  1. Ok, first of all, most D-I players shouldn't come on to message boards and take any of these posts seriously. Also, this post wasn't in Greek, so I'm not sure who did the official translating. Second, if he did read this and I guess he did, I'm glad I was able to light a fire under his belly. You're welcome. But a good player doesn't need to read message boards to be motivated to play well. Where was this the last two months of the season. Maybe he needed a dose of reality. Maybe all you pro-Voyukas fans will agree that he needed something to be fired up about. He played well against TCU, but his interior post presence needs to improve. I still am not sold with Voyukas, and to clarify that I come on to the board to "stir things up," maybe it's because I'm tired of being contempt with a bad team and poor recruiting choices. I'm not looking for the next Gerry MacNamara or Chris Thomas, but we don't have a program for Soderberg to sell the way Jay Wright has at Villanova or Mark Few has at Gonzaga ( programs I think we can parallel). These are teams that have overcome a run of mediocre years then get over the hump and have some success. This starts with recruiting. You get a gem to spark your program and good players will follow. People will come to the games, and people take notice. People take notice about SLU for students not coming to games and the Arena that will be breaking ground around the next Presidential election. I'm shocked that people don't try to stir things up more. I realize I was (in part) wrong about Voyukas, but as long as he's here at SLU, I probably need to be optimistic about his development.
  2. The jillikens lost 85-68. They SUCK!! I do not think Jill knows what she is doing. SHe should be gone after this year for such a bad season, but who knows. How can you fire her when the men are not doing much better but after 10 years it is time to go.
  3. 'Need two add'l. tickets for tonite's TCU game...call 314-965-5921
  4. hello everyone, i am new to the board i have been reading the board for 5 years now and i must say im disgusted about what i just read, which made me make my first post. bobby, i will take ur points one by one and hopefully by the end u will understand that u have made a mistake u said he was the worst player not only in greek land.... blah blah well, truthfully, r u on crack or something? does any one remember why he left the previous summer? obviously bobby, u dont, he was in the under-21 national team.ring any bell? Quite an achievment for the worst player in greece and america! and that comment about 5'11 guards passing him... have u realised he is a 6'10-11 sophmore center? my point is that why should he be guarding players a foot shorter than him... plz think before u write i know it must be hard for u to accept this, but bryce is a FRESHMAN... do i have to explain to u what the exact role of a 7'0 center freshman's job is? i dont think i have to. back to vouyukas, if u havnt been looking at statistics and not only listening to ur student manager friends, then u would see that he has been helping the bills a lot. also, ofcourse basketball is not just ur own statistics but ur opponents too... if u remember, or im certain that u will probably be reading this for the first time... iti, a player that withdrew his name from the draft at the last second was held to 2 points...hmmm i wonder who caused that and to even read that someone was even considering what bobby said disgusts me later
  5. There will be no arena. I've given up on this University to do anything other than raise tuition and tow my car 6 plus times in a semester. Those Parking and Card Services Nazis.
  6. Webster Met-a-phor; Noun, A figure of speech in which one object is likened to another by speaking of it as if it were that other, as in "Bryce Husak couldn't pick a lock." Also, a guy who's 800 feet tall like Husak should be able to at least get a hand on a shot from a 5'11 guy in the rec. I have a bum ankle right now, so when I'm all rested up, I'll call Ian in for some Grecian formula.
  7. Ditto on that, I worked with Krobbie over the summer as an intern with the Media Relations Dept., and he's the picture of dedication to this University. God Bless him.
  8. As much as I love Billiken Basketball, that is a pipe dream for us. I don't know why I even bothered reading that article. It will never happen at SLU. Mark my words. Never.
  9. Who from Peoria is making this claim? It's not anyone from the PJ Star, is it? God, the Dispatch is bad, but Stu would have a field day with D. Reynolds and the other goons they have up there.
  10. It's a reasonable assumption to make that Ian Voyukas, though "wonderful in practice," according to my student-manager friends, is the worst basketball player not only in Greek-land, but America. I mean, I could grab a guy at Simon Rec to beat him off the dribble and score on him. A guy who's 5'11 and only has three fingers on his shooting hand. Ian has no inside presence on O or D. Cincy's inside guys threw him around like a $10 *****. He can't get back on the breakaways because he has tree-trunk legs and not a spec of athletic ability. Sure, he can make a free throw or two, but Soderberg needs to realize that this foreign investment has cost us at both ends of the court. Now Ohanon is at least a "powerful," as mediocre C-USA PF's go, presence; he made some impressive moves against Cincy and UNCC. When I watch Husak play, it seems that he's going to cry everytime another player bumps into him. I've seen better screens at a window sale. Husak couldn't pick a lock. He might be 800 feet tall, but the last time I checked, George Murhesan isn't playing in the NBA and Manute Bol is dead. Soderberg needs to realize that we can't make it on height alone, but we need guys like Newbourne, guys who can bang it out for 36-40 minutes. Anyone but Voyukas, Dear God, anyone but Voyukas. "Ian, you're fired." -Donald Trump
  11. I wish Soderberg would tap that Peoria pipeline for even some mediocre DI players. It's always the Bruce Webers and Steve Alfords of the world who rape and pillage my hometown talent. For example, Mitch Gilfillan,a product of my alma mater, Peoria Notre Dame, who as a junior starts at PG for Lehigh of the PatLeague, is probably ten times quicker as a defender as Drejaj and doesn't take the shots that AD takes. He got a ride at Lehigh, but I wish our entire SLU coaching staff wouldn't recruit in just a 100 mile radius from St. Louis. Peoria, Quad Cities, maybe even Indy or Chicago don't even make it on the radar. We're a disgusting team right now, and since we're joining the A-10, we're going to be spending more $$ on travel and less on recruiting. From a logical standpoint, I'd rather play Bradley and Wichita State every year than host St. Bonnaventure, LaSalle and Fordham and draw 800 people at Savvis. Doug Woolard left our University in shambles and we should all go to South Florida and lynch him.
  12. Actually he had lost a lot of weight. I was able to see 2 games in Hattiesburg earler in the season and I did not recognize him at first. He looks like a basketball player now and not a football offensive lineman.
  13. There are two others that I know of but I like the EagleTalk board the best. Here is a link to the others: http://southgaeagle.younce.net/links.html
  14. Not only did Tom have to recover from his shoulder in the offseason, but he also suffered the first of those three concussions in july. His second concussion came in october/november. At that time, he was told that if he had one more concussion before the season was out he would be done for the season. The reason you didn't see the Tom from last year - this year was because he knew that one more shot to the head, and he was gone.
  15. The game will be on cable TV in the St. Louis area. I would be willing to pay $30.00 for the cost of the tape, postage, and time if someone could tape it for me. My collection is mostly Southern Miss based but I do have a few old St. Louis games to trade if that is prefered. If there are any St. Louis basketball collectors on this board I would be interested in seeing what you have.
  16. I think it is sad that you have made over 2400 posts. Skip, you need to calm down just a little bit. Aren't these talk forums made for fans to express their opinion? It is pretty obvious to me that Frericks was lazy in the off-season, which led to him being overweight to start the season, so I came to this forum and expressed my personal opinion, and agreed with another poster. Haven't you ever read a sports column in the post or any other paper? They criticize players all of the time, and that is simply what I am doing. Are you related to Frericks or something? I didn't think someone would get this upset over this.
  17. Lazy is indeed the word used to describe Frericks...Charlie is dead on about that. Hey Skip, college b-ball players are supposed to come into camp in game shape, and at playing weight. Frericks came in way over weight. Over weight players are clumsy...clumsiness turns into injuries, and those injuries turned into his season ending early. It is a shame, b/c it would have been nice to get another season of the way Tom played down the stretch last year. And, West Pine would be the last place I would look for Tom right now...he obviously didn't work out before the injury, so why would he now?
  18. Just quoting what brad said at the billiken tipoff club meeting at humphrey's right when the season started. I guess you missed that meeting,... or maybe I should have used quotes.... Brad ripped his injuries and laziness pretty bad....don't take it out on me please reply
  19. let's face it tom is lazy. even if they told him he could get another year, he probably wouldn't go after it. this is a guy that could have been a dominant force for us this year and he walks into his senior season overweight and out of shape.
  20. Anyone been keeping up on the 49ers this season? How do we stack up against them? I hope that little white kid who makes me feel ashamed of my own whiteness isn't on the team anymore. I f-ing hate that kid. I also have a great disdain for Bobby "Clutz" Lutz. I hope that this will continue to be a good rivalry for the Bills in the A-10, since we've lost our rivalries with Marquette and DePaul.
  21. I lived nextdoor to Frericks in Grand Forest and we're pretty close and he told me that he's probably going to Chicago to work in pharmecutical sales. I'm not sure just how committed he would be for another year, either. But that's just the way I see it.
  22. I think all you readers who think IV had a good game against Cincy are nuts. He did a few nice things, but he was way overmatched, was slow getting down the court, didn't defend all the time and was so timid he couldn't even leap. I can't believe you think we should give him time. He is a sophomore and is half way through this year. He ought to put his hands up and actually jump for a rebound. He needs to hustle.
  23. Slu should look into getting this kid, Lokk @ND they got Rick Cornette from I think Homewood Christian in Chicago had a great career but alos was great in AAU ball, he is doing alright @ND too
  24. Since the Jillikens are 1-14, will she be back or fired after this season shes been here 10 yrs right if I were the AD I would fire after this season
