SETTING THE SCENE

Saint Louis hosts St. Bonaventure for Senior Night on Wednesday, March 4. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

FOLLOWING THE ACTION

Wednesday's game will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest. Pat Parris and former Billiken Troy Robertson have the call. Robertson played for the Bills from 1996-2000, helping SLU to the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and 2000.

Tonight's game is the final locally produced broadcast of the season on Fox Sports Midwest. Including this Saturday's game at Richmond and the opening round of the A-10 Championships (both of which will appear on FSMW or FSMW+), a total of 17 Billiken games will have aired on Fox Sports Midwest in the St. Louis market.

The radio broadcast will air on 101 ESPN (101.1 FM). As always, Billiken Hall of Famer Bob Ramsey provides the play-by-play, while St. Louis American Sports Editor and all-around hoops expert Earl Austin Jr. handles the analysis.

SENIOR NIGHT

Saint Louis will recognize the two seniors on the Billikens’ roster – Grandy Glaze and John Manning – in a Senior Night ceremony following the game.

In addition, four senior student managers will be recognized: Mike Bequette, Joey Kouri, Matt Marske and Brad Pitlyk.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES

Saint Louis and Duke are the only teams in NCAA Division I that have freshmen leading the team in the following four statistical categories: Points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game and steals per game.

Milik Yarbrough leads the Billikens in scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.0 rpg). He is one of six freshmen nationally who leads his team in both scoring and rebounding average. Yarbrough is 15th in the A-10 in field-goal percentage (124-249, .498).
Davell Roby leads the Billikens in assists per game (1.9) and steals per game (0.9). He is second on the Billikens with 9.1 ppg in A-10 contests.

Marcus Bartley and Mike Crawford are first and third, respectively, in 3-point field-goal percentage in league games. Bartley connects on 49 percent (25-51), while Crawford is at 44.4 percent (16-36).

Ash Yacoubou is second on the team in scoring with 9.1 ppg. He is also second on the club in rebounding with 4.7 rpg. Yacoubou is tied for the team lead with 26 steals.

Billiken head coach Jim Crews is in his third season at the helm. The back-to-back A-10 Coach of the Year is 66-32 in three seasons at Saint Louis, 420-380 in 27 years overall.

Saint Louis has advanced to the NCAA Tournament the last three years, a school record. Additionally, the Billikens are one of 10 programs in the nation that have advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons.

Up next, the Billikens travel to Richmond (17-12, 10-6 A-10 entering Wednesday’s game at UMass) Saturday night at the Robins Center. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT).

RECAPPING THE GEORGE MASON GAME

Saint Louis dropped a 78-50 decision to George Mason Saturday night in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball matchup at Chaifetz Arena.

The 28-point loss was SLU’s largest margin of defeat at Chaifetz Arena.

Davell Roby and Reggie Agbeko tied for team-high honors with 10 points apiece. Agbeko established career highs in points and field goals (four, tied). Roby added a game-high three steals.

Milik Yarbrough chipped in eight points and Austin Gillmann had seven for the Billikens.

YARBROUGH LEADS TEAM IN SCORING / REBOUNDING

Freshman forward Milik Yarbrough is one of six freshmen nationally who leads his team in scoring and rebounding average. The others are:

Stanley Johnson, Arizona

Jahlil Okafor, Duke

Tanner Leissner, New Hampshire

Pascal Siakam, New Mexico State

D’Angelo Russell, Ohio State

In A-10 games only, Yarbrough averages 12.3 ppg, which 21st in the conference.

In all games, Yarbrough is 15th in the A-10 with a .498 (124-249) shooting mark from the field.

Yarbrough’s 11 field goals made at George Washington are tied for the second most by an A-10 player in league play this season.

Yarbrough was named A-10 Rookie of the Week Jan. 12 after averaging 22 ppg in road tilts vs. George Washington and Davidson.

YACOUBOU CONTRIBUTING IN FIRST YEAR WITH BILLIKENS

Junior guard Ash Yacoubou came off the bench for the first time as a Billiken in the URI game.

The Villanova transfer, whom SLU head coach Jim Crews lauded for his work ethic and attitude during his redshirt season a year ago, is second on the Billikens in scoring (9.1 ppg) and rebounding (4.7 rpg).

Yacoubou drained a career-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the win against Saint Joseph’s.

Yacoubou posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 boards against Duquesne. His other double-double came against Rockhurst on Dec. 2 - 11 points and 10 rebounds.

ROBY PLAYING MORE AGGRESSIVELY

In Atlantic 10 play, freshman guard Davell Roby is second on the Billikens in scoring with 9.1 ppg.

Roby’s career-high 16 points at Fordham led the squad. It was the first time he led the team in scoring this season. Roby matched that mark with 16 points in the win against La Salle.

During the nonconference season, Roby averaged just 1.7 “two-point shots” per game. That average is up to 4.0 per game in conference play.

REYNOLDS TO THE LINE

Miles Reynolds scored a career-high 21 points at Rhode Island on Feb. 14 thanks in part to a 13-of-15 performance from the FT line (and 4-of-5 from the field).

In Reynolds’ previous career high of 19 against North Carolina A&T, he went 14-of-18 from the charity stripe.

His 18 trips to the line in the North Carolina A&T game are still the most by an A-10 player this season.

Despite missing four games and averaging just 12.9 mpg, Reynolds is third on the Billikens with 85 trips to the line.

CRAWFORD IS EFFICIENT

Sophomore guard Mike Crawford leads all Billiken guards in shooting percentage (.485, 65-134).

Crawford was efficient in collecting a game-high 15 points against UMass, finishing 5-of-6 from the field, 2-of-2 from 3-point range and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.

Crawford is third in the A-10 in 3FG percentage in league games (.444, 16-36).

Crawford leads the team in FT% (51-62, .823). That mark would be good for second in the A-10, but he does not meet the minimum requirement to be ranked.

Crawford had a string of 21 consecutive free throws made before missing his first opportunity at Duquesne on Feb. 25.

BARTLEY ON POINT

Freshman point guard Marcus Bartley has started 13 games for the Billikens in the A-10 season.

Against VCU at Chaifetz Arena, Bartley dished out a team-season-high seven assists.

Bartley, who has hit at least one 3-pointer in 13 of the last 15 games, leads the A-10 in 3FG percentage in league games (.490, 25-51). Including all games, he is third in the league (.441, 30-68).

MCBROOM GOES THE DYNAMITE

SLU’s leading returning scorer from a year ago (7.3 ppg), junior guard Austin McBroom is fourth on the Billikens with 7.0 ppg. He is fourth in the A-10 in 3-point field-goal percentage (.433, 39-90) in all games.

McBroom has hit big shots for the Billikens in his career.

Against VCU earlier this year at Chaifetz Arena, it was McBroom’s runner with less than a minute remaining that put the Billikens ahead by two.

McBroom, who scored a career-high 26 points against Bradley, hit the game-winning 3-pointer against the Braves with seven seconds remaining.

It was McBroom’s 3-pointer with less than three minutes remaining against North Carolina A&T that completed a comeback and put the Billikens ahead for good.

Against Southern Illinois in the season opener, McBroom posted 24 points thanks in part to five treys. His biggest shot of the night came with 10 seconds remaining when he buried the go-ahead three.

Last season, McBroom hit a big shot late in a game at Duquesne. With the Billikens trailing by one with less than a minute left, he buried a three from the right side to give SLU the lead for good.

BLOCK PARTY

Senior center John Manning leads the Billikens with 23 blocks.

Manning tied his career high with four blocks in the first game against Rhode Island.

Manning has 71 blocks for his career. He needs five more to crack the Billikens’ top 10 all-time.

CREWS IN THIRD YEAR

Back-to-back A-10 Coach of the Year Jim Crews is in his third season as the Billikens’ head coach.

He is 66-32 in three years at Saint Louis, 420-380 in 27 years overall.

Crews was tabbed the 2012-13 UPS NABC Division I Coach of the Year, Sporting News’ National Coach of the Year and the A-10 Coach of the Year. He was a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year award.

He has been a part of 16 NCAA Tournaments as a player, assistant coach and head coach. Crews played on Indiana’s 1976 national championship team and also won a title as an assistant coach in 1981.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE

St. Bonaventure University (St. Bonaventure, N.Y.) is 15-12 overall and 8-8 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Marcus Posley leads the Bonnies and is among the top scorers in the A-10 with 16.7 ppg. He averages 15.9 ppg in A-10 play. Posley also leads St. Bonaventure with 34 steals. He hit back-to-back buzzer beaters in St. Bonaventure victories against VCU and Davidson earlier this season.

Dion Wright is second on the team with 13.1 ppg and 6.7 rpg. He has scored in double figures in 11 of the Bonnie’s last 12 games.

Youssou Ndoye averages a double-double with 12.0 ppg and 10.4 rpg. He is second in the A-10 with 67 blocks.

Jaylen Adams averages 10.0 ppg to give the Bonnies four players who average in double figures. Andell Cumberbatch is close to making it five, as he scores 9.9 ppg.

St. Bonaventure is 7-6 on the road this season (3-2 nonconference, 4-4 A-10). The seven road wins are tied for the most ever in the history of the program. The record was set by three teams: the 2008-09, 2001-02 and 1994-95 Bonnies clubs.

Head coach Mark Schmidt is in his eighth season at St. Bonaventure with a 121-122 record. He is 203-212 in 14 years overall. Schmidt led the Bonnies to the A-10 title in 2012.

Saint Louis leads 10-5 in an all-time series that dates to the 1950s. In A-10 play, which began for the Billikens in 2005-06, the series is knotted 5-5. SBU won the last outing 71-68 in the quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship in Brooklyn, N.Y.
