  1. so when your production drastically falls off the boss has to stick to his support statement from months ago? what if you had a teacher that went from award winning to slacking off, sleeping in class, unfairly disciplining kids, just not a good teacher anymore. you still going to stick by that award you gave them the year before? how do you know that this year there were not discussions between ford and may about the obvious fail in process? as to the deal, i agree thanks to our society becoming a world of litigation and loopholes, it isnt a deal until signed sealed delivered. that still doesnt mean that schertz didnt verbally agree. and if you read my above follow up post, it only goes to show that schertz is a man of character and a man of his word that he stuck by it even though over the course of the NIT his popularity exploded. only goes to show may did his homework and found the man that was best for the position. i just dont understand why you folks continue to play the "may is worthless card" when all signs point to the fact he did a very complete job on this whole process.
  2. 13, you are a good poster and i love reading your takes and comments. but i think you got this one wrong.
  3. the backdoor layup is the difference. uconn used the weave to start the play. ford did nothing but waste time with the weave. it's like he fell asleep in the weave class and missed the part about what can be done off the start of the weave.
  4. this is exciting, particularly Nitu from what i have read and watched utube videos. Utube video are always typically over the top but even then, if the video's are generally accurate of Nitu's game, he would seem to fit into Schertz style perfectly.
  5. finalize = signed. Schertz couldnt sign until his season was over. a handshake was done weeks ago likely. a real man, one that is honest with good character, shakes a hand on an agreement and his word is golden.
  6. exactly. while so many have written off Chris May, he didnt get to this position in his career to sit back and not prepare for the possiblities and inevitables. i see no reason he wouldnt have been developing alternatives and scenarios. i am also sure if he was smart he would be at minimum feeling out the whales for the program and getting input and feelings and continuing to develop those relationships. last, he likely had an implementation plan that he could more or less insert the winning name into the scenario. you are all foolish to believe he would not be ready to react to not only save his own job, but more importantly save the Billikens. right now it appears that is what i believe happened and i thank Chris May completely. We are lucky we have the boosters we have and the leadership and assertiveness that Chris May delivered.
  7. my son pointed out all these coaches are very good x's and o's guys. exactly the staff ford should have been bringing on his entire time at SLU as x's and o's were without a doubt ford's weakness. that said, it has been my business experience that most "managers" wont surround themselves with associates that will complete their "team" by strengthing their collective weaknesses. they are more apt to find a worker bee or a yes person. rather than "risk" bringing in the person that could take their job. ironically imo that person that can "take their job" is the guy that if successful doesnt put the manager out of work as often as push the manager up to a higher level because the team succeeds. a good manager is always looking to hire their replacement.
  8. so you must be on chris may's short list of close confidential friends to know that. i'm impressed. i consider myself a friend of chris may and he didnt tell me anything this specific.
  9. let's not forget the deal to become the billiken coach was likely struck weeks ago. he likely knew who would more than likely accept and he could trust their silence throughout the NIT. i.e. he didnt just approach and get a deal with those coaches yesterday.
  10. while thames is a fantastic athlete, the bad turnovers and fouls he had this past season tells me he isnt "point" anything material. he is a wing with good rebounding skills. just my opinion and i would love for him to prove me wrong.
  11. Just bodies pretty much leaving. Id fight for jimmerson the rest, meh.
  12. you never played competive sports did you? at that level you are competitor and hate to lose. your mantra changes. the polite good guy during the game is rare and it is a curse that follows you forever. in fact once your playing days are over, it translates to your fanship normally. it is like an incurable disease. but honestly I wouldnt have it any other way. losers lose and accept it. i detest it. you want to criticize me for it, again i ask, "you never played competitive sports did you?"
  13. i had a lot of conversations with Shimmy while she was the coach at slu. she was fun to talk to and she obviously loved basketball. watching her games though, it was obvious she was the women's version of ford, i.e. a recruiter but not a coach. the legends of her practice and lockerroom tirades are boderline scary and the fact she chased off a number of very good players that ended up transferring up was her end. an analyst position is probably the best place for her and i believe ford will end up the same.
  14. mediocre is kind. he was a horrible coach. no development, practice or game coach skills. recruiting was indeed his only redeeming factor. very very good before the ncaa changed all the rules. pay to play and unlimited immediate transferring changed the game of recruiting and he was out of his element and thus pretty much worthless. it was beyond time to go.
  15. Peel has some different pizza toppings. I will say their crust is probably the best tasting pizza crust I've ever had. We go fairly often to the peel in O'Fallon Illinois. If nothing else go for dessert some night and get a s'mores pizza. Awesome. Their self brewed beers are good. Nothing special though imo.
  16. the wife retracted everything. they had a disagreement and she overreacted. he was guilty of nothing.
  17. imo loe took three years to get there, but that senior year he was really good. vouyoukous also was a project but his last two years i thought he was good. okoro was a senior disappointment. i thought that junior year was good, he defintely went backwards that last year. ezewiro never getting into shape was a disappointment this year. my gosh if i was sitting to get eligible with his potenial and size, i would have been working out like crazy. what else did he have to do? to finally be able to play and it seemed he couldnt play 5 minutes without a break was so so disappointing. when he was fresh he was a player tho.
  18. if i can get beard, i would. imo he is one of, if not the best coach, in america.
  19. nearly a 100 miles is not a home game. second, "jack a 3?" the timeout is likely called to calm his team. get them in the right frame of mind and put everyone in the right place for reactions. the play was likely always give the ball to a certain player that is best at creating his own opportunity. third, the team lived and died on the thinking "we shoot threes or we get layups". you can bet a layup in that scenario was unlikely to be allowed by seton hall. remember there was a noticeable difference in size between the two teams. seton hall was going to push and block the drive. so if you are a great 3 point shooting team with only seconds to play, take what they give you. besides, he got fouled on the shot and the zebras as expected for a team not a power conference team got screwed. it's ok joey that you dont know anything about basketball. i just appreciate so much you are a fan. not a billiken fan, as you have shown the last few days you are already a schertz hater. but if hating the billikens is going to be your M.O. for the forseeable future, i guess we just have to live with it. keep up the great comments that gives us all an opportunity to comment. makes life fun.
  20. They were playing a big East team significantly bigger than they were. The fact they can back twice and it went to the last second is very good. Oh and the sycamore players got fouled twice on the last try and the typical in the tank zebras swallowed their whistles.
  21. for one going all in for blake ahearn. talk about stupid.
  22. not sure i understand the over the top love for harriman. yes he brought a couple of nice players to slu when rickma was the coach. after that he went to a couple of other schools and failed miserably. he came back here this year and i am sure expectations were such he would bring us top foreign players. how'd that work out? i talked to him in myrtle beach. he seems to be a very nice man. and my conversation didnt appear to be forced or patronizing on his part. but i just dont see the accomplishments that coach schertz would feel the need to have to have him on the staff. if he did want him, fine. other than tate, i really didnt have anyone i'd rather have. and even tate, if coach schertz didnt find him as a good fit to his picture for his staff so be it. move along.
  23. if rumors are true he is getting almost s $2m raise from his salary this year.
