he would follow him. He seemed to me to be the guy that wanted to be the man. I.e. from my viewpoint I'm betting he was disappointed in his role this past season
  17. two games that went down to the wire. gotta love duke losing and anytime pearl loses i love it.
  18. I don't mind high scores. I also greatly admire defenses that rely on quickness, hustle and just doing things right. I don't want to watch rugby.
  19. Clayton had a marvelous game. Both teams were incredibly physical. I hate to see if that kind of "defense". First complete game I watched in the tournament. I'm reminded by the type of defense, why I am losing interest in basketball.
  20. I'm too lazy to look, but the majority of D1 is shuffling their roster now It's all new day in college basketball. I don't like it but it seems to be more the norm than bringing in freshmen and developing them for four years.
  21. I no longer have confidence in the prevailing status of college basketball to "develop" players. With free agency in full mode if you don't play them and they have talent it seems too many will move on. The opposite also appears to be true. You don't play them and they think they should have played more they will move on more times than not.
  22. Im not a fan of any grants at this point in time since we are currently $36,000,000,000,000 in debt. So no sympathy from me.
  23. think outside the box. these are desparate times. we either act in the very very near future or join washington U conference imo.
  24. i seriously doubt the university bucked up a cent. what money we paid out last year was whatever our whales ponied up which obviously wasnt enough. i would bet the university will continue to cry "we are in debt" while they have their multi billion dollar endowment that "cant be touched". (which is b.s. they can always cash investments in they will just have to pay penalties or substitute alternate collateral) when you are talking billions. a penalty will be paltry compared to the balance. remember, a billion is 1,000 million. keep it in perspective. the time is now. we either go big or we are doomed to mid level in the conference which will never get us a D1 invite when the inevitable split comes.
  25. well you never know when we are going to have 4-5 players get season ending injuries and/or players leave the program in the middle of the season. i would have never thought we would lose all of our middle of the roster players and be left with our starters and the bottom 4 players on the bench as we had happen this past year. we keep 2 or 3 of those out players it would have changed the whole season imo. so fill the roster with the best basketball players you can get. spend the money. dont leave money on he table imo.
